Duke basketball strengthens hold atop 2025 recruiting rankings after Henderson commitment

Following the commitment of Shelton Henderson, Duke remained the No. 1 class for the 2025 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports.

Duke basketball coach [autotag]Jon Scheyer[/autotag] and his program received yet another commitment on Saturday when five-star forward Shelton Henderson joined the Blue Devils’ 2025 recruiting class.

As a result, Duke remained atop the 247Sports’ team recruiting rankings for the Class of 2025.

Henderson is the 15th overall player and the third-ranked small forward in the 247Sports player rankings, meaning all four of Scheyer’s commitments rank within the top 21.

The two most notable members of the class are the Boozer twins, led by No. 2 overall player Cameron Boozer and No. 21 overall player and fourth-ranked point guard Cayden Boozer. Power forward Nikolas Khamenia (No. 19) joined them in late October.

“Duke has been my dream school since I started watching basketball,” Henderson said in a story from 247Sports’ Brandon Jenkins. “I liked Coach Scheyer, Coach Lucas, and the environment. Both coaches told me what they see in me. They feel I can come in and fit right away.”

“I like the atmosphere that they have and the players that they have sent to the NBA. That is my dream, so if they can do it with them, they can do with me.”

The Blue Devils sit ahead of the Kentucky Wildcats, Connecticut Huskies, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and LSU Tigers in the 2025 team rankings. Scheyer also finished with the No. 1 class in 2022 and 2024.

Five-star 2025 forward Shelton Henderson commits to Duke basketball over Texas, Louisville

The Duke Blue Devils picked up their fourth 2025 commitment on Saturday when five-star forward Shelton Henderson announced his decision.

Duke basketball added a fourth player to its 2025 recruiting class on Saturday when Shelton Henderson, a five-star small forward from Texas, announced his commitment.

Henderson, who plays for Bellaire High School, averaged 21.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.9 steals, and 1.4 blocks as a junior to lead his team in every category. As the 15th overall player in 247Sports’ 2025 player rankings, he becomes the third five-star member of Duke’s 2025 class and the 14th five-star prospect who’s committed to Jon Scheyer since the Class of 2022.

“A physical specimen from the wing position who arguably has the best long-term tools in the national class,” 247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins wrote in his scouting report. “He operates as a playmaking forward who is loaded with intangibles that are off the charts.”

Duke associate head coach Jai Lucas, who also attended Bellaire High School and was selected a McDonald’s All-American before his graduation in 2007, visited Henderson in person last month.

Henderson picked the Blue Devils over the Texas Longhorns and Louisville Cardinals.

At the start of October, Scheyer and his staff didn’t have a single commitment from the 2025 class. Cameron and Cayden Boozer, twin brothers from Florida who are both five-star players, announced their joint commitment on October 11 before four-star forward Nikolas Khamenia picked Duke over the UCLA Bruins and Gonzaga Bulldogs on (Tuesday).

Cameron, the taller of the Boozer brothers, is the second-ranked player in the class, and he’s routinely credited as the player with the highest floor in the country. He stands 6-foot-9, one inch taller than Khamenia, and Henderson compliments that duo as a playmaking wing. Cayden Boozer, who still measures out at 6-foot-4, is the dominant ball-handling guard in the class.

Five-star 2025 basketball prospect includes Duke Blue Devils among final three schools

Shelton Henderson, one of 247Sports’ top 15 basketball prospects in the Class of 2025, revealed his top three schools on Thursday.

Duke basketball coach [autotag]Jon Scheyer[/autotag] appears to be closing in on more five-star additions to his roster.

Shelton Henderson, a five-star small forward and 247Sports’ No. 15 player in the Class of 2025, narrowed his recruiting race down to the Duke Blue Devils, the Texas Longhorns, and the Louisville Cardinals on Thursday.

A 6-foot-6 wing from Bellaire High School in Texas, Henderson averaged 21.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for the Cardinals. He also paced the roster in assists (3.9), steals (2.9), and blocks (1.4).

“A physical specimen from the wing position who arguably has the best long-term tools in the national class,” 247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins wrote in his scouting report. “Henderson has the build to overpower defenders on his attack and can draw fouls with ease…He has a tremendous feel for the game on the offensive end with clear shooting potential.”

Scheyer and his staff don’t yet have a commitment from the Class of 2025, but associate head coach Jai Lucas (who also played for Bellaire High School) visited Henderson at school at the end of September.

