St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The St. Louis Cardinals (27-29) take on the Philadelphia Phillies (41-18) on Sunday Night Baseball in the finale of a 3-game set at Citizens Bank Park at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cardinals vs. Phillies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Phillies lead 4-1

The Cards were 12-3 over their last 15 games to reach .500 for the 1st time since April 16 before entering this series. They have dropped both games by 4-2 and 6-1 finals. Saturday, their ace Sonny Gray, gave up 3 ER in the 1st, and it kind of took the wind out of their sails. They wound up scoring 1 run, on a sac fly, and mustered just 5 hits despite the Phils losing their league-leading starting pitcher after 2 innings.

Phillies 1B Bryce Harper went 2-for-3 and hit his 14th homer of the season. The Phillies are now 9-2 against St. Louis over the last 2 seasons, and they have the best record in baseball. They have the 2nd-best ERA at 3.02, 4th-best BA at .257 and score the most runs at 5.2 per game. They were also generous enough to cash us a +190 parlay in Friday’s affair.

Cardinals at Phillies projected starters

RHP Lance Lynn vs. RHP Taijuan Walker

Lynn (2-3, 3.45 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.34 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 in 57 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 1 ER (3 R), 3 BB, 5 K Monday against Cincinnati Reds
  • Last 5 regular season starts vs. Phillies: 2-1, 3.07 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 29 K in 29 1/3 IP

Walker (3-1, 5.51 ERA) makes his 7th start. He has a 1.59 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9 and 6.9 K/9 in 32 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 5 ER, 9 H, 2 BB, 4 K Monday against San Francisco Giants
  • Last 5 starts vs. Cardinals: 1-1, 3.52 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 28 K in 30 2/3 IP

Cardinals at Phillies picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 6, Phillies 5

Moneyline

Lynn led baseball with 44 homers allowed last year, but he has allowed just 7 thus far. Citizens Bank is typically a hitters’ haven, but he has been great in 2 career starts there. Over 12 IP, he has allowed 4 ER (3.00 ERA) on 5 H, 4 BB and has fanned 10. He didn’t factor into the decision in his start against the Phils at Busch April 10. He allowed 2 unearned runs on 1 H and 4 BB while fanning 6 in 5 IP.

Lynn helps salvage a game in the series, and Walker has allowed 8 ER in his last 2 GS. So expect runs in bunches when you take the CARDINALS +120.

Run line/Against the spread

There is 1 prop that sticks out. The books don’t expect Lynn to go very deep into this one, but he has gone 6 IP in his last 2 starts. I also illustrated his good performances in this park as well.

I’ll take LANCE LYNN OVER 15.5 TOTAL OUTS (-110).

Over/Under

The wind is slated to be blowing out to right-center upon first pitch. We also have a couple of homer-friendly starters and a couple offenses that can cash an Over 9 with a quickness. Both teams are 3-6-1 O/U in their last 10, and the total has gone Under and pushed in the first 2.

We’re bucking that trend Sunday night and going OVER 9 (-120).

St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The St. Louis Cardinals (27-27) take on the Philadelphia Phillies (39-18) Friday in the opener of a 3-game set at Citizens Bank Park at 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cardinals vs. Phillies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Phillies lead 2-1

The Cards are 12-3 over their last 15 games to reach .500 for the 1st time since April 16. They won 5-3 Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds to take 2 of 3 on the road. RHP Andre Pallante dealt 6 shutout innings after his recall from the minors, and 2B Nolan Gorman hit his 10th HR.

The Phils returned from a 2-4 road trip after a 6-1 victory Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants. DH Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-4 with his 11th HR. He’s hitting .307 with 3 HR and 18 RBIs in 88 at-bats this month.

Cardinals at Phillies projected starters

RHP Miles Mikolas vs. RHP Aaron Nola

Mikolas (3-5, 5.64 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.36 WHIP, 2.0 BB/9 and 6.9 K/9 in 59 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 6 K Saturday against the Chicago Cubs
  • Last 5 regular season starts vs. Phillies: 1-3, 4.31 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 14 K’s in 31 1/3 IP

Nola (6-2, 3.04 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.06 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 8.2 K/9 in 71 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K Saturday against the Colorado Rockies
  • Last 5 regular season starts vs. Cardinals: 2-1, 3.52 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 27 K’s in 30 2/3 IP

Cardinals at Phillies picks and predictions

Prediction

Phillies 4, Cardinals 3

Moneyline

The Phillies have a clear advantage on the mound. In fact, Mikolas is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in 4 games (3 starts) at Citizens Bank Park in his career. The Cards just lost 2-hole-hitter OF Lars Nootbaar to the IL with an oblique strain.

