The 11 prospects invited to attend the NBA Draft 2022 in the Brooklyn green room so far, per reports

Chet Holmgren, Jabari Smith, and Paolo Banchero are the headliners.

The NBA Draft is one of the most exciting annual events in the league.

Nowhere is that excitement felt more than in the green room, a staging area at Barclays Center in Brooklyn where top prospects are invited to sit with their families as they wait to find out what pro team they will play for once they’re in the NBA.

Mostly, it is a strong predictor of how teams around the league rank top prospects because the invitation list is based on votes from NBA front offices. However, even when a prospect is ranked highly, it can still go poorly on draft night.

Last year, the Spurs selected Josh Primo (who did not receive an invitation to the green room) several picks before many of the players who received green room invitations could hear their names called.

Based on reporting from ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, 11 prospects have received invitations to actually attend the NBA Draft in the green room. Additionally, per Givony, more invitations are expected next week. For what it’s worth, last year, 20 players were invited to sit in the green room.

With all that in mind, here are the players who have received the nod thus far:

Western Conference Executive No. 3 on …

Western Conference Executive No. 3 on Shaedon Sharpe: How the (expletive) can you be the fifth pick in the draft if you haven’t played in a year and a half? It’s not like it’s (James) Wiseman and the guy is 7 feet tall. Show me where the five (-star) shit is. Show me. Western Conference Executive No. 4: (Michael) Porter (Jr.) had those last several games at Missouri (after back surgery). Kevin Porter at USC didn’t play the entire year because he was suspended off and on. This kid, we have nothing but YouTube video to go on. I think you are just taking an absolute swing. And you (have to) have ownership completely behind you in that swing, as well as your head coach and that staff. You gotta be patient, and you better have a plan, and everybody’s on board.

League sources have confirmed to The Kings Beat that not only did Sacramento interview Shaedon Sharpe at the Combine, but they either sat down with or attended pro-days for a bevy of projected lottery/first round picks, including Keegan Murray, AJ Griffin, Bennedict Mathurin, Dyson Daniels, Tari Eason, Kendall Brown, Ochai Agbaji, Malaki Branham, Jeremy Sochan, Patrick Baldwin, Nikola Jovic, Mark Williams, Christian Braun, Wendell Moore, Teruavion Smith and Trevion Williams.

Other executives are monitoring Oklahoma City, Charlotte, San Antonio, and Minnesota as potential traders. The Thunder has four picks in the top 34 and can consolidate some of those picks. The Hornets can afford to move one of their first-round picks (13 and 15). The Grizzlies have an established young core ready to take the next step with picks 22 and 29 to dangle as bait. The Spurs (picks 9, 20, 25 and 38) have a surplus of late first-rounders that should be available. The Timberwolves have the No. 19 pick and three picks in the 40-50 range to dangle. The consensus big three of this year’s draft class remains Jabari Smith, Chet Holmgren and Paolo Banchero, with Shaedon Sharpe rising into the top five in the latest aggregate mock draft.
