PFL’s Shamil Musaev reflects on upset of Logan Storley: ‘A bad day for him and a good day for me’

Shamil Musaev became the first to stop Logan Storley, scoring an upset victory at 2024 PFL 3 in Chicago.

CHICAGO – Oddsmakers didn’t favor [autotag]Shamil Musaev[/autotag] to get the job done against Logan Storley at 2024 PFL 3, but the Russian welterweight is likely to find himself as a favorite for the remainder of the season.

In a matchup between PFL debuting fighters, Musaev (17-0-1 MMA, 1-0 PFL) became the first to stop former interm Bellator champ Storley (15-3 MMA, 0-1 PFL) by landing heavy punches. Musaev had Storley in danger late in the first round, and continued his momentum to get the finish just 27 seconds into Round 2.

“Some people had me as the underdog. I don’t know, maybe they didn’t do enough research,” Musaev told reporters during a post-fight news conference.

Musaev kept his unbeaten record intact and claimed five points, good enough for the current No. 3 spot in the welterweight regular season standings behind six-point earners Don Madge and Murad Ramazanov.

Musaev knows more work is ahead to get through the season, and isn’t putting too much stock into the result of the fight against Storley.

“I guess it was just a bad day for him and a good day for me,” Musaev said about Storley. “I landed perfectly.”

2024 PFL 3 video: Shamil Musaev pulverizes Logan Storley with violent knockout blows

Shamil Musaev stole the show at PFL in Chicago as he bashed former Bellator interim champion Logan Storley until consciousness disappeared.

After a quiet off-season signing, [autotag]Shamil Musaev[/autotag] loudly announced his arrival Friday in PFL.

At 2024 PFL 3, Musaev (17-0-1) brutalized former Bellator interim welterweight champion [autotag]Logan Storley[/autotag] (15-3) en route to a knockout at 0:27 of Round 2. The fight took place at Wintrust Arena in Chicago and earned Musaev five points in the regular season standings.

Musaev showed strong and accurate striking skills from the get-go. In the latter half of Round 1, Musaev nearly finished Storley on multiple occasions. Storley was rocked, dropped, and hurt but survived to see the between-rounds stool.

The minute break did not reverse the momentum, however, as Musaev landed a wicked two-punch combination 15 seconds into Round 2. Storley slammed to the canvas and Musaev pounced.

As Storley tried to work up to his feet, Musaev unloaded brutal uppercuts. The blows left Storley unconscious, facedown on the canvas.

Musaev, 30, was a standout for KSW among other promotions prior to his PFL signing. In the fight previous to Friday’s Musaev finished UFC alumnus Alexey Kunchenko with a spinning back kick and punches in 84 seconds.

Storley, 31, has lost two of his most recent three bouts but is 4-2 in his most recent six.

KSW announces ‘ethically justifiable’ decision to cancel Russian fighter’s bout amid invasion of Ukraine

Shamil Musaev, an unbeaten former M-1 standout, won’t compete on March 19th at KSW 68 as originally planned.

MMA promotion KSW announced Monday that it has canceled a Russian fighter’s upcoming bout in protest of his home country’s invasion of Ukraine.

[autotag]Shamil Musaev[/autotag], an unbeaten former M-1 standout, won’t compete on March 19th at KSW 68 as originally planned, a decision KSW considers “ethically justifiable” as Russia wages war against neighboring Ukraine.

“Due to the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine, KSW has made a tough, albeit ethically justifiable, decision to cancel Russian fighter Shamil Musaev’s fight, which was scheduled for KSW 68 on March 19th in Radom,” KSW said in a statement.

Poland, which is home to KSW, has been a staunch ally of Ukraine. Since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the military assault last week, tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees have been welcomed to Poland, which borders Ukraine to the west.

Musaev’s (15-0-1) fight cancellation is another example of Russian athletes dealing with consequences because of Putin’s decision to wage war. The International Olympic Committee has recommended banning Russian athletes from international competition. FIFA has taken measures against Russia over the invasion of Ukraine.

Shamil Musaev, Uros Jurisic issued hefty fines for post-fight brawl at KSW 58

Shamil Musaev and Uros Jurisic have been fined a percentage of their KSW 58 fight purses for getting physical after their bout.

