The Bears come into this game following a Week 1 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Both QB Patrick Mahomes and QB Justin Fields played 1 drive with the former having his result in a touchdown.

Chicago used a 16-0 third quarter to gain and eventually keep the lead. RB David Montgomery didn’t see the field. RB Khalil Herbert should be expected to be among the several backs that see a bulk of the load.

Seattle, expected to be one of the worst teams in the league this season, used its first game to potentially settle a hot quarterback battle. The Seahawks lost 32-25 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Drew Lock finished 11-for-15 for 102 yards and 2 TDs while Geno Smith was 10-for-15 for 101 yards. Rookie RB Kenneth Walker III played just 5 snaps while projected starting RB Rashard Penny didn’t see the field.

The Lock-Smith combo should produce more than a few series of Justin Fields and then a plethora of Chicago backups. The Bears used 3 veteran QBs in their opener.

I wouldn’t bet against the Seahawks at home with 2 QBs looking to impress, especially at -180. The +145 isn’t juicy enough to consider backing Chicago either.

Against the spread

LEAN SEAHAWKS -3.5 (+100).

The thought process here is the same. The Bears were able to come back when QBs Dustin Crum and Chad Henne entered the game for Kansas City last week.

That won’t be the case as Seattle will have 2 starter-quality quarterbacks on the field for the majority of the game.

The Bears entered half down 14-0 and only came back when Kansas City went deeper into their rotation. Also, Seattle has some high-profile players like Walker III who should be expected to see increased loads as the season inches closer.

Overs were hot in Week 1 of preseason action, and considering there were 57 points in the Week 1 matchup between the Steelers and Seahawks, at least 1 offense is ripe for success.

The Bears’ defense struggled to defend the Chiefs’ top quarterbacks. With Lock destined for several series and Smith ready to take over after that, expect an efficient night from Seattle.

On the other hand, the Bears put up 19 points and should give Fields more snaps as the season approaches.

Montgomery was out with an injury last Saturday, but it was day-to-day and seemed precautionary. With another week to rest, the star back may see some action which would undoubtedly be a boost to Chicago’s offense.

With both offenses looking solid last week and Chicago’s struggles against the Chiefs when they had their top players in, expect the Over 39.5 (-108) to be the better play on the total.

With the Seahawks getting back on track offensively and with the Rams likely missing a number of players on their roster or just coming back from missed time, take the SEAHAWKS (+250) for the upset.

Against the spread

The Seahawks are 7-6 ATS this season and covered the spread in consecutive games.

The Rams covered the spread in their last two games but failed to do so in the previous five.

They are 3-3 ATS at home this season.

It’s difficult to beat a divisional opponent twice, especially with a quarterback as great as Wilson, and the Rams already did that once this season.

Take the SEAHAWKS +6.5 (+100).

Over/Under

After nine straight games of going Under the projected spread, the Seahawks have had their last two games hit the Over. They seem to have gotten their offense back on track.

The Rams are 7-6 O/U and two of their last three have gone Over the projected total. They are humming offensively the last two weeks, too.

This should be a shootout. Take OVER 46.5 (-110).

The Seahawks snapped a three-game losing streak last week by beating the San Francisco 49ers 30-23 at home. They entered the game losing six of their previous seven.

Seattle turned the ball over three times but had three takeaways on defense. QB Russell Wilson threw two touchdown passes in the win.

The Texans have lost two in a row since picking up just their second win of the season. They average a league-low 13.7 points per game and have been held to 10 or fewer points six times this season.

Houston has made the decision to go with rookie QB Davis Mills as their starter for the rest of the season.

Money line

PASS on the money line. You don’t want to have to bet four times what you can win. The Texans are a hot mess and the Seahawks appear to be rounding into form albeit probably too late to make a real playoff push.

Wilson looks to have fully recovered from the finger injury that caused him to miss three games.

The Texans are 0-2 vs. the NFC West this season.

Against the spread

Both teams have performed better against the spread than their straight-up records. The Seahawks are 6-6 ATS this season and the Texans are 5-7 ATS.

