5 facts to know about St. Peter’s as the Peacocks try to continue their March Madness Cinderella run

Some facts to know about the home of the Peacocks.

Can St. Peter’s actually win another March Madness game to give the No. 15 seeded Peacocks a chance at the Elite Eight?

Purdue presents a tall task on Friday. But you just never know in the men’s NCAA tournament — fun fact, 10 No. 15 seeds have ever won an opening-round game and this team is one of them.

For now, let’s focus on getting to know the school that has suddenly grabbed a much larger fanbase thanks to a couple of wins over No. 2-seeded Kentucky and Murray State.

So before we watch to see if the Peacocks can keep this going, let’s get to know St. Peter’s more:

How the top six basketball conferences fared in round one of March Madness

The Big 12 fared the best in the first round.

It is one of the best times of the year, where brackets are busted as quickly as they were made and we are now in the infancy of a couple cinderella stories.

It has been just two days of the March Madness tournament and there have been multiple upsets already. Kentucky lost to St. Peter’s, a school that your high school is likely bigger than, Iowa was out dueled by Richmond, and USC’s record breaking season ended at the hands of Miami.

One of the teams that did survive was Texas, a program led by first-year head coach Chris Beard. The Longhorns were able to outshoot one of the hottest teams in the nation in Virginia Tech, who were coming off winning the ACC tournament.

Texas will be rewarded by having to take on Purdue, one of the best three point shooting teams in the country that also happens to have two really talented big men. Not an ideal matchup, but at least the Longhorns were able to end their drought of not making it past the first round of the tournament.

Texas’ former coach Shaka Smart found himself in a familiar spot, as he and Marquette were blown out by North Carolina and were a first round exit.

The Big 12 as a whole did well, as all six teams that made the big dance were able to survive and advance, but not all conferences were that lucky. Here is how the Power 6 conferences (yes there are six in basketball) fared in the first round of March Madness.

The Peacocks just upset Kentucky in the NCAA tournament…so where is St. Peter’s?

The Peacocks shocked the NCAA tournament…so where is St. Peter’s?

The St. Peter’s Peacocks entered Thursday night’s men’s NCAA tournament as a 15-seed. They proceeded to dethrone one of the blue bloods of college basketball as the Peacocks played Cinderella and upset No. 2-seed Kentucky, 85-79. It was St. Peter’s first NCAA tournament win in school history, and it’s certainly a memorable one.

Daryl Banks III went off to the tune of 27 points, and teammate Doug Edert finished with 20 points as the Peacocks kept the highly favored Wildcats within reach all game.

So that begs the question that many college basketball fans might have at this moment: Where exactly is St. Peter’s University?

If you guessed Jersey City, New Jersey, you’d be correct!

The Peacocks hope to keep the magic going in the second round where they’ll face either Murray State or San Francisco.