But we’re not taking the Phils at -190. Instead, SGP the PHILLIES ML + AARON NOLA OVER 1.5 EARNED RUNS (+195).

Nola has allowed 2+ ER in his last 2 starts, and in 4 of 5 against St. Louis.

Run line/Against the spread

Skip the RL and head straight to KYLE SCHWARBER OVER 1.5 TOTAL BASES (+100). Schwarbs has 2+ total bases in 3 straight and 4 of 5. He’s having a great month, and Mikolas is among the leaders in hits allowed.

Over/Under

The Over is just 3-7 in the last 10 meetings. The Cards are 5-5 O/U, and Philadelphia is 4-6. The Under cashed in the 1st 3 meetings in St. Louis in April. The wind is slated to blow in from left field at 6 mph.

I’ll take the UNDER 8 (-115).

St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (44-36) are center stage against the Philadelphia Phillies (41-38) for Sunday Night Baseball at Citizens Bank Park in the finale of a 3-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Phillies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: The series is tied 1-1.

St. Louis held off the Phillies 6-5 Saturday after blowing a 5-0 lead fueled by 4 first-inning home runs. They jumped out to a 3-run lead Friday, and their bullpen couldn’t hold that lead, either, as they lost 5-3. The Cards are 5-5, 10-10 and 15-15 over the last 5, 10 and 30 games, respectively.

The Phils are staying afloat without star OF Bryce Harper, who is expected to miss another 3-5 weeks with a broken thumb. Philadelphia is 21-20 at home this season. First baseman Rhys Hoskins continues to mash as he’s hitting .350 with a .480 OBP, 3 HR and 4 RBI over the last 7 days.

Cardinals at Phillies projected starters

RHP Adam Wainwright vs. RHP Zack Wheeler

Wainwright (6-5, 3.07 ERA) makes his 16th start. He has a 1.25 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 7.5 K/9 in 91 IP.

  • He threw a complete-game loss against the Phillies last season, allowing 2 R on 6 H with 8 K in 9 IP.
  • His WHIP is way up from 1.06 last season, and he has allowed 50 hits in 46 IP in his last 7 starts.
  • Current Phillies are hitting .305 with a .359 weighted on-base average in 90 plate appearances against him.

Wheeler (6-4, 2.89 ERA) makes his 15th start. He has a 1.10 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 10.4 K/9 in 81 IP.

  • Has given up 5 ER in 10 2/3 innings in his last 2 starts
  • Has 8 or more strikeouts in 6 of last 8 starts
  • Current Cardinals are hitting .194 with a .240 weighted on-base average in 35 plate appearances against him.

Cardinals at Phillies picks and predictions

Prediction

Phillies 5, Cardinals 4

Money line

The Cards nearly emptied its bullpen Saturday after LHP Matthew Liberatore was only able to go 2 2/3 innings. That’s when Wainwright steps up and delivers 6 or 7 innings. The Cards have scored at least 3 runs in 7 straight games. These teams are so evenly matched, I’m willing to LEAN CARDINALS FIRST 5 INNINGS (+160). I can’t go with them for the full game because their best reliever, Ryan Helsley, threw 37 pitches Saturday and is likely off limits Sunday.

Run line/Against the spread

The Cardinals +1.5 (-160) is right at my limit for a run line. The Cards are 24-16 on the run line on the road. I would consider that, or you can go with a special BOOSTED prop bet for WHEELER WITH 8 K’s & THE PHILLIES WIN (+340). The Cards don’t strike out a lot, but Wheeler fanned them 9 times in his April 2021 start, and he has hit 8 K in 6 of his last 8 starts overall.

Over/Under

These 2 have hit this number in both games, and it’s expected to be a warm 88 degrees at game time. So the ball could travel, and both pitchers have given up hard contact of late. We’ll take the OVER 7.5 (-120) for a HALF UNIT.

