Soccer icon Neymar ‘starstruck’ after meeting Warriors’ Steph Curry

Neymar Santos admitted that after meeting one of his favorite NBA players, Stephen Curry, the soccer star was left shaking and ‘starstruck.’

There have been many things in the sports world that Brazilian soccer star Neymar Santos Jr. hasn’t already accomplished at 27 years old. He’s won league titles across Europe, named captain of Brazil’s national team and is one of the highest-paid players for France’s famed soccer club, Paris Saint-Germain.

Neymar has been in the global spotlight since he was 17 years old. However, when he linked up with a member of the Golden State Warriors, he was left “starstruck” and “shaking.”

In an interview with House of Highlights, Neymar spoke about Warriors’ two-time Most Valuable Player, Stephen Curry, as one of his favorite players in the NBA.

The Soccer star said meeting Curry was a unique moment for him because he was another star that left him “starstruck” and “shaking” after their introduction.

The Warriors’ All-Star guard took to Twitter to confirm the feeling was mutual.

The two sports stars have linked up in the past at each of their home arenas with Curry attending a game in Paris at Le Parc des Princes to watch Neymar.

Neymar has been in the building to watch Curry go to work in the past, where the two swapped jerseys after a Warriors’ game.

Similar to Neymar, the rest of the basketball world will have to wait to watch Curry perform as he’s still recovering from a broken hand injury he sustained back in late October.

Curry’s only played in four games this season and is progressing through his injury and scheduled to be evaluated in February. However, even on the bench, there’s no doubt how popular the Golden State guard really is.

Warriors pay Klay Thompson tribute prior to college jersey retirement

Steve Kerr, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Bob Myers all give Klay Thompson a special message before he gets his Washington State jersey retired.

With the Warriors currently sit with the worst record in the Western Conference in the 2019-20 season; it’s easy to forget, Golden State took over the NBA over the past five seasons. The Warriors won three-titles and made five straight trips to the NBA Finals, but a league-worst 9-34 record makes their run feel like ages ago.

However, the players that built Golden State’s run at a dynasty are getting recognition for their success in the past. Earlier in the season, Draymond Green got his jersey retired by his college alma mater, Michigan State.

Green isn’t the only member of Golden State’s championship run that will see his jersey pulled into the rafters at his college stomping ground. Washington State University will retire Klay Thompson’s No. 1 jersey when Oregon State rolls into Beasley Coliseum.

With the Warriors scheduled to play the Orlando Magic on Saturday during Thompson’s jersey retirement ceremony, many from the Golden State contingent won’t be able to make the trip to Pullman, outside of Stephen Curry.

Members of the Warriors found time to congratulate Thompson prior to the ceremony in a video tribute via social media.

Curry, along with teammates Green and Zaza Pachulia, all praised Thompson’s jersey retirement achievement. Thompson’s coach, Steve Kerr, and Warriors general manager Bob Myers were both involved in the former Cougar’s special message.

At Washington State, Thompson ranks third in all-time points scored (1,756) and scored the most points in a single season during his junior year (733). The Splash Brother was named First-Team All Pac-10 twice in his tenure in Pullman and became only the second Cougar to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft.

Thompson will join Steve Puidokas (No. 55) as the only two Washington State basketball players to get their jersey numbers retired by the university.

Steph Curry to attend Klay Thompson’s Washington State jersey ceremony

When Washington State hangs Klay Thompson’s jersey in the rafters, his fellow Splash Brother, Stephen Curry will be in the building.

While the Golden State Warriors 2019-20 NBA season has been filled with losses and injuries, there’s still been special moments that have popped up along the way.

Draymond Green’s No. 23 Michigan State jersey was retired by the university earlier in the season. However, he isn’t the only Warrior who will see his jersey get pulled into the rafters this year.

Washington State will retire Klay Thompson’s No. 1 when the Cougars host Oregon State on Saturday night. Thomspon ranks third all-time in points (1,756) for Washington State and was named to the Pac-10’s first-team twice during his time in Pullman, Washington.

During Thompson’s special night, fellow “Splash Brother” Stephen Curry will be in the building for the ceremony. Janie McCauley of The Associated Press confirmed Curry will attend the jersey retirement at Thompson’s alma mater.

