The Green Bay Packers selected Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave with the 42nd overall pick in the 2023 draft.

This was one of the picks obtained from the New York Jets in the trade of Aaron Rodgers.

Musgrave played in only two games during the 2022 season but still caught 11 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown before going down with a knee injury. For his career, Musgrave caught 47 passes for 633 yards and two scores.

Musgrave (6-5, 253) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.61 seconds. His Relative Athletic Score is 9.78 out of 10.0.

Musgrave was Dane Brugler’s No. 29 overall player and No. 3 tight end in the draft class.

2023 NFL Draft: Bears could be looking to move up in the 2nd round

Bears could be looking to reacquire the No. 32 overall pick they traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Chase Claypool.

The Chicago Bears will have to wait a bit to make their first selection of Day 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft. Or will they? According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bears have had conversations about moving up in the draft, possibly as high as No. 32, the first pick of the round currently held by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rapoport mentions a number of teams who have inquired about moving up last night into the first round as it was winding down on Thursday evening and the Bears were one of them. Could they still be interested and put together a package to entice the Steelers? Interestingly enough, the No. 32 pick originally belonged to the Bears before they dealt it in exchange for wide receiver Chase Claypool.

Without that pick, Bears aren’t on the clock again until No. 53 with the selection they acquired from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for Roquan Smith. That would be 43 slots in between the Bears’ first pick of the draft where they selected Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright with the No. 10 pick.

Should the Bears look to move up all the way to No. 32, it could cost the Bears a pretty penny, including one of their future first-round picks. But there are quite a few prospects still on the board with first-round grades such as cornerback Joey Porter Jr., safety Brian Branch, and tight end Michael Mayer. Perhaps they have their eye on someone they know won’t be available later on.

2023 NFL Draft: Devin Hester to announce one of the Bears Day 2 picks

Bears legendary return specialist Devin Hester will announce one of the team’s second-round picks on Friday evening.

A Chicago Bears legend will introduce one of the team’s newest draft selections on Friday night. Former All-Pro return specialist Devin Hester is set to take the stage in Kansas City to announce one of the Bears’ second-round picks.

Over the last decade or so, the NFL has brought former and active players from each organization to the draft to make selections on Day 2. The Bears have had players such as Matt Forte, Dick Butkus, Rashied Davis, and Olin Kreutz in recent years as representatives. Now it’s Hester’s turn as he hopefully introduces another star second-round selection, just like he turned out to be back in the mid-2000s.

The Bears selected Hester out of the University of Miami with the No. 57 pick in 2006. He immediately became a star, setting the NFL world on fire with his electric returns his rookie season, culminating in one of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history when he ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown in Super Bowl XLI against the Indianapolis Colts.

Hester finished his  NFL career with multiple NFL records, including the most career return touchdowns of all time and has been a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame each of the last two years. He’s considered the greatest return specialist in NFL history.

Hester will surely receive a warm reception from the Bears fans in attendance when he gets ready to announce the pick. The question is, will the NFL let him walk out to his signature song “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” by Soulja Boy when he enters the stage? We won’t have to wait too long to find out.

Best available players for Commanders on Day 2 of 2023 NFL draft

The Commanders hold two picks on Friday. Here are the best remaining players at some of Washington’s positions of need.

The Washington Commanders entered the 2023 NFL draft focusing on two positions: offensive line and cornerback. At No. 16 overall, the Commanders selected Mississippi State cornerback, Emmanuel Forbes, filling a major need.

However, as Washington enters day two, the Commanders must address the offensive line and add depth at other positions, such as edge rusher and linebacker.

Washington has two picks Friday: No. 47 overall in the second round and No. 97 overall in the third round [compensatory selection].

Here are the best available players remaining at each position of need for the Commanders:

2023 Draft: Best players remaining for Day 2

From @ToddBrock24f7: There’s a ton of talent to be had, thanks to a chaotic first round that left many marquee names waiting for a call. Here’s who’s out there.

Chaos reigned on Day 1, and the forecast for Day 2 calls for a good chance of more of the same.

Thursday’s opening round in Kansas City left a ton of big names on the board, so expect teams to jockey for position as they angle to dip into the cream of the remaining crop.

The Cowboys are set to add two more names to their rookie class on Friday with Picks 58 and 90. Here’s a cheat sheet on who’s still waiting for a phone call, with Draft Wire’s best players still available, plus a few extra notable names just to account for another night of wackiness.

