UCLA vs Stanford Game Preview

Why UCLA Will Win

It’s been a rough last few games against Arizona and Arizona State, but that was coming off a dominant 66-43 win over Stanford early last week.

The Bruins didn’t shoot all that well inside, couldn’t hit from outside, and they still won in a walk because the Cardinal couldn’t make a thing.

Everything has to be prefect from the field for Stanford. It’s just 2-6 when it shoots under 42% – it made just 37% from the field in the first game and was a disastrous 4-of-29 from three.

The Cardinal don’t do enough on the free throw line and turn it over way too much to not shoot well, but …

Why Stanford Will Win

If UCLA could lose to Arizona State, could it continue to have problems on the road?

It allowed a normally mediocre ASU offense to play relatively well, the Arizona game was an emotional fight, and now comes a third road game in a row.

On the flip side, Stanford has been home for three games since the loss to UCLA on January 29th.

The Bruin defense hasn’t been as good as it needs to be at dealing with the three. Turnovers haven’t been an issue, but the team isn’t rebounding quite as well as it should.

What’s Going To Happen

Stanford should be a bit peppier than UCLA at home, and it should be able to hold its own on the boards. Can it shoot well enough to pull this off?

Not in the second half.

UCLA won’t do anything amazing, but it’ll get past the tough grind of the last two games by busting out of an awful funk from three and doing a better job on the line.

UCLA vs Stanford Game Preview

Why Stanford Will Win

Okay, Stanford, now do that to the other team in Los Angeles.

The Cardinal pulled off a mini-shocker with a 64-61 win over USC on Thursday night. They shot well enough from the field, were good from three, and they clamped down when they absolutely had to.

They don’t have the offensive burst to keep up in a shootout, but UCLA will be without Johnny Juzang (COVID) and it’s about to play its third game in five games and its fourth in seven.

Stanford has to keep this simple. Control the possessions, continue to be good from the field, and own the rebounding margin. UCLA isn’t all that great on the boards, but …

NFL Mock Draft: First 1st round mock

Why UCLA Will Win

Stanford makes a TON of mistakes.

It kept the turnovers to a minimum with just six against USC to go almost with only 13 fouls. It was by far the team’s cleanest all-around game of the year, and it was a total aberration.

Stanford is usually good for at least 15-to-20 turnovers a game, and the normally has a massive fouling problem.

UCLA doesn’t have to overextend itself. It doesn’t normally turn the ball over for easy points, it should have enough scoring pop to be okay, and it shouldn’t have a problem hitting from three on the Cardinal D.

What’s Going To Happen

How tired is UCLA?

This is a different-style of team than USC, and it’s going to give Stanford a whole lot of problems with plenty of forced errors and a whole lot more scoring. As long as the legs and interest are both there, the Bruins won’t have a whole lot of problems.

They’re going to be too good from the outside.

It takes at least 80 points to beat UCLA, and Stanford won’t get there.

USC vs Stanford Game Preview

Why Stanford Will Win

Stanford has to clean up every possible opportunity.

The Cardinal have been awful from the field lately, they haven’t done enough from three – and despite the whopping 32 made free throws against Arizona State in the 79-76 win, they’re not all that great on the line.

Fortunately, USC is even worse at shooting free throws.

This isn’t the type of team that’s going to bomb away from the outside, but when it does, the Cardinal have to pounce. They should be able to negate USC’s strength on the defensive boards.

There’s a whole lot Stanford can’t do, but it’s amazing on the offensive glass. However, that’s because …

NFL Mock Draft: First 1st round mock

Why USC Will Win

Stanford can’t shoot.

It has the size inside to create easy opportunities, but it doesn’t move the ball around all that well, turns it over a ton, and it doesn’t have the consistency from three to make up for the other issues.

It has gone ice cold from the field over the last few games – it didn’t get to 40% against either Arizona or Arizona State – and it has only been 50% from the field once since mid-December.

Again, winning on the boards is a must for Stanford, but USC is third in the nation at defensive rebounds. If there are a ton of one-and-done possessions, this will get ugly fast.

What’s Going To Happen

After losing 75-69 to the Cardinal up in Palo Alto a few weeks ago, this will get ugly fast.

How did Stanford do it? Lots and lots and lots of USC fouls.

Stanford will try to force more hacking this time around, but it’s not going to work.

The USC defense is too good, it should at least hold serve when it comes to rebounding margin, and it shouldn’t take too much of a push to get up fast and put this away with a good run.

Stephen Curry was happy to see his godsister Cameron Brink and Stanford win national title

The Warriors star was thrilled to see Stanford win it all

For Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, yesterday’s national championship win for Stanford over upset-minded Arizona had added meaning. Not only does a trophy come home to the Bay Area, but someone who Curry has a close relationship with was at the top of college basketball.

Stanford freshman star Cameron Brink grew up with Curry’s family, as Brink’s mother Michell and Curry’s mother Sonya were best friends in college. Sonya Curry was named Brink’s godmother and therefore the Warriors star and national champion are “godsiblings” if you will.

The Cardinal defeated Arizona 54-53 to take home their first title in 29 years.

Sierra Canyon star Ziaire Williams commits to Stanford on UNINTERRUPTED

The star player of the Sierra Canyon Trail Blazers that made it all the way to the CIF Open State Final is going to Stanford.

Sierra Canyon’s star player Ziaire Williams, who hit a thrilling game-winner for the Trail Blazers before the coronavirus canceled sports all across the country, still had a big decision to make even though the season is over. As senior, Williams had to decide where he wanted to go to college, even if college sports and college basketball don’t start when the coming school year does.

But on Sunday morning, Williams announced his choice, indicating that he will stay on the west coast to play his college ball with the Stanford Cardinal. Williams announced the decision through LeBron’s UNINTERRUPTED sports media company, which also had a camera crew following Sierra Canyon through the season.

Just as it’s unclear when sports will return in any way at the college level, there’s also plenty of uncertainty of when sports will resume at the youth and high school levels. Even though Williams is gone, Sierra Canyon will have high expectations once again whenever high school basketball resumes.
