LSU gets revenge against Stony Brook to close weekend series on Sunday

With the win, LSU moves to 7-1 this season and will be off until facing Rice on Wednesday.

There was no shortage of runs from either side in this one. The most important thing, though, is that the Tigers came out on top with an 18-10 win over Stony Brook on Sunday. LSU dropped their first game of the season to the Seawolves on Friday as the Tigers could not manage many hits.

The offense woke up in this one as the Tigers scored 10 runs in the first two innings. In the bottom of the first, [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] had an RBI single, [autotag]Michael Braswell III[/autotag] had a three RBI triple, and [autotag]Ethan Frey[/autotag] had an RBI single to put the Tigers up 5-0.

In the bottom of the second inning, [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] had an RBI single, Frey had another RBI single, [autotag]Alex Milazzo[/autotag] had an RBI single, and White had a two-RBI single to give LSU a 10-0 lead.

Stony Brook finally got on the board with a two-run homer in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 10-2. LSU got those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Jones hit a two-run homer to extend the lead to 12-2.

The Tigers tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when White hit a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 13-2. In the top of the fifth inning, the Seawolves started making a comeback. Stony Brook scored six runs in the top of the inning to cut the lead to 13-8 as the Seawolves got in striking distance of LSU. Two of the runs were charged to [autotag]Javen Coleman[/autotag] and the other four runs were charged to [autotag]Micah Bucknam[/autotag].

In the bottom of the sixth inning, LSU got four of those runs back after [autotag]Hayden Travinski[/autotag] hit a three-RBI double and [autotag]Stephen Milam[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 17-8.

The Seawolves scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning against [autotag]Cam Johnson[/autotag] to cut the lead to 17-10. The Tigers got one of those runs back in the bottom of the eighth when Milam hit an RBI single up the middle to extend the lead to 18-10.

With the win, LSU moves to 7-1 this season and will be off until facing Rice on Wednesday.

Here’s everything you need to know as LSU completes its second weekend of the 2024 season on Sunday.

LSU baseball suffers first loss in 2024 against Stony Brook

[autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] got the start on the mound and was credited with his first loss of the season as Stony Brook beat LSU 5-2 Friday to end its perfect start to the season. Hurd was pulled from the game after giving up three runs over 4.1 innings on six hits, eight strikeouts, and four walks.

Stony Brook scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second inning before LSU came back in the bottom of the inning and scored two runs due to an error in center field to tie the game at 2-2.

In the top of the fourth inning, Stony Brook scored again when a runner was walked home with the bases loaded to give them a 3-2 lead. Pitchers from both teams settled in as no one was able to score any more runs until the top of the eighth inning when the Seawolves scored two runs on an RBI double down the left field line to increase their lead to 5-2.

LSU was unable to score any runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Tigers lost their first game of the season and dropped to 5-1 overall.

How to watch LSU baseball’s Friday showdown at The Box against Stony Brook

Thatcher Hurd will be back on the mound after some struggles in his season debut.

After beginning the weekend with a convincing 10-2 win over Northern Illinois on Thursday afternoon, the Tigers will be back at Alex Box Stadium on Friday night for their second game of the weekend as they host Stony Brook.

The Seawolves are 1-3 on the season and are facing a Friday doubleheader that begins with a morning game against Northwestern State. The Tigers, meanwhile, are 5-0 and look to remain perfect on the year.

[autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] will get the start on the mound after struggling in his season debut against VMI last Friday. He’ll hope for a stronger showing this time around.

Here’s everything you need to know as LSU looks to move to 6-0 to begin the season.

Jay Johnson announces pitching rotation for weekend series

Jay Johnson recently announced what the pitching staff would look like for the Tigers this weekend.

Week 2 of the college baseball season is on the horizon for [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] and the LSU Tigers. Johnson recently announced what the pitching staff would look like for the Tigers this weekend.

UCLA transfer [autotag]Gage Jump[/autotag] will get the start tonight as the Tigers take on the Northern Illinois Huskies. We got our first look at Jump when he entered to pitch in the first game of the season against VMI. He came in for the ninth inning and earned his first save. On Thursday night, he will get the opportunity to start and he will hopefully have a quality start.

Stony Brook rolls into town on Friday and we will be back to our regularly scheduled rotation as [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] will start the Friday night game and [autotag]Luke Holman[/autotag] will start against Northern Illinois on Saturday. The starter for Sunday is still to be determined at this time. This will be the second four-game stretch in a row for the Tigers as they look to start the season 8-0.

Former Penn State CB finds a landing spot out of the transfer portal

Former Penn State defensive back signs with a new college football team out of the transfer portal

Weeks after announcing he was entering the transfer portal, former Penn State cornerback [autotag]Jeffrey Davis[/autotag] has signed on with his new school. Davis has committed to Stony Brook, and the school officially announced his signing on Thursday afternoon.

