Check out the super-slow motion highlights from UFC 277, including clips of Amanda Nunes’ title-winning performance against Julianna Peña.

[autotag]Amanda Nunes[/autotag] exacted her revenge against [autotag]Julianna Peña[/autotag] in dominant fashion.

Nunes (22-5 MMA, 15-2 UFC) battered Peña (11-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) to reclaim her bantamweight title in their rematch, which headlined UFC 277 this past Saturday at American Airlines Center in Dallas. Peña hung tough by constantly throwing up submissions off her back, but ultimately was bloodied and battered for the majority of the fight.

In the co-main event, [autotag]Brandon Moreno[/autotag] (20-6-2 MMA, 8-3-2 UFC) landed a big body kick finish of Kai Kara-France (24-10 MMA, 7-3 UFC) to capture the interim flyweight title.

You can watch it all unfold in super-slow motion in the UFC 277 “Fight Motion” video highlights above.

Also featured are highlights of [autotag]Drew Dober[/autotag]’s body shot knockout of Rafael Alves, [autotag]Magomed Ankalaev[/autotag]’s TKO of Anthony Smith, [autotag]Alexandre Pantoja[/autotag]’s statement submission of Alex Perez, [autotag]Sergei Pavlovich[/autotag]’s quick finish of Derek Lewis and more.

Video: What’s the ceiling for rising UFC heavyweight Sergei Pavlovich?

Sergei Pavlovich picked up arguably the biggest win of his career when he took out former title challenger Derrick Lewis at UFC 277.

[autotag]Sergei Pavlovich[/autotag] picked up arguably the biggest win of his career when he took out former heavyweight title challenger Derrick Lewis at UFC 277.

Pavlovich (16-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) stopped Lewis (26-10 MMA, 17-8 UFC) with a first-round TKO in less than a minute, and though there was controversy around how quickly referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the fight, there’s no denying Pavlovich put some fast offense on Lewis and put him on the canvas with his fists.

At 16-1 with 13 finishes, and 11 in the first round, who should Pavlovich fight next on his ascension up the UFC’s heavyweight ladder – and what’s his ceiling?

That’s what we asked our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Matthew Wells, Brian “Goze” Garcia and Danny Segura, along with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia.

USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, Aug. 2: Amanda Nunes reclaims No. 1

Amanda Nunes is back on top of the women’s bantamweight division.

The women’s bantamweight division has a new name at the top, although it’s a familiar one.

In the main event of UFC 277, [autotag]Amanda Nunes[/autotag] dominated Julianna Pena over the course of 25 minutes. Whether she knocked Pena off her feet multiple times from strikes or dominated top position on the mat with hard ground and pound, Nunes turned in one of the most complete performances of her career to reclaim the bantamweight title and the No. 1 spot in the rankings.

A couple of other big moves occurred in the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions following the pay-per-view event.

[autotag]Magomed Ankalaev[/autotag] picked up a big win over Anthony Smith, extending his win streak to nine. Entering the week at No. 12, Ankalaev elevates all the way up to No. 6.

At heavyweight, [autotag]Sergei Pavlovich[/autotag] recorded his fourth-straight first-round finish by picking up a TKO win over Derrick Lewis. Pavlovich elevates from the honorable mentions all the way up to No. 5.

Spinning Back Clique: Regained titles for Nunes, Moreno at UFC 277, PFL playoffs, more

“Spinning Back Clique,” MMA Junkie’s weekly show, discusses Amanda Nunes and Brandon Moreno’s title wins at UFC 277 and more.

Check out this week’s “Spinning Back Clique,” MMA Junkie’s weekly show that takes a spin through the biggest topics in mixed martial arts.

Our panel of Matthew Wells, Brian “Goze” Garcia and Danny Segura discuss five topics with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia.

