Analyzing Monday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The St. Louis Cardinals (13-15) take on the Detroit Tigers (16-12) Monday in the opener of a 3-game set at Comerica Park at 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Cardinals vs. Tigers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Tigers won 2-1 last year

The Cards failed to close out the sweep of the New York Mets Sunday when they fell 4-2 in 11 innings. They mustered just 4 hits in 11 innings and scored 1 run without the automatic runner in another uninspiring offensive display. They’re tied for 26th with 3.6 R/game, 28th with a .217 BA and are tied for 2nd-to-last with 18 homers. They’re just 4½ games out of 1st in a weak NL Central, but they’re in last place.

The Tigers took 2 of 3 from the Kansas City Royals over the weekend, and they’ve done this in 3 straight series. The Tigers are 4th with a 3.14 ERA, 2nd with a 1.08 WHIP and 7th with 3.9 runs allowed per game. OF Mark Canha is powering the offense with a .272 BA, 5 HR and 15 RBI.

Cardinals at Tigers projected starters

LHP Steven Matz vs. RHP Kenta Maeda

Matz (1-2, 5.55 ERA) makes his 6th start. He has a 1.60 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9 and 5.9 K/9 in 24 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 1/3 IP, 7 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 4 K Tuesday against Arizona Diamondbacks; has allowed 12 ER in last 2 GS
  • 3 career starts vs. Tigers: 0-0, 1.56 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 5 K in 17 1/3 IP

Maeda (0-1, 5.96 ERA) makes his 6th start. He has a 1.37 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 in 22 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 5 K Tuesday against Tampa Bay Rays
  • 4 career regular-season starts vs. STL: 2-1, 5.85 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 14 K in 20 IP

Cardinals at Tigers picks and predictions

Prediction

Tigers 4, Cardinals 2

Moneyline

In this old-fashioned pick ’em, we have a team good at preventing runs in the Tigers and a team that can’t score runs in the Cardinals. Maeda has a dicey history against St. Louis, but he hasn’t faced it since 2019. And the Cards were a much different team then.

Take the TIGERS -110.

Run line/Against the spread

The Tigers have the 5th-best bullpen ERA in baseball at 2.71. Once Maeda goes his 5 innings and only allows 2-3 runs, it’s lights out. I like the ALTERNATE LINE TIGERS -1.5 (+170).

Over/Under

The Cards are 4-6 O/U over their last 10, and the Tigers are 5-3-2. Neither team packs the offensive punch, and there’s a 12.5-mph wind expected to be blowing in from right-center.

Take the UNDER 8.5 (-120).

St. Louis Cardinals at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (36-37) and Detroit Tigers (31-42) play the finale of a two-game set Wednesday with a 1:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Comerica Park. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Tigers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP John Gant is the projected starting pitcher for the Cardinals. He is 4-5 with a 3.50 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, 6.7 K/9 and 6.4 BB/9 in 61 2/3 IP over 13 starts.

Gant has dropped his past two starts, and he hasn’t won in four outings dating back to May 26 on the road against the Chicago White Sox, his only previous appearance this season against an American League squad.

RHP Matt Manning is the projected starting pitcher for the Tigers. He is 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 5.4 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9 in 5 IP in 1 start.

Manning will be making his second-career start. He allowed two earned runs, four hits and two walks with three strikeouts across five innings in a loss on the road against the Los Angeles Angels last Thursday.

  • Money line: Cardinals -125 (bet $125 to win $100) | Tigers +105 (bet $100 to win $105)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cardinals -1.5 (+125) | Tigers +1.5 (-155)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Cardinals 5, Tigers 3

Money line (ML)

The CARDINALS (-125) look to rebound after getting tuned up 8-2 in Tuesday’s game against the Tigers (+105). Gant has been up and down this season, but he showed some signs of life last time out in Atlanta. I am just not trusting the rookie Manning in his second-ever outing.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The CARDINALS -1.5 (+125) are worth a small-unit play. Yes, Gant has been shaky, but Manning is likely to allow plenty to a veteran-laden lineup on getaway day.

Over/Under (O/U)

That leads us to the UNDER 9 (+100), which is the play in this daytime affair. The wind will be blowing in from right field at 9-12 mph into the face of left-handed batters on what is expected to be a rather overcast, cooler afternoon in Motown.

St. Louis Cardinals at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s St. Louis Cardinals at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (36-36) vs. Detroit Tigers (30-42) will begin a two-game series Tuesday with a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Comerica Park. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Tigers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Johan Oviedo is the projected starting pitcher for the Cardinals. He is 0-2 with a 4.58 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 7.4 K/9 and 4.6 BB/9 in 35 1/3 IP over 7 starts and 1 relief appearance.

Oviedo has had some control issues, as evidenced by the 11 walks he surrendered over a span of two starts last month. He has since issued just three free passes in 15 1/3 IP in his last three outings, which includes seven scoreless innings against the Marlins last week.

LHP Tarik Skubal is the projected starting pitcher for the Tigers. He is 4-7 with a 4.36 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 11.0 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9 in 66 IP over 12 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Skubal got off to a rough start this season but has been rolling lately. He has posted a 3.00 ERA and 50/14 K/BB across 33 IP in his last six starts.

Cardinals at Tigers odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9:09 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Cardinals -120 (bet $120 to win $100) | Tigers +100 (bet $100 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Cardinals -1.5 (+135) | Tigers +1.5 (-160)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Tigers 5, Cardinals 3

Money line (ML)

Skubal has been pitching at a high level over the last several weeks. He should carry that success over Tuesday evening against a Cardinal offense that boasts the lowest OPS, and the 6th highest K%, in June. Back the TIGERS (+100).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The St. Louis bats have been struggling, as they have been held to two runs or less in seven of their last nine contests. They look like a poor bet to have a big day against Skubal, so TIGERS +1.5 (-160) is a solid play. Flipping the line to TIGERS -1.5 (+190) could result in a real nice payout.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Tigers have been hitting pretty well lately, averaging exactly five runs per game in the month of June. They should put up some runs against Oviedo, but unless his control issues resurface, they’re unlikely to explode for a huge day.

On the other side, Skubal has been pitching great and is facing a team that has been among the worst in the league offensively in recent weeks. He is likely to keep the Cardinals in check, so a small play on UNDER 8.5 (+100) looks like the side to take on this total.