“Let’s do this! Time to work,” Davis said in reply on his Twitter account after his signing was officially announced.

Davis will have three seasons of eligibility at his disposal with Stony Brook. The redshirt freshman appeared in just one game for Penn State in 2022. Davis was a three-star recruit in Penn State’s Class of 2021, and playing time in the defensive backfield was looking increasingly difficult to find with so many options in play for Penn State.

Penn State also just added a transfer defensive back from North Carolina with this week’s commitment from Storm Duck.

Davis announced he was entering the transfer portal on Dec. 5. He also announced he received an offer from Long Island University since entering the transfer portal. Stony Brook was quick to extend an offer after Davis entered the transfer portal. Albany also had an offer.

Stony Brook is coming off a 2-9 season and will be looking for its first winning season since 2018 when the 2023 season rolls around. Here’s hoping Davis will be a part of some winning moments for the Seawolves.

PHOTOS: Florida basketball’s season opening win over Stony Brook

Take a look at a few prime shots from Monday night’s action.

Florida basketball opened up the [autotag]Todd Golden[/autotag] era in Gainesville with a blowout win over the Stony Brook Seawolves, 81-45. In a game that was clearly a mismatch on paper, the Gators took advantage of their talent gradient and ran all over their America East Conference opponents.

Recent transfer [autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag] led the way on the scoreboard in his first game wearing the Orange and Blue, notching 16 points along with three rebounds. Another recent addition in [autotag]Will Richard[/autotag] added 14 points and three boards while veteran [autotag]Colin Castleton[/autotag] posted 13 points to round out the Gators in double digits.

Out of 15 players to earn minutes in this game, 13 managed to put points on the board, including [autotag]Alex Klatsky[/autotag] who drained his lone three-point attempt. Take a look below at some highlights from Monday night’s season-opening affair.

How to Watch: Florida basketball vs Stony Brook in season opener

With tipoff fast approaching, here’s what you need to know about Florida’s season opener.

The Florida Gators host the Stony Brook Seawolves in the O’Connell Center in Gainesville on Monday, Nov. 7, to open up the 2022-23 men’s basketball season, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The two schools have met just once prior to last December in Gainesville when the Gators routed the ‘Wolves, 87-62. Chances are, the home team will come away victorious from this one as well and give the Orange and Blue a strong start to a new era.

Take a look below at everything you need to know to follow the action, as well as our prediction and betting lines.

Florida vs Stony Brook: Betting odds for Gators’ season-opener

Take a look at the lines for Monday night’s men’s basketball season opener in the O’Connell Center.

Florida basketball is finally about to embark on its 2022-23 campaign with a tip-off against the Stony Brook Seawolves – the O’Connell Center’s first visitors of the season — Monday night starting at 8 p.m. EST. The game will be the first of what will hopefully be an exciting epoch under new head coach [autotag]Todd Golden[/autotag].

The 37-year-old skipper has a lot of ground to gain in getting the Gators’ program back to the level it was under the legendary [autotag]Billy Donovan[/autotag] — especially after a disappointing tenure by erstwhile coach [autotag]Mike White[/autotag]. Stony Brook could very well be the perfect opponent to open things up against, especially given the large spread the oddsmakers are offering.

Gators rise in NET rankings after win over Stony Brook

The Gators are moving up in the world after a convincing win over Stony Brook.

After a rough month of December, Florida managed to end non-conference play on a high note, winning back-to-back games with the most recent one coming over Stony Brook on Wednesday. The Gators beat the Seawolves 87-62 in what was a very convincing win and one of the team’s best offensive performances of the entire season.

UF had four players score in double figures, and while the defense wasn’t spectacular, it was enough to get the job done with the offense shooting red hot.

With that victory, Florida saw a decent rise in the latest update to the NET Rankings, moving up eight spots from No. 60 to No. 52. Though not an incredibly tough opponent, Stony Brook ranks in the top 200 and constitutes UF’s best win since it took down Ohio State in Fort Myers on Nov. 24.

Non-conference play took a frustrating turn for the Gators, who lost Quadrant 3 and Quadrant 4 games against Maryland and Texas Southern, respectively, after a 6-0 start. Now, the team enters SEC play at 9-3, but it is at least on a two-game winning streak.

The Gators open SEC play with what is currently a road Quadrant 2 game against Ole Miss before the team plays a tough stretch against three-straight Quadrant 1 opponents in Alabama, Auburn and LSU. All of Florida’s first five games are currently set to come against opponents in the first two quadrants.

UF looked dead in the water after losing to previously winless Texas Southern, but this team is still in decent position. Conference play will be do or die, but it at least has the chance to improve its resume significantly in the coming months.
