Raiders standouts on Day 2 of joint practices with 49ers

Raiders standouts on Day 2 of joint practices with 49ers

That’s a wrap for Raiders joint practices with the 49ers. It was an eventful couple days in some way. If by those ways you mean the Raiders defense which was getting their hands on the ball several times.

Here are the standouts from today’s practice:

LB Robert Spillane

The linebacker who has had all of one takeaway in his career, had a couple interceptions today. One came in 11-on-11s, the other in 7-on-7s.

CB Marcus Peters

The veteran former All Pro had interceptions on both days of the joint practices and his swagger is clearly rubbing off on the rest of the secondary.

WR Jakobi Meyers

With Hunter Renfrow not practicing, and Davante Adams going down injured on the first play of team sessions, Meyers was the only starter left. He had a touchdown on a slant to finish off the first drive of team sessions.

All QB’s

All three Raiders quarterbacks showed well today. Jimmy Garoppollo led the first team to a touchdown to Jakobi Meyers and two-point conversion to DeAndre Carter. Then Brian Hoyer nearly had a three-play touchdown drive which began with consecutive long completions to Keelan Cole and ended with a deep ball to Phillip Dorsett who wasn’t able to keep both feet inbounds in the back of the end zone. Aidan O’Connell had the best long ball completion of the day to fellow rookie Tre Tucker.

DE Issac Rochell

On more than one rep in DL vs OL drills, Rochell got through to the QB. First, driving his man back and then putting on a swim move to get into the pocket. Then getting his man off balance and shucking him aside to get pressure.

DE Maxx Crosby

Crosby was lined up across from the 49ers right tackle Colton McKivitz for a rep in drills. He made mincemeat of him, first leading him upfield before spinning inside to crash the pocket.

DT Adam Butler

The best spin move from the inside came from Butler who was able to leave his man flat footed with the move to get pressure.

5 standouts from first week of Chiefs training camp

These five players have made their case to either make the #Chiefs’ 53-man roster or elevate their position on Kansas City’s depth chart.

Training camp is a time for lesser-known prospects to make their case for an NFL roster spot, and many of the Kansas City Chiefs’ players have looked hungry to make the cut through five days of practice in St. Joseph.

On both sides of the ball, rookies and veterans alike are participating in drills with enthusiasm through sweltering workouts at Missouri Western State University. Several unheralded up-and-comers have warranted a look either on the Chiefs’ 53-man roster or higher than they currently sit on the team’s depth chart.

5 standout players from Chiefs mandatory minicamp

Our @goldmctNFL takes a glance at five of the standout players from the #Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp practices:

The Kansas City Chiefs completed their three-day mandatory minicamp last Thursday, holding two practice sessions and a mock conditioning test during the week.

Mandatory minicamp is the first time that all 90 players are required to be in the building during the offseason program. It amounts to what Andy Reid has come to refer to as a “passing camp.” Basically, they’re focusing solely on the passing game because they’re not playing in pads, going full speed and engaging in contact practices yet.

Who impressed most during the two days on the practice field in Kansas City? Here’s a look at five players that stood out above the rest:

7 standout players from Chiefs rookie minicamp

Our @goldmctNFL has the rundown on a few of the standouts from the #Chiefs’ rookie minicamp.

The Kansas City Chiefs completed their three-day rookie minicamp on Monday.

This was the first taste of NFL living for seven draft picks, 17 undrafted free agents and over 50 tryout players who were among those in attendance. Players only practiced in helmets and shorts with no pads, but they were allowed to do 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 team drills.

Rookie minicamp amounted to what Andy Reid refers to as a “passing camp.” Basically, it’s tougher to evaluate offensive linemen, running backs, defensive linemen, and linebackers fully because they’re not playing in pads, going full speed and engaging in contact practices.

Because of that, we’re not going to be focusing much on those positions. Instead, we are looking at some wide receivers, corners, safeties and one linebacker who impressed.

5 standouts for Chiefs from 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl

Our @Nicolas_Roesch names five standouts for the #Chiefs from the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

The 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl is in the books, and you can bet the Kansas City Chiefs’ scouting department watched with a keen eye. The Chiefs have drafted several players who have participated in the Senior Bowl over the last two years, including standout starting offensive linemen Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith. Last year they grabbed a pair of cornerbacks in Joshua Williams and Jaylen Watson.

Let’s take a look at some players who shined in this game that could be a fit for K.C. come April’s draft:

4 standouts for Chiefs from East-West Shrine Bowl

Our @Nicolas_Roesch names four standouts for the #Chiefs from the East-West Shrine Bowl.

Although Super Bowl LVII is currently at the forefront for the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s also time to start looking toward the future. The East-West Shrine Bowl was played on Thursday night and featured plenty of talent across the board.