  • [autotag]Amanda Nunes[/autotag] dominated Julianna Peña to recapture the women’s bantamweight title in the UFC 277 main event – though Peña got off plenty of offense, too. After seeing the second fight, was Peña’s first win over Nunes, a submission at UFC 269, merely a fluke? Do we need to see a third title fight between them? And if so, how soon?
  • [autotag]Brandon Moreno[/autotag] won the interim flyweight title at UFC 277. Afterward, champ [autotag]Deiveson Figueiredo[/autotag], who is on the shelf a while longer, was brought into the cage for a faceoff and confrontation with Moreno. It was very civil and both fighters showed good sportsmanship, but UFC president Dana White said he had second thoughts about it because it took some shine away from Moreno. So are we fans of those immediate post-fight moments, or should they go away?
  • [autotag]Sergei Pavlovich[/autotag] picked up arguably the biggest win of his career when he took out former heavyweight title challenger Derrick Lewis at UFC 277. He did it in less than a minute, and though there was controversy around how quickly referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the fight, there’s no denying Pavlovich put some fast offense on Lewis and put him on the canvas with his fists. At 16-1 with 13 finishes, and 11 in the first round, who should Pavlovich fight next on his ascension up the UFC’s heavyweight ladder – and what’s his ceiling?
  • Amanda Nunes recaptured the UFC women’s bantamweight title and now is a dual champion again. But what’s going on with her featherweight belt? There doesn’t seem to be an obviously next challenger for that title – at leats not one in the UFC with Kayla Harrison in the PFL and Cris Cyborg in Bellator. Should the UFC keep 145 around for the women, or should they put it on the shelf?
  • The PFL’s playoffs start up this week with semifinal fights in the lightweight and light heavyweight divisions. The highest profile fight features former UFC and WEC champ [autotag]Anthony Pettis[/autotag], who meets [autotag]Stevie Ray[/autotag] in a rematch after Ray upset Pettis in their second regular season fight. Who do we like in this first set of playoff bouts in New York?

Sergei Pavlovich believes UFC 277 win over Derrick Lewis ‘was a good stoppage’

Sergei Pavlovich has no problem with the stoppage in his TKO win over Derrick Lewis at UFC 277.

DALLAS – [autotag]Sergei Pavlovich[/autotag] thinks he got a clean and fair win against [autotag]Derrick Lewis[/autotag], free of controversy.

The UFC heavyweight contender doesn’t find the referee stoppage in his 55-second TKO win over Lewis to have been premature. Pavlovich (16-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) defeated Lewis on the main card of Saturday’s UFC 277, wobbling him early and then swarming him with punches as Lewis stumbled down to the canvas. “The Black Beast” got quickly back to his feet once the fight was stopped and complained about the referee’s decision.

So did many observers on social media, as well as the commentary team questioning it. UFC president Dana White also wasn’t a fan of the stoppage.

Pavlovich, however, finds it to be fair and believes Lewis was on his way to be completely out.

“The referee is a pro, and I think he did his job, and he did his job well,” Pavlovich told reporters at the UFC 277 post-fight press conference through an interpreter. “I don’t have any questions about the stoppage. I think it was a good stoppage.”

Pavlovich later added, “Yeah, I saw it in his eyes that he was losing it, that he was going away a little bit, so I knew that I had to press on and finish it right there.”

[lawrence-related id=2567696,2567206]

Pavlovich is on a four-fight winning streak with victories over Marcelo Golm, Maurice Greene, Shamil Abdurakhimov, and now Lewis. This was the second appearance of 2022 for the Russian fighter, as he had previously competed in March at the UFC’s fight night event in London.

Pavlovich is unsure when he’d like to return. For now, the 30-year-old wants to take a break from fighting.

“After the London fight, I pretty much didn’t have any rest,” Pavlovich said. “After the London fight, I had four months to prepare for this fight, and that’s what I did. I had no rest, so I need to rest up a little bit and then me and my team will decide what we’re going to do next.”

UFC 277 results: Sergei Pavlovich trucks through Derrick Lewis, who contests stoppage

Derrick Lewis didn’t agree with the way his UFC 277 bout vs. Sergei Pavlovich ended – and let Dan Miragliotta know it.

Whether [autotag]Derrick Lewis[/autotag] likes it or not, [autotag]Sergei Pavlovich[/autotag] will go down as the winner Saturday at UFC 277.

In the early seconds of their UFC 277 main card bout, Pavlovich (16-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) stunned Lewis (26-10 MMA, 17-8 UFC) with a series of punches. He got the stoppage from referee Dan Miragliotta at the 0:55 mark, much to the dismay of Lewis and his home-state fans.

Pavlovich drilled Lewis in the head with a series of stunning punches. Lewis retreated while Pavlovich chased him down and continued his barrage. Miragliotta dove in after a sequence in which Lewis landed face down on the canvas. But immediately after Miragliotta stepped in, Lewis protested.

Upon the official decision, the Dallas crowd at American Airlines Center didn’t like it – so much so they drowned out Pavlovich’s post-fight interview.

With the victory, Pavlovich extended his winning streak to four to go with wins in that stretch over Marcelo Golm, Maurice Greene and Shamil Abdurakhimov.

Lewis’ struggles to get into the win column continue. He now has lost three of his most recent four, including back-to-back TKOs to Tai Tuivasa and Pavlovich.
