Auburn to take on basketball powerhouse Duke in ACC-SEC Challenge

Auburn basketball will be put to the ultimate test this season when it faces Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

While college basketball may be amid its offseason, that does not prevent any action or news from happening. Various headlines continue to make their way across the nation, especially those relating to next year’s season. For Auburn, news was dropped Wednesday for next year’s SEC-ACC Challenge, some that turned heads across the nation.

The Tigers will be making their third-ever trip to Durham, North Carolina, to face the powerhouse Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Arena on Dec. 4.

The game announcement comes as just one small part of the recent news as both team’s rivals will play each as well when Alabama takes on North Carolina in Chapel Hill that same day.

Auburn has played in Durham twice before in 1975 and 1981. Overall, the Tigers are 0-4 against the Blue Devils, with the most recent game being a 78-72 loss in the Maui Invitational in 2018.

This game is felt as an honor by head coach [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag], as he knows this will be a big task ahead of his team in the midst of another big season.

“I can no longer play the, ‘we don’t get any respect card,’ which I think we’ve earned by winning four conference championships over the last seven years,” Pearl said. “Personally, coaching in Cameron Indoor Stadium against head coach Jon Scheyer and the Duke Basketball program will be extremely meaningful to me. I know that it will be the same for our players and coaching staff.”

This year will be the second year of the cross-conference challenge, with the Tigers winning last year’s matchup against Virginia Tech 74-57 in Neville Arena.

Auburn-Virginia Tech among top games in this season’s ACC-SEC Challenge

Auburn is looking to make its way into the top 25. Can a win over Virginia Tech make it happen?

The inaugural ACC-SEC Challenge tips off this week, and Auburn will have a solid draw.

The Tigers welcome Virginia Tech to Neville Arena for an 8:15 tipoff on Wednesday night and College Sports Wire projects the matchup to be one of the best of the week.

College Sports Wire’s Andy Patton ranked all 14 ACC-SEC Challenge matchups and has placed the Auburn-Virginia Tech game in the No. 6 slot. Patton feels that Auburn is on the cusp of a top 25 ranking, and a win over the Hokies could get them there.

Virginia Tech got crushed by FAU in the ESPN Events Invitational championship, 84-50, although prior to that they had upset a previously ranked Iowa State squad. Auburn is looking to get back into the Top 25, and a victory even at home against the Hokies could help Bruce Pearl’s squad get there.

This season’s challenge will feature several noteworthy games such as Duke-Arkansas, AlabamaClemson, Miami-Kentucky, and TennesseeNorth Carolina, which is considered to be the best game of the event according to Patton.

The first-ever ACC-SEC Challenge begins Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT when Mississippi State pays a visit to Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

UGA basketball gets opponents for ACC/SEC challenge

Who will the UGA men’s and women’s basketball teams face in the ACC/SEC challenge?

The Georgia Bulldogs men’s basketball team will face the Florida State Seminoles in the 2023 ACC/SEC Basketball Challenge. Georgia will play at Florida State in Tallahassee, Florida, on Nov. 29 at 9:15 p.m. ET.

Both Georgia and Florida State are coming off somewhat disappointing 2022-2023 basketball seasons. Georgia went 16-16 last season. The Bulldogs significantly improved in year one under head coach Mark White. However, Georgia went only 6-12 in the SEC.

Georgia is entering year two of the Mark White era. White helped Georgia improve its roster this offseason and plans to have the Bulldogs play harder nonconference schedules.

Florida State head coach Leonard Hamilton and the Seminoles had a very disappointing 9-23 season. The Seminoles had some ugly nonconference defeats, but managed to go 7-13 in ACC play.

The Georgia women’s basketball team will host the Duke Blue Devils in the 2023 ACC/SEC Basketball Challenge. The Georgia-Duke games will be at 5:00 p.m. ET on Nov. 30.

The Georgia women made the NCAA Tournament last season and finished with a 22-12 record. Duke went 26-7 and also made the NCAA Tournament last season.
