Jerry Jeudy had a funny reaction to reason why Broncos-Jets trade was nixed

Jets owner Woody Johnson nixed a Jerry Jeudy trade to New York because of the WR’s Madden rating. This is how Jeudy responded to the report.

Earlier this week, Dianna Russini, Zack Rosenblatt and Michael Silver released a wild report in The Athletic about New York Jets owner Woody Johnson nixing a trade with the Denver Broncos earlier this year.

In the story, Jets general manager Joe Douglas was said to be “deep in negotiations” with Broncos general manager George Paton on a trade that would have sent wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to New York this spring.

Here’s what happened next, according to The Athletic:

The Broncos felt a deal was near. Then, abruptly, it all fell apart. In Denver’s executive offices, they couldn’t believe the reason why.

Douglas told the Broncos that Johnson didn’t want to make the trade because the owner felt Jeudy’s player rating in “Madden NFL,” the popular video game, wasn’t high enough, according to multiple league sources. The Broncos ultimately traded the receiver to the Cleveland Browns.

Jeudy had a Madden rating of 83 overall in last year’s version of the popular NFL video game. His rating improved to 84 this year.

Jeudy took to Twitter/X with a funny response to the report:

Chad “OchoCinco” Johnson is a Madden ratings adjuster (yes, that’s an actual position). The former NFL receiver indicated that the deal getting nixed worked out for Jeudy in the end:

Johnson promised a big ratings increase next year if Jeudy finishes the season strong:

Jeudy later said on a Cleveland radio station that he thinks the report is funny, but fake news.

For what it’s worth, the Broncos have pushed back on The Athletic report through KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis, who tweeted on Thursday that “from the Broncos perspective, talks broke down due to draft compensation and nothing more.”

Jeudy, 25, has hauled in a career-high 70 receptions for a career-best 1,052 receiving yards and four touchdowns through 14 games with the Browns this season.

Adonai Mitchell had a perfect response to Nik Bonitto’s fumble-6

“It was there pretty much until [No.] 15 turned into Ed Reed and just came through out of nowhere,” Adonai Mitchell said of Nik Bonitto.

Struggling to get anything going on offense, the Indianapolis Colts turned to a trick play while trailing the Denver Broncos by four points in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game.

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson threw the ball backwards to wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. The receiver was then set to throw the ball back to Richardson, presumably for the QB to throw the ball downfield.

Mitchell’s backwards throw to Richardson was picked off by Broncos pass rusher Nik Bonitto and returned 51 yards for a touchdown. Technically, it was a fumble-six because the ball was not thrown forward.

After an eventual 31-13 win for Denver, Mitchell had a great quote on the game-changing play.

“If you look at it from my perspective, it was there pretty much until [No.] 15 turned into Ed Reed and just came through out of nowhere,” Mitchell said. “I mean, it was a great play by him. We just have to execute better.”

“I executed,” the receiver said. “I saw it, he was open, I threw it. Turns out he wasn’t open. I don’t know where [No.] 15 came from, but I didn’t see him.”

Bonitto quickly realized that it wasn’t a typical play.

“It was kind of a slow developing play, so I knew something was weird,” the pass rusher said. “The receiver usually doesn’t go catch screens like that. Once I saw Richardson drifting back a little bit, I decided to go try and break on it and ended up getting it.”

Bonitto reached a top speed of 20.19 mph on his return, which marked the fastest speed by a linebacker carrying the ball this season, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

“He is athletic,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said after the win. “That is two games in a row. It was a real good play, and the timing of it. There was like a 10-minute period in the game where it went from being close to not out of reach but certainly in our favor.”

In the team’s last game, Bonitto had a 71-yard pick-six on Monday Night Football against the Cleveland Browns. He became the second player in franchise history to post a defensive touchdown in back-to-back games, joining former defensive back Bill Thompson (1973).

With two scores and the third-most sacks (11.5) in the NFL, Bonitto is making a case to win Defensive Player of the Year. The pass rusher was asked if he’s thought about winning the award.

“Not really because it still doesn’t seem real to be mentioned in that type of light,” Bonitto said. “There are three games left, so we have to take it one game at a time. We just have to keep stacking these wins.”

Bonitto might not be thinking about it, but the stats are on his side. J.J. Watt was the NFL’s last player to total at least 10 sacks and score two defensive touchdowns in the same season (2014), and Watt took home DPOY honors that year. Bonitto is on pace to do the same in 2024.

Social media is furious with NFL officiating in Commanders-Saints game

It’s unanimous: the NFL almost screwed the Commanders.

If you watched Sunday’s game between the Washington Commanders and New Orleans, you likely saw arguably the most egregious NFL officiating error of the 2024 season. We say it’s arguable because there are far too many to count across the league.