Let’s take a look at some of the top performers from the game, who could be on the Chiefs’ radar come April:

8 standouts from Packers’ 41-17 win over Vikings

Highlighting eight standouts from the Packers’ 41-17 win over the Vikings in Week 17.

Following a dominating win over the Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay Packers control their playoff destiny thanks to a Washington Commanders loss earlier in the day.

What a difference 16 weeks can make. In Week 1, the Vikings got the best of the Packers 23-7. Green Bay’s defense had no answer for Justin Jefferson on his way to a 184-yard and two-touchdown performance. Fast forward to Week 17, and the script was completely flipped as Jefferson was stifled for just one catch of 15 yards.

This Packers defense has been on a hot streak since Week 13. Over the past four games, a defense that had once been dormant is now taking the ball away like no other, with nine interceptions over that span.

Last week, it was Tua Tagovailoa who threw three picks in the second half so Green Bay could secure their seventh win. Kirk Cousins matched that total and helped a team that is oozing with confidence at just the right time.

Thanks to a stellar defensive performance, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ offense didn’t have to expend a ton of energy in a 41-17 win.

The Vikings, of course, have already clinched a playoff spot but were in contention for the top seed in the NFC before Sunday’s loss. Green Bay now needs a win over the Detroit Lions in the final week of the regular season to clinch a playoff spot.

But before we look ahead to a crucial Week 18 matchup, let’s highlight the standouts from the Packers’ most recent victory.

Studs and duds from the Saints’ Week 15 win against the Falcons

New Orleans Saints standouts like Kentavius Street, Rashid Shaheed, and Justin Evans rose to the occasion in their win over the Atlanta Falcons:

The New Orleans Saints didn’t lack for standouts on Sunday. Players like Kentavius Street, Rashid Shaheed, and Justin Evans rose to the occasion in their Week 15 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Let’s highlight the peak performers and underwhelming outings in this week’s studs and duds:

6 standouts from Packers’ 28-19 win over Bears

Highlighting the standouts from the Packers’ 28-19 win over the Bears.

The Green Bay Packers have a pulse after beating the Chicago Bears 28-19 on Sunday. Naturally, beating a division rival is always sweet but doing it to make history makes it a little sweeter.

The Packers and Bears entered Week 13 tied for the most wins in NFL history. Now, Green Bay has sole possession and bragging rights after sweeping the regular season series against Chicago for the fourth-straight year.

However, the Packers’ 787th win in franchise history didn’t come easy. Green Bay trailed 16-3 in the first half before mounting a fourth-quarter comeback to secure their fifth win of the season. The offense needed 18 points in the final 15 minutes and two interceptions from Bears quarterback Justin Fields to make it happen.

The Packers head into the bye week with a chance to get healthy and rest up before continuing an attempt to turn their season around with a strong finish. But before we look ahead, let’s look back at the standouts from their win over Chicago.

5 standouts from Packers’ 31-28 win over Cowboys

Highlighting the top standouts for the Packers from Sunday’s win over the Cowboys.

Down but not out. The Green Bay Packers trailed by 14 points in the second half against the Dallas Cowboys before storming back to pull off a 31-28 win in overtime. With seven games left on the schedule, the Packers improved to 4-6 and are still in the mix for the postseason.

It was an unfortunate ending for Mike McCarthy, whose homecoming was spoiled by the team that fired him in 2018. This was Dallas’ game to lose after capitalizing on a muffed punt and forcing a three-and-out before driving 86 yards to go up by 14 in the third quarter.

Earlier in the season, this Green Bay team would have folded in such adverse conditions. However, with the season and the prospect of a six-game losing streak on the line, they decided to fight.

The Packers rallied to score 14 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game, and maybe could’ve won it in regulation if not for poor game management from Matt LaFleur. With one minute and 38 seconds remaining in regulation, Green Bay’s offense showed very little urgency when they needed only 30 yards to attempt a field goal. Rodgers said after the game he was upset with the play calling that led to a wasted opportunity.

“Our guys bailed me out,” a relieved LaFleur said postgame.

After losing the overtime coin toss, Green Bay’s defense rose to the occasion by stopping the Cowboys on fourth down to give the ball to Rodgers, who delivered like he has many times during his illustrious career. The most pivotal play came on third down when Rodgers found Allen Lazard on a slant for a 36-yard catch and run that eventually set up Mason Crosby’s game-winner.

Sunday’s come-from-behind win may have saved the Packers’ season momentarily, though they have a quick around with another challenging opponent in the 6-3 Tennessee Titans coming to town on Thursday. But before we look ahead, let’s look back at the standouts from Green Bay’s improbable week 10 win.
