Alabama Softball comes up short in semifinal matchup against No. 1 seed Tennessee

The Alabama softball team lost 7-6 on Friday in the semifinals against the No. 1 seed Tennessee. The Tide will now begin to prepare for NCAA Regionals next weekend.

The Alabama softball team dropped Friday’s semifinal matchup against No. 1 seed Tennessee. The Tide lost 7-6 in a tightly-contested matchup with the Volunteers.

Alabama was able to push across four runs in the top of the first inning. A series of walks, wild pitches, and miscues defensively helped the Tide jump out to the early lead.

However, the Volunteers quickly responded with four runs of their own. Tennessee’s Lair Beautae cleared the bases with a grandslam to tie the game up 4-4 after one inning of play.

The Volunteers would take a 7-4 lead after hitting two home runs in the second inning and fourth inning.

Alabama graduate-senior Ashley Prange responded with a two-run home run in the fifth inning to cut the Volunteers lead to 7-6.

Unfortunately, it was not enough for the Tide in the end. Montana Fouts’ absence loomed largely as the Tide pitching staff struggled. Pitchers Alex Salter and Jaala Torrence allowed seven earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched.

Alabama will await to hear its post-season fate on Sunday during the NCAA Selection Show. According to College Sports Madness‘ latest NCAA Tournament projections, the Tide would open up the tournament as the No. 9 overall seed. Meaning, the Tide would host a Regional but not a Super Regional.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama softball program as post-season play continues.

Experts make College Football Playoff semifinal predictions

Who do the experts have moving on to the National Championship?

The college football Bowl Season is upon us, and teams from all across the country will face equal competition at neutral sites for the title of ‘bowl champion’ for a year. However, on Dec. 31, four teams will compete in two bowl games, where the winners will go on to participate in the final game of the season, and one team will leave with a trophy, the other with disappointment.

The two College Football Playoff semifinal games this season are the Cotton Bowl and the Orange Bowl.

No. 1 Alabama will face No. 4 Cincinnati in Arlington, Texas for the Cotton Bowl; and No. 2 Michigan will play No. 3 Georgia in Miami, Florida for the Orange Bowl.

Seven experts from USA TODAY Sports made their predictions for all bowl games this year, including the two semifinal matchups.

For Bulldogs vs. Wolverines, the panel was split. Five of the seven selected Georgia, but two chose Michigan to move on to the National Championship.

In the Crimson Tide vs. Bearcats contest, it was unanimous: Nick Saban and Alabama will move on to play for national championship No. 19 for the program.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover the Crimson Tide leading up to the 2021 Cotton Bowl game against Cincinnati.

WATCH: Suni Lee has perfect routine, advances to semifinals on DWTS

LETS GO SUNI

Suni Lee earned a perfect score Monday and is moving onto the semifinals of Dancing With The Stars.

Lee earned a perfect 10 from each of the four judges after dancing the Samba to “All For You” by Janet Jackson with her partner Sasha Farber.

She was awarded two bonus points for winning a head-to-head dance-off against country singer Jimmie Allen and his partner. That victory gave her 42 out of 40 points for the night and all but ensured she would be one of the final six competitors.

Lee danced a salsa to the Latin version of “Made for Now” by Jackson in the head-to-head dance, which was judged by Bruno Tonioli.

Cowboys’ Darren Woodson again reaches semis for Hall of Fame induction

Darren Woodson makes his fifth appearance as a semifinalist for the 2021 NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame. A look at his career and the group.

Though the NFL was robbed of their Hall of Fame ceremony in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the league is full steam ahead with getting the class of 2021 ready to be enshrined in what very well be Dallas Cowboys heavy.

Former Cowboys safety Darren Woodson and 2015 Ring of Honor inductee is among 25 members to have reached the semifinals of the process to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. For Woodson, it will be the fifth time making it this far as he was a semifinalist in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, and now once again in 2021.

Drafted in the second round of the 1992 NFL draft, Woodson was a part of three championships with the Cowboys. The safety was known for his ability to also play man-to-man coverage, often dropping into the slot to defend opponents receivers. His coverage ability, play diagnosis and hard-hitting nature earned him three All-Pro nominations and five Pro Bowl appearances.

For his career Woodson totaled 23 interceptions, 12 forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, 11 sacks and 967 total tackles. He started in 162 of 178 career games, and each of them was in a Cowboys uniform.

This potential Hall of Fame class is headlined by four first-time candidates, QB Peyton Manning, DE Jared Allen, WR Calvin Johnson and DB Charles Woodson.

The initial list included 130 members that was whittled down to the current 25. There will be another cut down to 15 Modern-Era finalists. Former Cowboys wide receiving great Drew Pearson is one of three already among the finalists as a Senior Committee member.

If Woodson were to be selected, he would also be joining his two-time Super Bowl winning head coach Jimmy Johnson on stage to be enshrined.  Former Cowboys’ safety Cliff Harris will also be enshrined next August. Dallas was scheduled to play in the annual Hall of Fame game this past season, but all of the events were cancelled due to COVID-19.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2021 will be enshrined Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021 in Canton as part of the 2021 Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls. Other events during the week of festivities will include the rescheduled Hall of Fame Game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 5, the Gold Jacket Dinner on Aug. 6 and the Centennial Class of 2020 Enshrinement on Aug. 7.
