Brian Kelly praises current group of LSU seniors ahead of final home game

Kelly spoke on the importance of his group of seniors in Year 1.

This senior class has seen a lot of change during their careers at LSU.

Look at a guy like [autotag]Micah Baskerville[/autotag], a fifth-year senior who has played many games for the Tigers. He was a part of the 2019 national championship team. He’s seen LSU at the top of the mountain with [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag], [autotag]Justin Jefferson[/autotag] and coach [autotag]Ed Orgeron[/autotag].

He stayed through the coaching change when it was unknown who the Tigers would choose to be the next head man. Now, he is thriving on an LSU team that has won the SEC West and is headed to Atlanta to play the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs for the SEC Championship.

Kelly had high praise for the buy-in and effort from seniors on this roster like Baskerville.

“And watching them become SEC West champions is so gratifying because they made that choice,” Kelly said. “They could been average, they could’ve been poor. They could’ve just been good. They’ve chosen to be champions by the way they’ve gone to work every day both in the classroom and on the football field. And that, to me, is this senior day — the choices these guys have made have been outstanding.”

LSU will honor Baskerville and 16 other seniors on Saturday as part of the team’s Senior Night festivities before the Tigers take on UAB at 8 p.m. CT in the final game at Tiger Stadium this season.

How it happened: Oregon’s game-winner rims out vs. USC, Ducks lose 70-69

It was almost a magical senior night for the Ducks, but a last-second shot from Will Richardson rimmed out, leaving Oregon with a loss to USC.

It was a game that would have been massive for the Oregon Ducks’ at-large NCAA Tournament hopes, but in the end, they couldn’t quite pull it out.

It wasn’t for a lack of chances, The Ducks had numerous opportunities to win, and they led by 2 late in the game. However, a USC 3 with 11 seconds left but the Trojans up by one, and a game-winner attempt from Will Richardson rimmed out at the buzzer.

Oregon struggled mightily from the floor, going just 6-for-23 from deep, and 15-for-21 at the free throw line.

Oregon isn’t out of the NCAA tournament discussion just yet, as they can boost their resume with a trip to the Washington schools next week. However, it will now take a deep run in the Pac-12 tournament at the very least to make a case.

Here’s how everything went down on Saturday:

Alabama delivers a beatdown to South Carolina 90-71

Alabama defeats South Carolina behind Jaden Shackelford’s 21 points and Jahvon Quinerly’s 20.

Nate Oats’ No. 24 Alabama (19-10, 9-7 Southeastern Conference) basketball squad played perhaps its best game overall tonight against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday evening.

The Crimson Tide defeated South Carolina for the seventh consecutive time, by a final score of 90-71. The Tide jumped out to a 50-27 lead at the half to give the Gamecocks a nearly insurmountable deficit.

Jaden Shackelford got into his rhythm from behind the three-point line in the second half and scored 21 points to lead all Alabama scorers. Jahvon Quinerly followed close behind with 20 points. Both Shackelford and Quinerly each knocked down four three-pointers.

Keon Ellis added 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Alabama. Charles Bediako scored 11 points, and JD Davison added 10.

Alabama started walk-ons Tyler Barnes and Britton Johnson for Senior Night, though the team has one more home game. Neither scored during that stretch but they left with the Tide up 12-5 thanks to a 3-point barrage.

Next up for the Crimson Tide is the final home game of the season against Texas A&M prior to the final game of the regular season against the LSU Tigers.

Watch: Notre Dame volleyball players congratulate trainer on 25 years

Student-athletes wouldn’t be who they are without their teams’ athletic trainers.

Student-athletes wouldn’t be who they are without their teams’ athletic trainers. When one person holds a team’s trainer position for a long time, that person obviously is trustworthy. Notre Dame volleyball trainer Chantel Porter has had her job for the past 25 years, and the time seemed right for the program’s current players to honor her for just that. The following video was released just ahead of the Irish’s Senior Night match against Clemson:

Porter came to the Irish at a time when they made the NCAA Tournament every year, a run that lasted between 1992 and 2006. They also routinely won the conference championship. During this period, the Irish were headed by Debbie Brown, who won 519 matches during her tenure, nearly 400 more than Art Lambert, the next coach on the program’s wins list. To say “Chants”, as she is affectionately called in the video, has seen a lot of success is an understatement, and her players hope she will continue to devote her time to the program for many seasons more.