New Orleans quarterback Spencer Rattler completed a pass to tight end Foster Moreau at the Washington one-yard line with nine seconds remaining. The clock should’ve kept rolling as Moreau was down in the field of play, and the Saints had no timeouts remaining.

It didn’t, and almost four seconds went off the clock. This allowed Rattler time to get to the line of scrimmage and set his teammates before spiking the ball with three seconds remaining. On the next play, Rattler threw a touchdown pass to Moreau, and the Saints went for the two-point conversion — and win — but missed, preserving a 20-19 win for the Commanders.

During the game and after, social media was angry about the error.

Here are some of those reactions via X.

It’s becoming more difficult for the NFL to beat these types of allegations.

The New Orleans Saints have been bitten by the injury bug plenty of times this season, but few have been has hard to swallow as the loss of Taysom Hill.

Amongst all of the strife over the last few years, Hill’s commitment to team has made him a favorite for pretty much every Saints fan. To see him fall victim to another brutal injury, this time a torn ACL against the Los Angeles Rams, was quite upsetting.

The do-it-all tight end recently took to Instagram, though, to share an update on how he is feeling after the injury.

The main points made in the message are that he is in good spirits as he prepares for surgery. He thanked all fans for the outpouring of support and is confident that he will make a full recovery.

Many pondered if this latest injury would bring his time in black and gold to an end, but it appears as though the 34-year-old will try to make his way back to the field.

In eight seasons playing for New Orleans, Hill has 3,380 yards of scrimmage for 44 touchdowns. He also had 2,369 passing yards with 11 more scores. That doesn’t even cover the contributions he has made on special teams. A true once-in-a-lifetime player.

Steelers fans outraged over ’10-day stretch of doom’ from Weeks 15-17

The Pittsburgh Steelers face a grueling 10-day stretch against top teams, leaving fans to voice their frustrations on social media.

From the seemingly apparent Hard Knocks impact that led NFL schedule makers to pack the Pittsburgh Steelers’ latter half with divisional games, to scheduling three Super Bowl contenders between December 15th and December 25th, fans of the Black and Gold have had enough.

It appears the NFL never expected the 10-3 Pittsburgh Steelers to boast such a dominant record heading into Week 15. Otherwise, it makes little sense to seemingly handicap a potential Super Bowl contender by forcing them to play three games in just 10 days.

Facing the 11-2 Philadelphia Eagles on the road is challenging enough, but following that with a matchup against the 8-5 Baltimore Ravens, with divisional supremacy at stake, and the AFC-leading 12-1 Kansas City Chiefs feels nearly impossible to classify as fair.

To make matters worse, one of the Steelers’ top players, WR George Pickens, is battling a hamstring injury that could sideline him for the entirety of this brutal stretch. Steelers fans are understandably and justifiably upset, and here are some of their most passionate reactions on social media.

Former Chiefs offensive lineman continues to hint at his availability on social media

Former Kansas City #Chiefs offensive lineman Donovan Smith continues to hint at his availability on social media | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs have been hit with numerous injuries on both sides of the ball this season. The latest injury, to recently signed D.J. Humphries, at left tackle, further adds to the bad luck health-wise.

Humphries left Sunday’s Week 14 win over the Los Angeles Chargers early, replaced by former starter Wanya Mortos to finish the game. The veteran’s status wasn’t immediately available, as it was his first game since tearing his ACL a year ago while a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

“I don’t have any injury updates for you. We’re right in the middle of that process, and we’ll just see how things go. I know the tackle’s (D.J. Humphries) one of (those) problems there, so we’ll see how he does.” said head coach Andy Reid during his weekly Zoom call with reporters on Monday. “He’s feeling a little bit better this morning, but we’ll see where it goes from here after he gets an MRI. ”

Following the injury, former Chiefs left tackle Donovan Smith seemingly responded on social media with a GIF reminding the franchise that he won Super Bowl LVIII his availability. Smith made a similar post a month ago when the troubles at left tackle became apparent to the football world.

Twitter reactions from Cowboys’ special teams blunder costing them Bengals game

Social media went into hysteria as a lost Cowboys season somehow got worse with a historic bad beat.

There isn’t much that could be said about the Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 season that hasn’t been said. The most truthful recap is that everything that can go wrong, will. On Monday night, full of 11 days worth of rest, the injury-riddled and overmatched Cowboys came to play.

Their defense held the vaunted Cincinnati offense and QB Joe Burrow to just 20 points. Their offense, down to just one reserve offensive lineman, was running the ball with reckless abandon and they had the game right where they wanted it. Forcing the Bengals to punt at the two-minute warning, Dallas was in a state of euphoria when Nick Vigil crashed in and got his hands on the kick.

Only for things to turn into heartbreak when cornerback Amani Oruwariye tried to catch the bouncing ball, giving the Bengals a fresh set of downs. Burrow soonafter found Ja’Marr Chase for the winning score and NFL fans took to Twitter to share their disbelief.