The Warriors will play the Orlando Magic at Chase Center in San Francisco on Saturday night, limiting Thompson’s teammate’s ability to show up in support for the Cougar alum’s jersey retirement.

Outside of Curry will be Zaza Pachulia and Mike Dunleavy will make the journey from Golden State to the Pacific Northwest for Thompson, according to McCauley.

A silver lining to Thompson and Curry both dealing with injuries at the same time will open the door for the former two-time Most Valuable Player to be in attendance for the ceremony.

Even injured, Stephen Curry’s jersey is one of the most popular in NBA

In the latest merchandise update by the NBA, Stephen Curry’s no. 30 jersey ranks in the top-three in jersey sales.

When Stephen Curry injured his hand on a late October night against the Phoenix Suns, not only did the Golden State Warriors lose the figurehead to their season, the NBA lost one of their biggest stars.

Curry broke his hand against the Suns and has been out of every game except four this season. However, even injured, the Warriors’ two-time Most Valuable Player’s jersey still ranks as one of the most popular in the NBA.

The NBA announced the top-15 selling jerseys according to NBA.com from October through December 2019, and Curry’s Golden State No. 30 placed third on the list.

Curry only trailed behind Lebron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, with All-Star hopefuls Luka Doncic and James Harden behind him.

The Golden State Warriors ranked sixth in team merchandise sales despite having a record that sits at the bottom of the Western Conference.

Fans will have to be patient as Curry is still working his way back to the floor after suffering a broken hand. However, even on the bench, nothing is stopping his jersey from selling at a high level.

Eric Gordon joined some of NBA’s best shooters after 1,500th 3-pointer

Rockets guard Eric Gordon is one of 14 active players to have made at least 1,500 career 3-pointers.

Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon had surgery on an injured right knee near the beginning of the season, but recently he’s gotten back to his old form of being one of the Rockets’ most productive shooters.

During the Rockets’ loss Wednesday to the Portland Trail Blazers, Gordon shot 46.2% from the 3-point line and scored 20 points.

His solid performance also included him recording his 1,500th 3-pointer, an achievement that put him among some of the NBA’s best 3-point shooters. According to Justin Kubatko of Stat Muse, Gordon is the sixth-fastest player in league history to total 1,500 3-pointers.

Steph Curry is the fastest with 477 games, and the rest of the top five is Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, Paul George and James Harden.

With Gordon in his 12th season, he is one of 14 active players who have made at least 1,500 career 3-pointers. He ranks 13th among active players in made 3-pointers.

Gordon returned from rehabbing his knee injury Dec. 29, when the Rockets played the New Orleans Pelicans. According to The Athletic’s Alykhan Bijani, Gordon is scoring 17.3 points per game and shooting 39.1% on 3-pointers in the seven games he’s played since returning from injury.

As Gordon starts to return to his typical production, that should make for good fortune for the Rockets, a team that needs its shooters like Gordon to contribute.

Though Gordon has shot 33.6% from the 3-point line this season, he’s shot 37.2% for his career. The Rockets will play the Los Angeles Lakers in Houston on Saturday.

Jordan Poole celebrated his four-point play with a nod to Steph Curry

During the Warriors loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, Jordan Poole knocked down a 3-pointer and was fouled. After the shot, the rookie pulled out a celebration made famous by Stephen Curry.

Since being selected in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft, things haven’t gone quite as planned for Jordan Poole. The rookie has had an up and down year in his first season with the Golden State Warriors that recently sent him on a trip to Santa Cruz.

After a rough five-game stretch in December that saw Jordan Poole shooting 4-for-19 from the field and 3-for-14 from beyond the arc, the Warriors decided it was time to send Poole down to the G League to find his confidence.

Poole played three games with the Golden State’s G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, and played well. Poole averaged 26 points, six rebounds and 5.7 assists per game in his three-game G League stint. In the NBA, Poole is shooting 26.3 % from the field, in the G League, he shot 20 percentage points better at 46.3 %.

