FWAA-NFF Super 16 Week 1 Poll: How I voted and why everyone else is wrong

Penn State cracks the top 10 in the latest Super 16 Poll from the FWAA and National Football Foundation

Penn State made some recent moves in the latest editions of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25, but neither of those polls saw the Nittany Lions wiggle their way into the top 10. That was not the case in this week’s Super 16 Poll from the Football Writers Association of America and National Football Foundation.

Penn State move into the top 10 in this week’s Super 16 poll as there was a little bit of a shakeup in the bottom half of the Super 16 this week following the results of Week 1. Below you will find the updated Super 16, which was released on Tuesday. I have also taken the liberty of sharing how I voted for each spot in the poll and why I did so.

Just as it did with the preseason ranking, we start with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

FWAA-NFF Super 16 Preseason Poll: How I voted and why everyone else is wrong

The Super 16 preseason poll is out, and the voters are waiting to be shown something by Penn State.

Following in the footsteps of the releases of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25, one more preseason college football ranking was released by the Football Writers Association of America and the National Football Foundation this week. The preseason FWAA-NFF poll ranks the top 16 teams in the world of college football, but Penn State is nowhere to be found in the preseason ranking heading into the 2021 season.

I am honored to be among those casting a ballot for the Super 16 poll again this season, as this 2021 season will be my third year participating in the weekly poll. And already I know I have some different reads on the upcoming season than many of my fellow voters.

Below you will see the full ranking of teams appearing in the Super 16 preseason poll as they appear from No. 1 to No. 16. I have mixed in how I voted in the poll at each spot as well, so you can gauge where I am on the mark, in sync with the national perceptions, and where I go against the grain.

Let’s start with the defending national champions to kick off the preseason poll.
