Former UCLA gymnast Selena Harris lands at Florida

Selena Harris goes to Gainesville.

Former UCLA Bruins Gymnast Selena Harris has found her new collegiate home. Harris, who was dismissed from the team earlier this month will be a Florida Gator.

Harris, from Las Vegas, spent two seasons with the Bruins after starring at Green Valley High School.  She scored four perfect 10s on valunt in her UCLA career. He was named the 2024 Pac-12 Gymnastic of the Year, and back in 2023, she was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.  She ranks 10th all-time at UCLA with five career-perfect 10s and was the sixth in Bruins history to receive multiple 10s in a single meet.

This is the second former UCLA Gymnast to join the SEC this week. Alex Irvine was the first, as she chose to enroll at Auburn. Benjamin Royer from the Daily Bruin was the first to report the news via his X account:

Head coach Janelle McDonald and her assistants have a bunch of work to do to fill the star. The women’s gymnastics season is set to start in mid-December, with the first competitive meets in January 2025.

UCLA gymnast Selena Harris dismissed from team

Selena Harris dismissed from UCLA…

Big news came from UCLA Gymnastics on Wednesday. Benjamin Royer of the DailyBruin tweeted that Selena Harris was dismissed from the team. She is now in the transfer portal, as she seeks her next location.

Harris was the 2024 Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year. She is a 12-time All-American and has a year left of eligibility. Harris was the top recruit in the 2023 freshman class and earned all Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors.

In 2024, Harris earned four perfect scores and won the Pac-12 all-around title. She finished as the top-ranked athlete in the vault. Harris also qualified as an individual for the NCAA champions after the team missed out.

It will be interesting to see what else comes from this story, but the immediate reaction is obviously a huge loss for the Bruins gymnastics squad.

Harris has removed any trace of UCLA Gymnastics from her X bio.

She did respond to a tweet about her being in the transfer portal.

UCLA’s Selena Harris records second-straight perfect 10

Selena Harris continues to impress for UCLA.

During UCLA’s gymnastics meet on Monday night, Selena Harris scored a perfect ten for vault. The impressive part? It was her second perfect mark in a row.

In the close loss in the meet against #4 ranked Utah, the #9 Bruins came up short by a mere .325 points. The main story of the night, however, was Harris.

Completing the always difficult blind landing, Harris’ performance on the vault earned her a second-consecutive perfect ten in the event and her third overall in her career.

On Monday night, Harris also went home with victories in the All-Around, scoring 39.675 points, uneven bars with 9.95 points, and floor exercise at 9.95 points in a dominant showing.

The 2023 Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year and seven-time All-American, Harris has already cemented herself as one of the top gymnasts in the nation. Only a sophomore at UCLA, Harris has an opportunity to continue to build her legacy as a Bruin and continue to rack up awards and perfect tens.

With the NCAA championship around the corner in April, watch for Harris to make some more noise in the meantime and potentially take home some hardware soon.