When D’Angelo Russell went down with an injury, Poole played well enough in Santa Cruz, the Warriors brought their 2019 first-round pick up to San Francisco.

Against the Memphis Grizzlies, Poole played 27 minutes for Golden State and scored 13 points, the 10th time this season the Michigan product scored in double digits.

Against Ja Morant and the Grizzlies, Poole knocked down four shots from long distance, with one of his attempts resulting in a four-point play. After hitting the three-pointer and getting fouled, the rookie broke out a familiar celebration.

Similar to his two-time Most Valuable Player teammate, Stephen Curry, Poole counted his fingers to four after the shot went down.

Over the past month, Curry has been able to be around the team as he progresses through his broken hand rehab, and it looks like some of his habits are already wearing off on the Warriors’ rookie.

All-Star Update: Warriors duo in top-10 of Western Conference voting

Regardless of record, the Warriors fanbase is still “dubbing the vote,” landing both Stephen Curry and D’Angelo Russell in the top-10 of Western Conference voting.

While the wins may not be rolling in at a rate Golden State Warriors fans are used to, “Dub Nation” is still showing up when it comes to All-Star voting. In the latest NBA All-Star voting update, the Warriors had two guards rank in the top-10 in Western Conference voting.

Both Stephen Curry and D’Angelo Russell were named in the top-10 in the second round of the Western Conference guard voting. Both guards were called to the top-10 when the first round was announced on January 2.

Curry, who’s only played four games all season ranked fourth behind Luka Doncic (Mavericks), James Harden (Rockets) and Damian Lillard (Trail Blazers) with 595, 913 votes. Curry’s broken hand will take him out of All-Star consideration. However, he is progressing through his injury, entering the shooting stages.

After Curry, the order proceeds with Russell Westbrook (Rockets), Alex Caruso (Lakers), Donovan Mitchell (Utah) and Devin Booker (Suns). Following Booker, is the Warriors’ second representative, Russell.

Russell ranks sixth in the standings with 365,730 fan votes. Memphis Grizzlies rookie, Ja Morant rounds out the top-10 in Western Conference voting.

Russell has played well when healthy but has dealt with injuries to start the 2020 new year. Prior to missing six straight games, Russell was playing at a level worthy of an All-Star nod. The 23-year-old scored 30 or more points in three of his last four games before the injury.

The Ohio State product returned from his shoulder when the Warriors went to Memphis for his first game in the new 2020 decade, just in time to receive more All-Star votes. NBA All-Star voting closes on January 20, with starters announced Thursday, January 23.

Steph Curry spends time with ‘We Believe’ Warriors legend at UCLA

Former Warriors, and “We Belive” era hero, Baron Davis was in attendance at UCLA for the Warriors recent practice, and Stephen Curry showed his respect for the retired guard.

There is no doubt that when Stephen Curry is around the Golden State Warriors, everything just feels better around the squad. Golden State plays with a higher level of energy and there’s an extra coach on the bench. As he’s taking steps towards returning from a broken hand injury he suffered in late October, the two-time Most Valuable Player has been able to be around the team on a more consistent basis.

Curry has been able to be at practice in San Francisco, with his most recent hurdle traveling on road trips with Golden State. However, Curry was able to leap that mark, and travel with the team on their recent two-game road trip starting in Los Angeles and ending in Memphis.

While the Warriors were in Los Angeles, they had a pregame shootaround in Pasadena at the UCLA basketball gym. UCLA alum and current Warriors center, Kevon Looney led the team into practice at his old stomping grounds, but he wasn’t the only former Bruin in attendance.

Former Golden State point guard, Baron Davis was at practice watching his former NBA team. After finishing up his shooting workout with Draymond Green, current Warriors’ guard, Curry said hello to the ‘We Beleive’ era legend.

After the practice, Davis took to Twitter to say Curry is one of his favorite all-time players.

Davis, who spent three seasons in Golden State from 2005-2008 retired in 2012. However, Davis hasn’t left the game completely, participating in the ‘Big 3’ League for “Three’s Company.” Davis was inducted to the UCLA Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.

Most notably, Davis led the Warriors to an improbable playoff upset in 2007 against the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks. The Warriors “We Believe” playoff run was punctuated with a vicious Dunk by Davis over Andrei Kirilenko and the Utah Jazz in the second round.