[autotag]Shamil Musaev[/autotag] and [autotag]Uros Jurisic[/autotag] have been issued fines by the KSW brass for the collective roles they played in the melee that occurred after their fight Jan. 30.

Following a solid and competitive three-round fight on the main card of KSW 58, Musaev (14-0) was declared the winner by unanimous decision to remain undefeated against Jurisic (11-1), who was handed his first professional loss.

Jurisic’s team showed some displeasure with the decision in the immediate aftermath, but just when it seemed cooler heads were about to prevail, Jurisic shoved his hands into the face of Musaev’s coach.

That prompted a reaction from Musaev, who went over over to Jurisic, said something, wrapped him up in a body lock and slammed him to the mat before unleashing a flurry of punches before security and team members could break them up.

After reviewing the tape of the incident from all angles, the KSW brass agreed Jurisic’s physicality with the coach was unwarranted, but Musaev’s slam was a clear escalator.

As a result, Musaev has been fined 50 percent of his purse, and his cornerman, KSW middleweight Abus Magomedo, has been “banned from fighting for six months and banned from cornering for 12 months,” per a statement from the promotion.

Jurisic, for his part, has been fined 30 percent of his fight purse for his role.

In addition, both men have had their “Fight of the Night” bonuses withheld by the organization.

And finally, according to the statement, “all the unauthorized persons, who entered the cage after the fight was over, are banned from taking part in the KSW events as members of fighters’ teams.”

KSW will not keep the money redeemed from the various fines to Musaev or Jurisic. Instead, it will be donated to the crowdfunding pages for a pair of sick young girls – Laura Paczuła and Pola Omielańczuk – the latter of which is the daughter of Polish MMA veteran Daniel Omielanczuk.

The statement from KSW ensured to note that the promotion “would like to emphasize that unsportsmanlike behavior and violations of the federation’s rules by the fighters or members of their teams is completely unacceptable.”

KSW 58 results: Daniel Torres claims featherweight title with first-round upset of Salahdine Parnasse

Daniel Torres’ scored a rather awkward knockout of Salahdine Parnasse to claim featherweight gold in the KSW 58 main event.

[autotag]Daniel Torres[/autotag] became the new KSW featherweight champion on Saturday, when he stopped [autotag]Salahdine Parnasse[/autotag] less than two minutes into the first round.

Torres’ (12-4) awkward right hook caught Parnasse (14-1-1) on the top of the head and put him down to spell an end to the contest, forcing a change of ownership with the 145-pound belt at the 1:49 mark of Round 1 in the KSW 58 main event.

KSW 58 took place at an undisclosed venue in Lodz, Poland and streamed via online pay-per-view.

After exchanging some blows early in the fight, Parnasse got slightly too aggressive coming in on Torres with a combination, and it cost him.

Torres looked to counter with a right hook, and as Parnasse ducked, the lower part of Torres’ bicep caught him on the side of the head and dropped Parnasse face-first to the canvas.

Parnasse, despite not being out cold, was unquestionably hurt by the glancing blow, and it was enough for the referee to jump in and stop the fight.

With that, Torres, who closed as a high as a +500 betting underdog, was deemed the new KSW featherweight champ, while Parnasse was stunned after taking his first career loss.

KSW 58 video: Shamil Musaev kicks off brawl with post-win slam on Uros Jurisic

Shamil Musaev showed absolutely zero class in the wake of his victory over Uros Jurisic at KSW 58, instigating a brawl in the process.

[autotag]Shamil Musaev[/autotag] showed absolutely zero class in the wake of his victory over [autotag]Uros Jurisic[/autotag] on Saturday at KSW 58.

Following a solid and competitive three-round fight on the main card of the event, Musaev (14-0) was declared the winner by unanimous decision to remain undefeated against Jurisic (11-1), who was handed his first professional loss.

The scuffle continued, but eventually they were pulled apart and tempers fizzled. Check out what happened in the videos below (via Twitter):

The commentators said on the broadcast that there’s a high probability punishments would be issued to everyone involved from KSW promotors.

As of now, though, nothing has been announced in regard to the situation.

Nevertheless, it was a stain on Musaev’s victory in what was otherwise a solid performance from him against Jurisic.