St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (6-7) and Philadelphia Phillies (7-6) tangle in the middle game of a three-game series Saturday at 4:05 p.m. ET at Citizens Bank Park. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Phillies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Kwang Hyun Kim is the projected starting pitcher for the Cardinals. The sophomore southpaw has been on the shelf after injuring his back in spring training. In 8 games last year, Kim went 3-0 with a 1.62 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 5.54 K/9, and 2.8 BB/9 in 39 IP.

LHP Matt Moore is the projected starter for the Phillies. He is 0-0 with a 7.56 ERA, 2.40 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 and 4.3 BB/9 through 8 1/3 IP over 2 starts. The reclamation project, who missed most of 2019 after knee surgery and spent 2020 in Japan, has allowed 17 base runners in 8 1/3 IP.

  • Money line: Cardinals -115 (bet $115 to win $100) | Phillies -105 (bet $105 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cardinals -1.5 (+135) | Phillies +1.5 (-160)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Phillies 5, Cardinals 4

Money line (ML)

Heading into this series, the Phillies had gone 1-5 over their previous six games. The Redbirds had lost four of their last five. The Phils took a commanding early lead and cruised to a 9-2 victory in Friday’s series opener.

On a fade of Kim — who benefited from generous rates around the margins in his 2020 debut season — and the St. Louis offense, PHILADELPHIA -105 is a solid play Saturday.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on what is a juicier expression of a play on the Phillies.

Over/Under (O/U)

Cool, overcast, breeze-in conditions are in the forecast. A general pitching fade that extends to these bullpens works against that. Happy to take the Over in a hitter’s park, but I’m willing to wait and see if the weather conditions — and Kim’s 2020 ERA — get bettors off the same feel. Go lightly on the plus money at UNDER 8.5 (+100).

St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia Phillies odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (6-6) and Philadelphia Phillies (6-6) open a three-game series Friday at 7:05 p.m. ET at Citizens Bank Park. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Phillies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Carlos Martinez is the projected starting pitcher for the Cardinals. He is 0-2 with a 6.30 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 4.5 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 through 10 IP over 2 starts. Martinez has an 8.70 ERA over 7 starts across the last two seasons (2020-21); he clocked a 3.22 ERA in 175 games from 2015-19.

RHP Zach Eflin is the projected starter for the Phillies. He is 0-0 with a 3.46 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 6.9 K/9 and 1.4 BB/9 through 13 IP over 2 starts. Eflin was ticketed for a Thursday start against the New York Mets, but that game was rained out. He faced Atlanta twice thus far; he ran into a lot of bats in the second of those two turns and allowed 4 earned runs over 6 innings.

Cardinals at Phillies odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 12:15 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Cardinals +120 (bet $100 to win $120) | Phillies -145 (bet $145 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cardinals +1.5 (-155) | Phillies -1.5 (+125)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Phillies 4, Cardinals 3

Money line (ML)

Philadelphia is coming off a rough road trip after a solid start to the season. The Phillies went 1-5 over six games against the Braves and Mets. They head into this series on a three-game losing skid.

The Redbirds are nearly in the opposite boat. St. Louis has lost four of its last five and was playing better on the road early in the season.

This series in Philly features a Cardinals offense scoring 5.0 runs per game to rank seventh in MLB against a Phillies pitching staff doing a credible job of keeping runs off the board with a 12th-ranked 4.09 team ERA.

Both sides seem a tad fade-able heading into the back half of April. PASS ON THE MONEY LINE.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

On just a sliver of a lean, TAKE THE CARDINALS +1.5 (-155) in a game with an Under feel.

Over/Under (O/U)

Philadelphia’s Thursday rainout helps the Under here. Neither bullpen is anything special, but at least the Phillies come in with a rested relief corps. Eflin is a solid home pitcher, and with the rainout avoids a left-leaning Mets lineup in favor of more righty bats in the St. Louis order.

The weather forecast calls for a chance of wet weather, a cool-ish evening, and a double-digit breeze in from left field. Peg the Cardinals offense as being over its head at the 5.0 RPG level.

TAKE THE UNDER 8.5 (-115).
