Texas A&M reliever Shane Sdao speaks to media after doubleheader vs. No. 17 Georgia

“An SEC weekend is always a big weekend so it always feels good whenever (head coach Jim Schlossnagle) comes up to me and tells me that.”

After the No. 1 Texas A&M baseball team split a doubleheader with No. 17 Georgia on Saturday, sophomore left-handed reliever Shane Sdao spoke to the media at Blue Bell Park about head coach Jim Schlossnagle knowing he’d play a big part in the three-game SEC series.

“Yeah, he brings it up every once in a while. But I would say that he tells me how much trust he has in me, because obviously this is a big weekend. An SEC weekend is always a big weekend so it always feels good whenever he comes up to me and tells me that,” Sdao recalled. “It’s very amazing whenever I can do something like that, it’s very good for the confidence, 100%.

“I would say honestly just my competitiveness (was working best for me today). I wouldn’t say I had a whole lot going my way. I never really have a lot of feel in any of my pitches but I made it work.”

Texas A&M Baseball’s opening weekend pitchers have been announced

Texas A&M opens its 2024 baseball season hosting McNeese State this weekend, and we now know who will take the mound all three days.

Texas A&M Baseball’s 2024 season begins on Friday, Feb. 16, as head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s most talented squad in his tenure will take the field to host McNeese State for their opening weekend series in Blue Bell Park.

Throughout the offseason, we at Aggies Wire have touched on A&M’s elite batting lineup, led by returning All-SEC outfielder Jace LaViolette and former Stanford OF Branden Montgomery. Still, the Aggies starting pitching has many of us eager to see what they’ll bring to the table throughout the season.

On Thursday, Schlossnagle announced Texas A&M’s three starting pitchers for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Here is that lineup:

  • Friday: LHP redshirt sophomore Ryan Prager
  • Saturday: LHP sophomore Justin Lamkin
  • Sunday: LHP sophomore Shane Sdao

It’s no surprise that all three young men have been chosen to lead the way to start off the season, as the roster is loaded with left-handed pitching talent, also including junior Troy Wansing, freshman Kaiden Wilson, and senior Evan Aschenbeck, who we will see throughout the season.
