Jordan Wright, Derek Fountain to represent LSU men’s basketball at SEC media day this month

The pair of transfer joined LSU’s program after stints with other SEC teams.

LSU will head to Birmingham later this month for SEC Tipoff ’24, the league’s annual men’s basketball media day event.

On Thursday, the Tigers announced that graduate student guard [autotag]Jordan Wright[/autotag] and senior forward [autotag]Derek Fountain[/autotag] will represent the team at SEC media day.

Both players arrived in Baton Rouge as transfers. Wright came in this offseason from Vanderbilt, and the Louisiana native appeared in 123 games with the Commodores, winning SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2022 and averaging double-digit scoring over the last two seasons.

Fountain is also an SEC transfer having arrived from Mississippi State in coach Matt McMahon’s first offseason. He started 23 of 31 games last season, averaging eight points and 5.5 rebounds.

LSU has retooled using the transfer portal once again this offseason, and McMahon will hope to improve upon a 14-19 season in Year 1 that saw the team finish just 2-16 in SEC play.

Everything Bruce Pearl said at SEC media day

Topics included the team’s trip to Israel and NIL.

It’s SEC media day, and that means the college basketball season is almost upon us.

Head coach Bruce Pearl spoke to the media on Wednesday, and he had quite a lot to talk about. He discussed topics including an expanded SEC tournament, new Gators head coach Todd Golden, the team’s trip to Israel and the new landscape of college basketball under NIL. Pearl aims to lead his Auburn Tigers back to the SEC championship after the departure of two of his best players in Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler to the NBA.

Check out every question he answered down below:

Paul Finebaum gives praise to Harsin after media day

Finebaum said he respect how Harsin handled questions about the drama that surrounded him over the offseason.

College football personality Paul Finebaum gave his props to coach [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] on Wednesday after his SEC media day appearance.

In an interview with McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, Finebaum said that he respected Harsin for how he handled the media amidst his survival of an attempted coup during the offseason.

Here is what Finebaum had to say about Harsin:

“I didn’t know what was going to happen with Bryan Harsin…I nearly forgot about (the story) with everything else that is going on. (We were) thinking about all the expansion news and so much else that when he stood up there I forgot they almost fired him at Auburn. (We were) struck by what he said and how he said it because he could have chosen a lot of paths. What I respect about Bryan Harsin is that he met it head on. He did not eqivocate, he didn’t cover for the people who wanted him out, but he laid it down. He said, ‘you guys tried to fire me and you failed.’ I really respect that.”

Harsin did address the attempt at his SEC media day, but he kept it short and explained that it would be the last time he would talk about what happened during the offseason. He explained that there were “a lot of positives” that came from the inquiry over him and that he— and the team were now focused on “moving forward” as the season is set to begin.

The team and Harsin have a chance to impress Finebaum even more with their play on the field as the Tigers are set to gear up against the Mercer Bears in their season opener on Sept. 3.

Everything Derick Hall said at SEC media day

The NFL draft prospect talked about defensive players to watch, tough SEC offensive lines and more.

SEC media day has long been an opportunity for fans of the Southeastern Conference to get an inside look into preseason preparation from their favorite school.

It was the Auburn Tigers’ time to go before the media on Thursday, and along with head coach Bryan Harsin’s thoughts on players to watch and the attempted coup to remove him from his position over the offseason, a handful of Tigers football players spoke as well.

One of those players was [autotag]Derick Hall[/autotag], a highly-touted NFL draft prospect who looks to be one of the anchors on Auburn’s defensive side of the ball for 2022. During his SEC media day spot, he discussed his own personal benchmarks for the upcoming year, players to watch on the defense and more.

Auburn Wire breaks down everything Hall said during his SEC media day appearance below:

Auburn to send three players to SEC Media Days

Auburn will be sending two offensive players and one defensive player to SEC Media Days.

Auburn is sending three upperclassmen to the 2022 SEC Media Days, the SEC announced Tuesday.

Running back [autotag]Tank Bigsby[/autotag], tight end [autotag]John Samuel Shenker[/autotag], and edge [autotag]Derick Hall[/autotag] will represent the Tigers in Atlanta.

Bigsby, who was recently named the best running back in the SEC, is entering his junior season as the focal point of the offense. He rushed for 1,099 yards and 10 touchdowns on 223 carries last season.

Shenker is entering his fifth season as a reliable playmaker for the offense. His 33 receptions and 413 yards receiving yards last season were the most ever by an Auburn tight end in a single season.

Hall is one of the conference’s best defensive linemen and is the Tiger’s top pass rusher. He made 52 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and 9.0 sacks as a junior last season.

The final day is when Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin will get his opportunity to speak at SEC Media Day. The line of questions that he will likely receive will be interesting to say the very least.

SEC football media day will be virtual

The 2020 SEC football media day will be virtual as stated by the SEC. Coaches like Kirby Smart will still attend.

The 2020 SEC football media day will be virtual as stated by the SEC. The virtual media day currently has no set date, but the initial media day was scheduled to be hosted July 13-16th. The event was expected to be hosted in Atlanta.

Here’s what SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey had to say on the adjustment:

Conducting football media days in a virtual format will provide us the opportunity to manage the event in a healthy manner as we continue to be impacted by COVID-19, and will provide flexibility for our programs to adjust their preparation for the 2020 football season according to the preseason calendar that is expected to be expanded due to the cancellation of the spring football season. We look forward to returning to our traditional media days format in 2021.

The virtual event will be similar to the originally scheduled in-person event. Media day will still feature coaches, athletes, and more. Fans should anticipate social justice, COVID-19, and what a 2020 season will look like being the primary subjects of the virtual media day.

Georgia’s Kirby Smart will still likely attend along with upperclassmen.