The Texans are 4-5 ATS when underdogs by at least a touchdown. But I don’t see any way for the Texans to be able to stop the Seahawks now that they appear to have their offense back on track.

Take the SEAHAWKS -7.5 (-112).

Over/Under

This week’s projected total is low but the Seahawks are 2-10 O/U this season. The Texans’ last four games and six of the last seven have stayed Under the projected total. Houston struggles to score points. Seattle will roll but won’t hit 30 points, while the Texans will struggle to just get to double digits.

The Seahawks are a mess. They have lost three in a row and six of their last seven games. Since QB Russell Wilson returned from injured reserve they have scored a total of 28 points combined in three games. Wilson still has not won a home game this season.

Wilson’s finger injury was supposed to take four to eight weeks to recover and we enter the seventh week since he suffered the injury. It’s been clear that he’s not been 100% in the three games since he’s returned.

However, even with the struggles at home this season, the Seahawks beat the 49ers once this season and have done so 14 of the last 16 times they have played each other.

Rivalry games are always weird. With Samuel out and their linebackers banged up, this is the perfect week for an upset.

Take the SEAHAWKS (+140).

Against the spread

The Seahawks are 5-6 ATS this season but have failed to cover the spread in the three games since Wilson’s return.

The 49ers started the year 1-5 ATS but are 4-1 ATS in their last five games.

However, expecting the outright Seattle win, take the SEAHAWKS +3.5 (-120).

Over/Under

The Seahawks have only had one game this season hit the Over, an overtime game in Week 2.

The 49ers have had four of their last six games go Over the projected total.

This is the game the Seahawks come alive a little.

Underdog Corner: 3 best NFL picks and predictions for Week 13

Assessing the NFL betting odds and lines for Week 13, with three predictions and picks for the best underdog bets to make.

We were 1-2 here last week in Underdog Corner, hitting on the Miami Dolphins and coming up short with the Indianapolis Colts and Minnesota Vikings.
It was only our third losing week of the season, though, as our against-the-spread record stands at 25-11 (.694). A full 21 of those 25 underdog ATS winners have won outright as well.
That established, it’s on to our three selections for lucky Week 13.

New Orleans Saints +4.5 (-110) vs. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys still have a two-game lead atop the NFC East but have dropped three of their last four contests and continue to battle COVID issues with head coach Mike McCarthy out for this Thursday night road game.

The struggle also is real for the Saints, who have lost four straight since a Halloween upset of the defending-champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But New Orleans’ health fortunes finally appear to be on the upswing with Taysom Hill set to take the reins at quarterback, and stud RB Alvin Kamara likely to play for the first time since Week 9.

Additionally, New Orleans has been one of the league’s best with 12-4 ATS/11-5 SU records as an underdog since 2018, so we’re banking on the SAINTS (+4.5) to keep it close in the Week 13 opener.

Los Angeles Chargers +3.5 (-120) at Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals have put together back-to-back double-digit wins to move to 7-4. But their other two-game win streaks this season have been followed by losses, and we could easily see that happening again with the whole city still celebrating the Bengals’ first season sweep of the hated Pittsburgh Steelers since 2009.

The up-and-down Chargers, meanwhile, were stymied in a 28-13 road loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday to fall to 6-5.

The Bolts, though, have performed better as underdog (6-4 ATS) than favorite (7-9) over the last two seasons, so we’ll take CHARGERS (+3.5) catching the field goal-and-the-hook Sunday.

Seattle Seahawks +3.5 (-120) vs. San Francisco 49ers

These are two NFC West rivals trending in completely different directions with the Niners having won and covered in four of their last five while the 3-8 Seahawks have dropped six of seven since beating the host 49ers 28-21 in Week 4.

But we’re banking on one last stand from Russell Wilson and Co., who have won 13 of the last 15 meetings (10-5 ATS) against San Francisco, who will be without injured do-it-all WR Deebo Samuel in this one.

Take the SEAHAWKS (+3.5) and the points at home.
