  • Moneyline: Netherlands -415 (bet $415 to win $100) | South Africa +950 (bet $100 to win $950) | Draw +500
  • Over/Under: 3.5 (O: +105 | U: -145)

Netherlands vs. South Africa picks and predictions

Prediction

Netherlands 2, South Africa 1

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

There’s just no value here. Netherlands is the better side, and South Africa struggled against both Italy and Argentina, giving up 4 combined goals to them, and it lost to Sweden with just 31% possession. Netherlands (-415) isn’t worth a wager though: it’s simply too expensive.

The better bet is BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE (-120).

South Africa averaged 2 goals per game and scored on Sweden, striking first in the match. It scored 3 on Italy and 2 on Argentina. Its struggle is defensive, so expect the Netherlands to get on the board.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 3.5 (-145).

The two matches between top sides within each nation’s respective group stage were South Africa against Sweden and USA against Netherlands. Both games went Under this total. Netherlands scored just 1 on the USA and had just 5 shots.

South Africa ended with minimal possession and 4 shots on frame against Sweden while limiting Sweden to 6 shots on frame — and Sweden is arguably among the best nations in the world.

Netherlands destroyed Vietnam, but it struggled to get on the board against Portugal, scoring just once. It allowed just 1 goal throughout the 3 matches and should showcase that strong defense Saturday.

Back UNDER 3.5 (-145).

2023 Women’s World Cup: South Africa vs. Italy odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s South Africa vs. Italy odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

In a Group G matchup, South Africa (0-1-1) and Italy (1-0-1) meet Wednesday in the 2023 Women’s World Cup at Wellington Regional Stadium in New Zealand. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the South Africa vs. Italy odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

South Africa suffered a 2-1 setback against Sweden in the opener on July 23 and played to a 2-2 draw against Argentina Thursday. With a win and a little help, South Africa can play its way into the Round of 16.

Italy was thrashed 5-0 by Sweden last time out, splashing cold water on last Monday’s 1-0 victory over Argentina. The Azzurri have an ugly minus-4 goal differential, so it basically loses any tiebreaker. As such, a draw would likely not cut it if Argentina were to upend Sweden.

South Africa vs. Italy odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 11:13 a.m. ET.

  • Moneyline: South Africa +375 (bet $100 to win $375) | Italy -150 (bet $150 to win $100) | Draw +280 (Bet $100 to win $280)
  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -120 | U: -120)

South Africa vs. Italy picks and predictions

Prediction

Italy 2, South Africa 1

Moneyline (ML)

ITALY (-150) will need all hands on deck as it looks to recover from a 5-0 beating from Sweden. It cannot rely upon a draw to get through to the Round of 16 based on an ugly goal differential, so it will be pushing hard on offense trying to break through and South Africa hasn’t offered much resistance to date, conceding 4 goals through 2 matches.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 2.5 GOALS (-120) will cost you a little extra, but it’s the best play on the board. The Over-Under has split across 2 games to date for Italy while the Over has cashed in both fixtures for South Africa.

I like ITALY TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE (+240) for a chance to more than double up, too. In addition, play the “multiple correct score” prop, considering ITALY 2:1, 3:1 OR 4:1 (+350) for a shot at multiplying your initial wager by 3 1/2 times.

2023 Women’s World Cup: Argentina vs. South Africa odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Argentina vs. South Africa odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

South Africa (0 wins, 0 draws, 1 loss) battles Argentina (0-0-1) Thursday from Forsyth Barr Stadium. Kickoff in the 2nd Group G match for each nation is set for 8 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Argentina vs. South Africa odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

South Africa almost pulled off the unthinkable in a 2-1 loss to Sweden. It went up 1-0 with a 48th-minute goal from M Hildah Magaia. South Africa ended the game with 4 shots on goal amid its 10 shots, respectively 2 and 5 fewer than its opponent. It had just 31% possession as well. South Africa is 54th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings while Sweden sits 3rd.

Argentina ranks 28th and also lost its opening match, 1-0 to Italy conceding in the 87th minute. Argentina’s offense struggled mightily, ending with just 5 shots and 1 on target despite having 47% of the possession. It had won 5 of its 6 friendlies coming into the event, having taken down No. 26 New Zealand in back-to-back matches in February.

