WBB recap: Ducks’ WNIT run ends in Seattle

Suspect second half shooting took Oregon down as the Ducks’ season ends in Seattle with a WNIT quarterfinal loss.

Of all places to see your season end, Seattle is one of the last places the Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team wanted to end the 2022-23 campaign.

Poor second-half shooting was Oregon’s ultimate downfall as the Ducks went down 63-59 to Washington in the WNIT quarterfinals. It was the first time the Huskies have defeated Oregon in four tries this season.

Washington will continue its season against Kansas in the semifinals while Oregon’s off-season officially begins.

The Ducks shot just 35 percent in the second half and the Huskies were able to erase an early double-digit deficit.

Te-Hina Paopao led Oregon with 14 points, but 11 of those points came in the first half. The Huskies’ defense concentrated on Paopao after halftime and the Duck point guard couldn’t get open.

Taya Hanson scored 12 points on four threes and Phillipina Kyei scored nine points and 11 rebounds.

Oregon WBB recap: Ducks take out their frustrations on the Trojans

Oregon got back to its winning ways with a 28-point victory over USC on New Year’s Day.

It’s not often the Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team has a three-game losing streak staring at them in the face. But after losing their past two contests, Oregon was in danger of just that.

The Ducks don’t have to worry about a losing streak any longer as they got defensive and disposed of USC. Oregon is now 11-3 overall and 2-1 in Pac-12 play. As for the Trojans, this was just their third defeat of the year as they fell to 11-3 and 1-2 in conference action.

Endyia Rogers led the Ducks with 19 points and Taya Hanson came off the bench for her best night as a Duck with 17 points. Phillipina Kyei cleaned up the glass with 20 rebounds.

The Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team has seen departures of many players last week. It’s nice to hear someone is now coming into the program instead of going.

Former Arizona State Sun Devil guard Taya Hanson will be transferring to Oregon, according to reports. As a graduate senior, she”ll have just one season of eligibility.

In this past season, she averaged 8.3 points and almost four rebounds a game. Hanson’s best season came in 2020-21 when she was an all-Pac-12 Honorable Mention as she led ASU in scoring (12.6 ppg), three-pointers (62), steals (1.4 spg) and free throw percentage (84.8), as well as third in rebounding (4.3 rpg) and fourth in assists (1.4 apg).

Oregon will need to fill a number of roster spots as four players have transferred and two more graduated. Look for Ducks coach Kelly Graves to aggressively go through the transfer portal to complement the roster already on campus and the incoming recruiting class.
