Former Buffalo Bills player Sergio Brown has been arrested in connection to the death of his mother, according to police in suburban Chicago.
Maywood police said Brown, 35, was apprehended in San Diego when he was re-entering the United States from Mexico.
Brown was a person of interest in the case when his mother, Myrtle Brown, was found dead. The 73-year-old was discovered near a creek in mid-September.
Brown himself then was missing for an extended period.
According to CNN, Brown was deported by authorities in Mexico and was then detained upon his return to the U.S. Mexican police reportedly were aware of Brown’s whereabouts in the country but did not deport him until Illinois released an arrest warrant.
Brown is now waiting for extradition to Maywood.
Brown was a defensive back for the Bills in 2016 primarily on special teams. His NFL career included tme with the Patriots, Colts, Jaguars as well, which spanned from 2010 to 2016.
