T.J. Watt injury update

No injury exists to update for T.J. Watt, thankfully — he was among the players who earned a rest day on Tuesday but was back at practice on Wednesday. The heart always stops for a split second when names like Watt and Cameron Heyward show up.

Alex Highsmith injury update

While there was a glimmer of hope that Alex Highsmith (ankle) might be ready for the Thursday Night Football contest, he’s been ruled out. Highsmith sustained the injury in the Week 10 win over the Washington Commanders.

Cory Trice injury update

Cory Trice’s 21-day window to return from injured reserve started Nov. 15. He remains on injured reserve and must be activated to the active roster within the next two weeks or be sidelined for the season — but it won’t happen this week, as he’s been ruled out for tomorrow night’s contest. Trice hasn’t played since suffering a hamstring injury in the Week 3 L.A. Chargers contest.

Jaylen Warren injury update

After sitting out on Thursday, Warren (back) took limited reps in Friday’s practice. With Najee Harris and Cordarrelle Patterson back at it, there’s no reason to risk further injury to Warren, as they need him more down the stretch. He’s questionable to suit up versus the Ravens.

Justin Fields injury update

On Wednesday, Steelers backup quarterback Justin Fields (hamstring) was a full practice participant. Whether we’ll see him take any snaps this week is unclear, as Mike Tomlin was his usual vague self, saying on Tuesday, “I would always anticipate seeing that as long as [Fields and Wilson] are on our roster.”

Cordarrelle Patterson injury update

Before exiting early versus the Indianapolis Colts, Patterson ran well in Jaylen Warren’s place, averaging 7.17 yards per carry on six attempts for 43 yards. Patterson was also 2-for-2 on receptions for 19 yards.

Zach Frazier injury update

The bye week was also a much-needed break for Zach Frazier, who practiced fully on Wednesday. The rookie center was playing at a high level before sustaining an ankle injury in the Steelers’ Week 6 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Justin Fields injury update

Steelers backup quarterback Justin Fields (hamstring) is questionable heading into Steelers-Giants warmups. Once inactive are reported 1.5 hours pregame, we’ll know whether Fields will suit up as QB2 or ride the pine.

It’s unclear exactly when Fields’ injury occurred.

Roman Wilson injury update

Roman Wilson, who had already been ruled out for the Steelers-Giants matchup, was placed on injured reserve today. Wilson will miss at least the next four weeks. At the earliest, he would be eligible to return for the Week 12 showdown versus Jameis Winston’s Cleveland Browns.

Hampered by an ankle injury for most of training camp, Wilson has appeared in just one game this season and injured his hamstring in practice leading up to the New York Jets matchup. The rookie’s lone outing was Week 6 vs. the Raiders, in which he was not targeted once on five snaps.

Cordarrelle Patterson injury update

Cordarelle Patterson (ankle), listed as doubtful on the Steelers’ initial Saturday injury report, has been downgraded to out, per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. Patterson has been sidelined since Week 4.

Nick Herbig injury update

The Steelers’ second-year outside linebacker sustained a hamstring injury in the loss to the Dallas Cowboys back in Week 5 and hasn’t played since.

Herbig is out for tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup. Pittsburgh’s Week 9 bye will provide banged-up players an opportunity to get right before their brutal second leg of the 2024 season.

Donte Jackson injury update

Donte Jackson had three full practices this week, and should all go well during warmups, it is a go tonight. He exited early from the Jets game with a shoulder injury. As a whole, the Steelers’ secondary should be at full strength versus the Giants.

Jackson, who leads the team in interceptions with three, was a stellar signing by the Steelers this offseason

DesShon Elliott injury update

It’s a mystery when DeShon Elliott hurt his back, as Tomlin did not mention Elliott after a Jets victory in which he played 60 snaps or during his Giants preview press conference.

The Steelers inked the former Raven, Lion, Dolphin during free agency and he’s been a defensive asset ever since, logging an interception, three defended passes, forced fumble, fumble recovery and 51 tackles in seven starts.

The good news is Elliott improved from not practicing on Thursday to being limited on Friday and practicing in full capacity today. It appears he’ll be good to go for the Monday Night Football contest.

Roman Wilson injury update

Rookie Roman Wilson, selected in the third round of the NFL draft, is in Mike Tomlin’s dog house. Hampered by an ankle injury for the majority of training camp, Wilson’s appeared in just one game this season and injured his hamstring in practice leading up to the New York Jets matchup.

Tomlin sounded less than pleased about his first-year receiver in his presser this week, saying, “Roman needs to work for me to really consider him. His participation got compromised some last week and so really once it got compromised, I moved on.”

Wilson is out for the Steelers-Giants matchup. He’s played only five snaps with no targets this season.

Nick Herbig injury update

The Steelers’ second-year outside linebacker sustained a hamstring injury in the loss to the Dallas Cowboys back in Week 5 and hasn’t played since.

Herbig is out for the Monday night matchup. Pittsburgh’s Week 9 bye will provide banged-up players an opportunity to get right before their brutal second leg of the 2024 season.

Donte Jackson injury update

Another stupendous signing by the Steelers this offseason has been Donte Jackson. Jackson, who leads the team in interceptions (3), exited early from the Jets game with a shoulder injury.

Jackson’s third full practice is music to the Steelers’ secondary ears, as the unit will be at full strength versus the Giants.