Argentina vs. South Africa odds

  • Moneyline: Argentina +105 (bet $100 to win $105) | Italy +270 (bet $100 to win $270) | Draw +220 (bet $100 to win $240)
  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: +150 | U: -210)

Argentina vs. South Africa picks and predictions

Prediction

Argentina 1, South Africa 0

Moneyline (ML)

BET ARGENTINA (+105).

Argentina struggled in its opener, but Italy and Sweden were both the favorites in the group, so its losing isn’t too shocking. It has a solid track record this calendar year which is worth backing. It beat Venezuela 3-0 on April 9. Venezuela even sits above South Africa in the world rankings.

Despite having scored, South Africa had minimal possession and was generally dominated against the top-tier Sweden. While Argentina will be more at its level, South Africa’s lack of control was concerning and could lead to fewer counter-attacking opportunities, which is where it did most of its work.

Argentina’s offense is better than it showed and South Africa had likely the best game it has had in recent history. Expect Argentina to improve and South Africa likely to fade to its mean. Take ARGENTINA (+105).

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN ALTERNATE UNDER 1.5 (+145).

Argentina had 1 shot on goal while South Africa had just 4 in each team’s opener. Neither team really showed much offensively, and against each other in a tournament in which the Under has been incredibly hot, backing fewer goals is the smart move here.

South Africa will have to build through its back and have fewer counterattacks in this battle which should showcase its lesser-than-ideal technical side.

With the Under hot in the tournament and both teams have struggled in their 1st matchday, take the UNDER 1.5 (+145).

2023 Women’s World Cup: Sweden vs. South Africa odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Sweden vs. South Africa odds and lines, with Women’s World Cup soccer expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Sweden battles South Africa in Group G competition of the 2023 Women’s World Cup Sunday. Kickoff from Wellington Regional Stadium in New Zealand is set for 1 a.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Sweden vs. South Africa odds, and make our best Women’s World Cup bets, picks and predictions.

Sweden, ranked No. 3 in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings. is the favorite to win Group G.  Italy (No. 16) and Argentina (28) round out the group with South Africa (54).

South Africa qualified for the World Cup by being the quarterfinal winners of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. South Africa is 2-2-1 (W-L-D) in 2023 after finishing 2022 with a 3-4-1 record. It beat Costa Rica 2-0 in its most recent game, a friendly on July 15.

Sweden will be bringing one of the event’s most experienced squads, led by 38-year-old M Caroline Seger, who has 235 caps. It will also have versatility in its attack as 4 players have tallied 20 or more goals. Sweden is 2-1-2 on the year, coming off a 5-1 win July 17 over World Cup participant the Philippines.

Sweden vs. South Africa odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Saturday at 1:58 p.m. ET.

  • Moneyline: Sweden -1200 (bet $1,200 to win $100) | South Africa +2500 (bet $100 to win $2,500) | Draw +1050
  • Over/Under: 3.5 (O: +125 | U: -175)

Sweden vs. South Africa picks and predictions

Prediction

Sweden 4, South Africa 1

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Sweden is one of the best teams in the world and rightfully is a -1200 favorite. However, it is unplayable at these odds given the upsets we’ve seen like New Zealand over Norway and Nigeria drawing Canada.

Similarly, South Africa (+2500) hasn’t performed well throughout the calendar year and hasn’t given much reason to believe it can even pull off a draw.

AVOID this risk.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 3.5 (+125).

Sweden has gone Over this total in 3 of 5 games this year and 3 of 5 games last year, scoring at least 3 goals on its own in 3 of 5 games in 2023.

It has a potent front 3, and 3 players with more than 100 caps in its midfield as well. However, no Swedish goalie has more than 16 caps which could lead to a few miscues early on.

In 2022, South Africa allowed 6 goals to Brazil and 4 to Australia. In 2023, it allowed 5 to Botswana and 3 to Serbia. The latter 2 do not have the same caliber of attack as Sweden either.

South Africa has gone Over this total in 2 of its last 3 games and in 3 of its last 6 games.

Put it all together and TAKE OVER 3.5 (+125).
