Steelers vs Cardinals game status: James Conner and JuJu Smith-Schuster OUT

The Steelers will once again be without James Conner and JuJu Smith-Schuster.

If you have been paying attention, this should come as no surprise. According to the Pittsburgh Steelers, running back James Conner and wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster are both out for this week’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

This will be Smith-Schuster’s third straight game he will miss as he continues to deal with a knee injury. For Conner, this is his third in a row and fifth in six games as he works to come back from a shoulder injury.

No other players appeared on the game status report for the Steelers. Benny Snell Jr. will replace Conner in the lineup and James Washington hopes to continue his break out as the team’s top receiving option.

NFL experts hesitant to go all in on Steelers vs the Cardinals

NFL experts picking the Steelers to beat the Cardinals this week.

This week, the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-5) take on the Arizona Cardinals (3-8-1) in a full-blown playoff atmosphere. No, this game doesn’t carry the weight for the Cardinals it does for Pittsburgh but you can bet they would love to defend their home turf and do their part to wreck the Steelers season.

And it seems some of the NFL pundits feel like the Cardinals have the talent to do it. We once again looked to our friends over the NFL Pick Watch for all the expert picks in one spot.

As of Friday morning, 83 percent of the experts are going with the Steelers. Considering the disparity in records, you might have thought more experts would be leaning Pittsburgh. But the reality is when it comes to the Steelers, you can never assume anything.

The biggest challenge this will be whether or not they can score enough points on offense to win. Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray presents a unique athletic challenge for the Steelers’ defense and so the offense is going to have to pull its weight this week.

Steelers vs Cardinals: 3 reasons Pittsburgh won’t lose this week

The Cardinals defense has struggled all season and the Steelers offense should take advantage of that.

Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The playoffs don’t start for a month but for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the season has been single elimination for the last several weeks. Pittsburgh has taken the one game at a time mantra to heart and has kept their focus during this 6-1 run they are on. This week the Steelers get the Arizona Cardinals who were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs last week and sit at 3-8-1.

There was a time when playing a bad team on the road was scary because the Steelers didn’t hesitate to play down to their opponents. But this isn’t the case this season, especially on defense. Here are three reasons the Steelers will not lose to the Cardinals this week.

The Cardinals defense can’t stop anyone

Arizona is currently ranked No. 31 in points allowed (29.2) and No. 32 in yards allowed (426.3) per game. Pittsburgh hasn’t had a 300-yard passer yet this season but if there was ever a week to do it, this would be it. The Steelers offense will be a concern for the remainder of the season but this week Pittsburgh should feast on the Cardinals D.

Steelers vs. Cardinals: No James Conner this week

The Steelers will be without their top running back again this week.

[jwplayer 5M5lUNAW-ThvAeFxT]

Despite getting some practice reps in this week, Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner will miss another week with his ongoing shoulder injury. The Steelers take on the Arizona Cardinals this week on the road.

Conner told the press he won’t play on Sunday but the team’s official game status report will come out on Friday.

This season has been a wash for Conner after making the Pro Bowl last year. Conner only has 390 rushing yards for the season and this will be his fifth missed game of the year.

With Conner out again, it will be a heavy dose of Benny Snell Jr. and Jaylen Samuels powering the run game. The entire Steelers offense has struggled this season but with games against the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens coming up, it would be better to have a 100 percent Conner in those games.

Steelers vs Cardinals Wednesday practice report

Several Steelers missed practice on Wednesday.

It was time to get to work on Wednesday for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team practiced in preparation for their showdown with week with the 3-7-1 Arizona Cardinals. And it seems the Steelers could once again be shorthanded on offense.

Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster did not practice again on Wednesday as he continues to deal with a knee injury. The rumor mill on social media is even saying Smith-Schuster is still several weeks away. Smith-Schuster did do some straight line running today but nothing beyond that.

Running back James Conner did practice on a limited basis on Wednesday. But realistically, no one should expect Conner to play this week. With games against the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens left on the schedule, it would be better to hold Conner out and be sure he’s healthy for bigger games left on the schedule and potentially the playoffs.

Steelers vs Cardinals: 3 players who must step up this week

We want to see big games from these Steelers vs the Cardinals.

Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

It seems every week we are wondering which new face will step up for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is the nature of the game when you are dealing with injuries and this week will be no different. The Steelers continue to hold onto a playoff spot despite playing without any of their top skill players on offense. Which guys will step up this week against Arizona?

WR Tevin Jones

Jones has bided his time on the practice squad and is finally getting his shot. It is hard to have expectations too high but with Devlin Hodges getting his third start it’s great Jones is starting to come into his own. We have seen Hodges and James Washington find their chemistry and this week we are counting on more from Jones as well.

Which member of the Cardinals do you want on the Steelers?

If you could have any member of the Cardinals on Pittsburgh this week, who would it be?

This week, the 7-5 Pittsburgh Steelers take on the 3-7-1 Arizona Cardinals as they look to keep their playoff hopes alive. Every week we talk about which member of the opposing team you’d like to have on the Steelers. There’s no denying the talent on the Cardinals roster isn’t overwhelming but if you could have one guy for this week’s game, who would it be.

[polldaddy poll=10472410]

We included wide receiver Christian Kirk and linebacker Jordan Hicks on the list but realistically quarterback Kyler Murray is and should be the pick. He’s one of the most exciting young players in the league. Devlin Hodges is a great story but if we are just talking talent, Murray would be the man.

Cast your vote and let us know which Cardinal you would want to poach for the week and add to the Steelers.

Steelers vs Cardinals: Pittsburgh road favorites over Arizona

Pittsburgh is favored to beat Arizona on the road this week.

Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers found themselves in the awkward position of being home underdogs to the Cleveland Browns. After getting that win and moving to 7-5 on the season, the Steelers now find themselves 2.5-point road favorites over the Arizona Cardinals according to Bet MGM.

The Steelers lead the overall series 34-23-3. The last time the Steelers and Cardinals squared off, it was back in 2015 and Pittsburgh won 25-13. The most well-known matchup between these two teams was back in Super Bowl XLIII. The Steelers won 27-23 and contained two of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history, both by the Steelers.

This season the Cardinals are in a state of flux. They have a new head coach in Kliff Kingsbury and rookie quarterback Kyler Murray. The Cardinals have had their struggles and currently sit at 3-7-1 and last week were officially eliminated from playoff contention. Pittsburgh is 22-4 against rookie quarterbacks under head coach Mike Tomlin.
