Ex-Bills player Sergio Brown arrested in connection with mom’s death:

Former Buffalo Bills player Sergio Brown has been arrested in connection to the death of his mother, according to police in suburban Chicago.

Maywood police said Brown, 35, was apprehended in San Diego when he was re-entering the United States from Mexico.

Brown was a person of interest in the case when his mother, Myrtle Brown, was found dead. The 73-year-old was discovered near a creek in mid-September.

Brown himself then was missing for an extended period.

According to CNN, Brown was deported by authorities in Mexico and was then detained upon his return to the U.S. Mexican police reportedly were aware of Brown’s whereabouts in the country but did not deport him until Illinois released an arrest warrant.

Brown is now waiting for extradition to Maywood.

Brown was a defensive back for the Bills in 2016 primarily on special teams. His NFL career included tme with the Patriots, Colts, Jaguars as well, which spanned from 2010 to 2016.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars safety Sergio Brown has been taken into custody in connection with the death of his mother, according to CNN.

Brown’s mother, 73-year-old Myrtle Brown, was found dead near a creek behind her Chicago-area home in mid-September. According to reports, medical examiners said that Brown died from injuries related to an assault and the death was ruled a homicide.

With authorities looking for him, Sergio Brown traveled to Mexico where he spent about a month before he was deported earlier this week and taken into custody in San Diego, according to CNN. He’s reportedly in the process of being transferred from California to Illinois.

Prior to getting deported, Brown posted videos on Instagram saying that he thought his mother was on vacation, that he had been kidnapped twice by the FBI, and that reports about the situation were “fake news.”

Brown, 35, appeared in 15 games and started four during a one-year stint with the Jaguars in 2015. The defensive back also spent time with the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and Buffalo Bills.

Family members reportedly contacted authorities after they couldn’t find 73-year-old Myrtle Brown. When police arrived for a well-being check, they found her body by a creek near her Chicago area home. According to WBBM NewsRadio, medical examiners determined she died from injuries related to an assault and the death was ruled a homicide.

In a post on Instagram, Sergio Brown’s brother, Nick, asked for help in locating him.

“My brother Sergio is still missing,” Nick Brown wrote. “If anyone knows where he is I want him to know that I love you and please come home.”

Brown, 35, spent two seasons with the New England Patriots and three with the Indianapolis Colts before joining the Jaguars in 2015. He played in 15 games with the team and started four before finishing his NFL career in 2016 with the Buffalo Bills.

The Maywood Police Department is asking anyone with information on Brown’s location to contact police.