Henderson’s decision could also hinge upon the Boozer brothers, Cameron and Cayden, who are set to announce their commitment on Friday. The twin sons of Duke basketball legend Carlos Boozer are reportedly deciding between the Blue Devils and the Miami Hurricanes.

2025 Duke basketball target Shelton Henderson schedules Duke official visit, per report

Shelton Henderson, a top-30 prospect in the Class of 2025, will reportedly take a visit with the Duke basketball program in September.

The Duke basketball program will host one of its 2025 targets this fall.

According to a Thursday report from League Ready’s Sam Kayser, Shelton Henderson will take an official visit with the Blue Devils from September 27-29.

Henderson, the 19th-ranked recruit in the class in 247Sports’ rankings and a top-five small forward in his year, posted through social media that the Blue Devils offered him on June 11. The 6-foot-6 Texas native has earned praise for his athleticism and ceiling, and 247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins wrote that he “arguably has the best long-term tools in the national class” in his scouting report.

Henderson will also take a visit with Louisville, another ACC power that is undergoing a coaching change after a disastrous 2023-24 season, about a month earlier. His offer list also includes LSU, Texas, Houston, Texas A&M, and DePaul.

Duke coach Jon Scheyer just welcomed his six freshmen from the 2024 recruiting class to Durham earlier this week, but the Blue Devils don’t have a 2025 commit on the board yet.

Kentucky basketball reaches out to 2025 recruit Shelton Henderson

Top 50 recruit Shelton Henderson has been contacted by Kentucky basketball.

With a very good coaching staff in place, Mark Pope and Kentucky basketball are diving into the 2025 recruiting class head first. A number of targets have been identified already, and forward Shelton Henderson is now on the list as well.

Henderson is a four-star forward out of Texas, and is currently ranked 51st overall by 247sports. He’s 6’6″ and 220 lbs which makes him a physical wing player that will make him difficult to guard for smaller players.

Former Baylor assistant Alvin Brooks was a huge addition to Pope’s staff, and he’s the one who contacted Henderson. Henderson had this to say:

The new staff at Kentucky just hit me up. It was Coach Brooks from Baylor. He recruited me at Baylor, so he hit me up to let me know they are going to be watching me.

It remains way to early to predict who will sign with Kentucky from the 2025 recruiting class. However, it’s exciting to see that Pope and his staff are out there and going after the best that the class has to offer.

Shelton Henderson breaks down Rutgers basketball offer, talks visits

Rutgers basketball recently offered Shelton Henderson, a guard from Texas.

Shelton Henderson was offered by Rutgers men’s basketball last week, giving the Texas guard his first Big Ten offer. He now begins the process of getting to know the program as well as head coach Steve Pikiell’s staff.

A 6-foot-5 guard from Bellaire High School (Bellaire, TX), Henderson has been offered by programs such as Arkansas State, Houston, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU and Texas A&M, added the Scarlet Knights. Bellaire went 17-8 last season.

He is a class of 2025 recruit.

In talking with Rutgers Wire on Wednesday, Henderson gave an update on his recruitment. He discussed where things stand right now following his Rutgers offer last week.

“They came to one of my games at Peach Jam and I played really well and after the game they talked to my mom for a pretty long time,” Henderson told Rutgers Wire.

“And they talked about how they liked my game and physicality and later that day coach Knight (assistant coach Brandin Knight) would be the one to offer me.”

Henderson admits he is in the early process of learning about Rutgers and the program.

“I don’t really know too much but I know that they are good at developing their players and they are in a great conference with good competition,” Henderson said.

He plans on taking unofficial visits soon to Houston, Texas and LSU. A visit to Rutgers is something he would like to do but he is uncertain about scheduling that one.

As for where things currently stand in his recruitment, Henderson said three programs have been showing him the most love right now. Two of the three are in his home state.

“I would say (the) University of Houston, TCU, and UCF are on me the hardest,” Henderson said.

“And SMU has been consistent.”

Rutgers basketball has a 2024 recruiting class that currently features five-star [autotag]Airious ‘Ace’ Bailey[/autotag]. It is the second-highest-ranked class in the nation.

Running the floor well, Henderson attacks the rum. He moves fluidly in transition. He pulls up well and has a nice mid-range game.

Confident on the dribble, Henderson possesses a nice ability to create his own shot.

The 2024 recruiting class for Rutgers is very strong and is ranked second in the nation. The group is headlined by five-star Airious ‘Ace’ Bailey, the second-highest-ranked recruit in the nation.