Last 11 players drafted with the No. 40 overall pick

Looking up the last 11 players drafted with the No. 40 overall pick can give us an idea of what kind of help the Saints can find in Round 2:

Looking up the last 11 players drafted with the No. 40 overall pick can give us an idea of what kind of help the New Orleans Saints can find in Round 2 of the 2023 NFL draft. Picking just 11 slots after their first-round choice at No. 29, they should be positioned well to land an impact player (assuming they don’t trade out of this spot). Let’s look back on the players to come before here:

Every second-round pick the Saints have made since 2002

The Saints have a strong history picking in the second round. Here’s every player they’ve taken in Round 2 since 2002:

The New Orleans Saints have a strong history picking in the second round, dating back to the early years of Mickey Loomis’ stewardship as general manager — where they found Pro Bowlers like LeCharles Bentley, Jon Stinchcomb, and Roman Harper. That success has continued in recent years with impact players like Vonn Bell, Marcus Williams, Erik McCoy, and of course, Michael Thomas.

We’ve already recapped the Saints’ history in the other rounds, which you can find below. Here’s every player they’ve taken in Round 2 since 2002:

Saints are scheduled to pick 41st overall in 2023 NFL draft

The Saints don’t have a first round pick (for now…), but we know where they’ll be picking in the second round:

Let’s go ahead and get it out of the way: the first-round 2023 NFL draft pick the New Orleans Saints traded to the Philadelphia Eagles will fall at No. 10 overall, which isn’t great. The Saints are probably going to get a first rounder back after trading Sean Payton’s coaching rights, but that’s not a sure thing. So when will they go on the clock in April?

Right now, the Saints are slated to make their first pick in the second round at No. 41 overall. Because the Miami Dolphins forfeited their first rounder for tampering violations last year, there are only 31 picks in the 2023 first round rather than 32. That puts the Saints at No. 41 in the next frame.

But the Saints have a history of trading their picks around. They’re always eager to move up the board and target specific prospects, so it shouldn’t shock anyone if they move up from No. 41.

New Orleans also has a strong history of drafting in the second round — that’s where they’ve found standouts like cornerback Alontae Taylor (who led the team with 11 passes defensed as a rookie), linebacker Pete Werner, center Erik McCoy, safeties Marcus Williams and Vonn Bell, plus wide receiver Michael Thomas. Hopefully they’ll continue to make the best of this draft slot.

Packers trying to move up in second round of 2022 draft

The Packers are attempting to move up, possibly to get a wide receiver, to start Day 2 of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Green Bay Packers are one of the teams exploring a trade-up in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft, which begins Friday night.

“Keep an eye on the Green Bay Packers,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said when discussing teams that could move up to start Day 2.

The Packers are “working the boards” and “trying to see if they can move up.”

Rapoport suggested the Packers could move up 10 spots or more, possibly in a trade with the New York Giants, who hold the No. 36 overall pick. Getting to No. 36 would require the Packers to move up 17 spots, an aggressive trade scenario for a team with three picks (No. 53, No. 59, No. 92) on Day 2. Giving up the third-round pick could be enough to get up into position.

The target? Possibly a pass-catcher. The Packers weren’t able to get a preferred receiver in the first round, but the second round looks like a hot spot at the position. Christian Watson, George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert and Alec Pierce could all be targets in a trade-up scenario.

After solidifying the defense on Day 1, the Packers could be one of the teams willing to move up to get a receiver to start Day 2.

Aaron Jones to announce Packers’ second-round picks during 2022 draft

RB Aaron Jones will announce the Packers’ picks in the second round during the 2022 NFL draft.

Fans of the Green Bay Packers will recognize the man announcing the team’s second-round picks on Friday of the 2022 NFL draft. The league revealed that Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones will be among the notable players and former players to announce picks during Day 2 of the draft.

Jones, a fifth-round pick of the Packers in 2017, will be in Las Vegas to make the announcements. He’ll be busy. Barring a trade, Jones will announce the Packers’ picks at No. 53 overall and No. 59 overall.

The Packers have their original second-round pick plus an extra second-rounder after trading away Davante Adams.

Jones, a Pro Bowler in 2020, will be one of seven active NFL players to announce draft picks on Day 2.

Last year, outside linebacker Rashan Gary announced picks for the Packers on Friday of the draft.

The full list of players and former players scheduled to make picks during Day 2 can be found here.
