Shedeur Sanders cements himself as top QB in 2025 NFL Draft

Shedeur Sanders cements himself as top QB in 2025 NFL Draft with a commanding performance against Utah

It was yet another elite performance on the season for Shedeur Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes offense as he showed the ability once again to direct and dominate at every level of the quarterback position. This has been a theme all season long for Sanders, who continues to show why he is one of the best prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Sanders was near perfect on Saturday against the Utah Utes in what was ultimately a complete blowout. Sanders posted 30 completions on 41 attempts, 340 yards, and 3 passing touchdowns in a surgical-like performance for the young star. While Sanders did have an interception at the start of the game from a tipped ball, he was darn near flawless after that point, leading his team to a dominant win, which puts the Buffaloes closer to the playoffs.

Throughout the year, Sanders has shown all the makings of an NFL-caliber signal caller. With an elite football IQ, top-level accuracy, solid arm strength, and a continuing progression in his mastery of the position, Sanders is clearly the top quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft at this point.

Shedeur Sanders throws TD pass on fourth-and-five for Colorado

Utah jumped so Colorado had a free play. Shedeur Sanders took advantage.

The Colorado quarterback threw a deep ball for Will Sheppard, who made the catch for the Buffaloes touchdown.

The play covered 40 yards. After the PAT, the Buffaloes led 7-3.

The lead was bumped to 14-3 on a 76-yard punt return by LaJohntay Wester.

Deion Sanders’ vow could complicate Giants’ 2025 NFL draft plans

Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders could be an obstacle to any plans the New York Giants may have about drafting his son Shedeur.

The New York Giants are in line to select second overall in the 2025 NFL draft and will likely be in a position to select a top quarterback.

If they plan on taking Deion Sanders’ son Shedeur, they might want to make sure Papa approves first.

The younger Sanders is high on the list of quarterbacks in next year’s draft class. He plays at the University of Colorado, where his Hall of Fame dad is the head coach.

If the “wrong team” selects Shadeur, Deion appears to be ready to put his thumb on the scale and steer him away.

“Yeah, but I’m not gonna do it publicly, I’d do it privately,” Sanders said this week in an interview on Fox Sports 1. “I’m going to be a dad until the cows come home, and with [Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter] as well.”

The question is, are the Giants one of those “wrong” teams?

We likely won’t know until we get closer to the draft in April, but Deion is sending some salvos across the bow of any team that he deems unsatisfactory for his talented son.

Shadeur is predicted to go high in the first round, possibly in the top five. Teams that select that high in the draft are there for a reason — they’re not very good. The Giants fall into that category.

History isn’t on the Giants’ side in this scenario, and they know it. In 2004, they benefited from such an instance when Archie Manning told the San Diego Chargers not to draft his son Eli.

The Chargers defied the elder Manning, selected Eli anyway and then shopped him around. Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi quickly swooped in. You know the rest.

Would Deion Sanders step in if Browns draft Shedeur?

Deion Sanders tells FS1 that he will privately step in if the wrong team drafts his son Shedeur. Would they say no the Cleveland Browns?

Would Deion Sanders really prohibit his son, Shedeur Sanders, from being drafted by the Cleveland Browns?

The Browns are looking for their future quarterback after the fans booed an injured Deshaun Watson. The search may be more difficult after Deion Sanders told the hosts of FS1’s Speak, that Deion would step in if the wrong team drafts his son, Shedeur Sanders.

Shedeur Sanders will likely be the consensus best quarterback in the draft class. He is a cerebral quarterback with a good arm and above-average mobility. Sanders can create plays in the pocket or out of the pocket.

Sanders has improved every facet of his game over the past season, and he seems like a player who loves to be challenged. All teams will covet him during the draft. The Browns will strongly consider Sanders, who will likely be my top target for the team.

Deion Sanders expounded on what a right team could look like. He wants an organization to be patient with Shedeur and a coach to understand what type of quarterback his son is. Deion didn’t bash any teams and said he would step in privately.

It’s hard to imagine that the Browns are a team that the Sanders family has in mind. Some quarterback-needy teams, including the New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders, are in big markets. Sanders is a true showman, the family has marketed their college football journey to great success. Sanders may want to keep the show going and join his son in the NFL. Sanders has revitalized a sleeping football giant at the University of Colorado. However, he’s yet to establish a presence on the recruiting trail. He may leave college football with his son.

Cleveland doesn’t offer the Sanders family the glitz and glamor of a large market. However, the Browns can offer them more answers on the football side. Head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry can offer them stability and a tailor-made offense — if they survive the season.

Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders go 1-2 in latest USA TODAY Sports mock draft

Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders went 1-2 in USA TODAY Sports’ latest NFL mock draft

We’re about five months away from the 2025 NFL draft and it’s becoming increasingly apparent that Colorado will have two players selected early in the first round.

Some NFL draft analysts even project the Buffs to produce the top two overall picks. In USA TODAY Sports’ latest mock draft, cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter went No. 1 to the Jacksonville Jaguars and quarterback Shedeur Sanders followed by going No. 2 to the New York Giants.