Outside of Curry, Green and a few journeyman NBA veterans, the Golden State current roster is extremely young, Having a 13-year NBA veteran around the team, even if it’s just for one practice could provide a boost to a team that’s currently riding a seven-game losing streak.

Steph Curry travels with Warriors on road for first time since injury

For the first time since breaking his hand back in late October, Stephen Curry traveled with the Warriors on a road trip.

With each tick that comes off the clock in 2020, there seems to be a new piece of news that rolls out regarding Golden State Warriors guard, Stephen Curry.

The two-time Most Valuable Player has missed 35-of-39 games this season with a broken hand, yet of late, it’s been more positive than negative surrounding his injury.

Early in January, Curry was spotted working out alongside NBA Hall of Famer and Golden State assistant coach Bruce Fraser. Since then, Curry has been shooting without a brace or any wrap on his hand.

Prior to working out with his surgically repaired non-shooting hand, Steve Kerr mentioned that Curry was able to travel with the team if he wants to go on the road with the Warriors.

Since injuring his hand against the Phoenix Suns in late October, Curry hasn’t been able to attend one road trip. In the meantime, the sharpshooter has served as the Warriors leading supporter off the home bench.

That all changed when Curry joined Golden State for a quick, two-game road trip with stops against the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies.

Before tipping off with the Clippers, the Warriors had a shootaround at the UCLA gym in Pasadena, and Curry popped up again, this time shooting next to Draymond Green.

Although it’s evident Curry is progressing through his hand rehabilitation, the Golden State Warriors haven’t waivered from their initial February 1 evaluation date for their All-Star shooter. With Golden State’s record sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference standings, there’s no reason to hurry the centerpiece of the franchise back before he’s 100 % healthy.

However, if Curry can bring that same type of energy on the road that he brings to the Chase Center arena in San Francisco, the Davidson product traveling with the team will be well worth it.

There is no doubt the Warriors play a better brand of basketball with their two-time MVP in attendance. When the team is currently riding a seven-game losing streak, they need any extra boost they can get.

Report: Steph Curry gifted Giannis Antetokounmpo a signed jersey

According to The Athletic, After the Milwaukee Bucks took down Golden State Warriors, Giannis Antetokounmpo received a signed Stephen Curry Warriors jersey from the two-time MVP himself.

The Golden State Warriors dropped their sixth straight in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, yet the score wasn’t the thing that made headlines after the final buzzer — the lead story surrounded Giannis Antetokounmpo’s debut in San Francisco’s new Chase Center.

Antetokounmpo dropped 30 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field while grabbing 12 rebounds. The understaffed Golden State squad battled against the Eastern Conference-leading Bucks, but the “Greek Freak” proved why he’s the NBA’s reigning Most Valuable Player

The Warriors’ two-time MVP, Stephen Curry didn’t suit up against the Bucks, as he’s still dealing with a hand injury, but sat along the Golden State bench with Antetokounmpo in town.

With Antetokounmpo in San Francisco and Curry on the bench, the pair MVPs shared a moment postgame.

Many have speculated on what the two All-Star were discussing along the sideline after the game. However, According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported that Curry and Antetokounmpo were talking about playing the video game, ‘PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.’

Curry and Antetokounmpo’s night didn’t stop on the sideline. In the visiting locker room after the game, Antetokounmpo reportedly had a gift from Curry. Steve Berman of The Athletic reported that Antetokounmpo had a signed No. 30 Curry Warriors’ jersey in his locker. According to Berman, there was a long note down the zero half of the number 30.

The jersey swap isn’t their first interaction, as the two MVPs have a history dating back to the 2018 All-Star game. Both Curry and Antetokounmpo served as captains in the NBA All-Star game in 2018 and 2019. In last year’s All-Star game, Antetokounmpo selected Curry with his first overall pick.

Antetokounmpo will have the chance to return the favor and gift Curry his No. 34 when the Warriors travel to Milwaukee on March 14. Perfect timing for Curry, who could be nearing his return to the court from injury around that time.