Here’s some of what USA TODAY Sports writer Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz wrote on Hunter’s potential fit with the Jags:

Even though he could be a shutdown corner for Jacksonville’s league-worst defense, the smart money is on the Heisman Trophy front-runner going the receiver route given the way the market at the position has exploded. That shouldn’t dissuade the Jaguars at all, as Hunter is still the kind of transcendent talent who can team with stellar 2024 first-rounder Brian Thomas Jr. to get Trevor Lawrence’s development back on track after what’s shaping up to be another lost season.

Sanders’ NFL draft situation is a little more complicated due to his position. Earlier this week, Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders told FS1’s “Speak” that he’d prefer his son Shedeur to land with an NFL team that can “handle the quarterback that he is.”

Shedeur Sanders named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after four-touchdown performance

Shedeur Sanders earned a weekly award following his massive game at Texas Tech

Colorado football quarterback Shedeur Sanders was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday following his stellar performance in the Buffs’ 41-27 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders over the weekend.

Sanders completed 30 of his 43 throws for 291 yards and three passing touchdowns. After a shaky start for Colorado’s offense in Lubbock, the projected first-round NFL draft pick finished with a 149.6 passer rating.

Adjusting for sacks, Sanders ran for 39 yards, including a go-ahead 7-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter.

The weekly conference award marks Sanders’ first since Week 1 of last season when Colorado was still in the Pac-12. He becomes the fourth different Buffalo to win a weekly Big 12 award this season, joining wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter (Week 3, 9), placekicker Alejandro Mata (Week 8) and running back Isaiah Augustave (Week 9).

Shedeur Sanders clarifies class registration comments: ‘I’m graduating early’

Shedeur Sanders made his plans clear for this spring

In a Well Off Media YouTube video posted earlier this week, Colorado football quarterback Shedeur Sanders reaffirmed that he plans on declaring for the 2025 NFL draft.

After an assistant coach reminded CU players to register for spring semester classes, Sanders quickly showed his humor and confidence. “Classes? I’m going to the league,” Sanders said with a smile.

Sanders, a senior who spent his first two college seasons at Jackson State, has thrown for 2,591 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions this fall while leading the 6-2 Buffs to bowl eligibility. Against Cincinnati last time out, Sanders completed a season-high 83.3% of his passes and threw for two passing touchdowns.

“After last game, y’all not gonna see me (next year),” Sanders added in the video.

Most NFL draft projections have Sanders being selected as either the first or second quarterback.

On Monday, Sanders clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that he plans on graduating early: “I’m graduating early btw,” Sanders wrote in reference to his viral class registration comments.

Top QB declares for 2025 NFL draft

Shedeur Sanders is in the mix to be the top quarterback off the board in the 2025 NFL draft.

By the time the 2025 NFL draft rolls around, there are a number of quarterbacks who will be vying to be the first quarterback off the board. One of those quarterbacks who made it more or less official is Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders informally declared for the 2025 NFL draft when he was asked about registering for classes in the spring and he replied, “Man, I’m going to the league.”

Sanders joined his dad at Colorado when Deion became the head coach.

Many project Sanders to be a top-five pick in the first round. Personally, we expect Sanders to go high but could definitely be overdrafted due to so many quarterback-needy teams. Sanders is far from a finished product, and we don’t expect to see a ton of growth from him on that Buffaloes team, so it only makes sense he maximizes his momentum now.

Shedeur Sanders response to Colorado class registration: ‘I’m going to the league’

Shedeur Sanders doesn’t plan on being around Boulder for classes next semester

The Colorado football team gathered around and was informed that everyone needed to remember it was time to register for next semester classes in Boulder.

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders didn’t seem too enthused about signing up for credits. In fact, he had quite the quip as a response.

“I’m going to the league,” the QB said. “I know after last game, man, you’re not going to see me.”

Saints scout two of the 2025 draft’s best prospects at Colorado

The Saints stopped at Colorado’s campus to scout two of the 2025 draft’s best prospects. They’re in position to draft Travis Hunter or Shedeur Sanders, but will they?

We’ll see how the standings shake out after this week’s round of NFL games, but right now the New Orleans Saints are slotted in at the fifth overall pick in the 2025 draft after their 2-6 start to the season. That’s prime position to select a top prospect like Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter or standout quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

And last week the Saints were one of five NFL teams who stopped by Colorado’s campus in Boulder to scout the Buffaloes. Hunter is seen as a franchise-altering talent at either wide receiver or cornerback, and Sanders is competing with Miami’s Cameron Ward to be the first passer selected. It makes sense that the Saints would be keeping tabs on each of them.

But those aren’t Colorado’s only NFL prospects. Wide receiver Will Sheppard and safety Shilo Sanders should both be drafted in the middle rounds or early on Day 3. Another wideout, Jimmy Horn Jr., is a rising star, too.

Campus visits like this are common for NFL teams, so don’t read too deeply into it. They’re often used for information-gathering so scouts can fill out their reports after meeting with coaches, trainers, and even academic counselors. But if the Saints keep losing and end up in position to pick a playmaker like Hunter or Sanders? Well. Stranger things have happened.
