Tommy DeVito’s agent apologizes for pizzeria drama

Sean Stellato, the agent for New York Giants QB Tommy DeVito, has apologized for a “misunderstanding” with a New Jersey pizza joint.

Sean Stellato, the flamboyant agent of New York Giants rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito, has apologized for the recent controversy in which DeVito was believed to have reneged on an appearance at a local restaurant over money.

Stellato told TMZ Sports that the affair was a “misunderstanding” and that he would no longer be handling DeVito’s off-field business.

“There was obviously a miscommunication, and if I caused that, then I apologize,” Stellato explained. “That wasn’t my intention. Like I said, we’re focused on playing football.”

Stellato also said DeVito’s marketing team is “fielding calls around the clock” following his rise to fame … but is carefully picking which brands to get in bed with.

As for the pizza shop mishap, the agent says he is looking to get past it all … and said DeVito will be making another unpaid appearance at Coniglio’s for a charity event next month.

“In life, sometimes there’s miscommunication,” he said. “I’m owning up to that. My intentions have always been to represent the client as best I can. I have a fiduciary duty both on and off the field, and I apologize if any miscommunications that I caused, I really do, my intent wasn’t that. We’re ready to move forward. This is obviously behind us.”

DeVito’s name, image and likeness are a hot commodity these days, and he is cashing in on his newfound fame with trademark applications, appearances and endorsement deals.

Strike while the iron is hot, they say. How much longer will DeVito stay hot is the question.

Todd McShay: Tommy DeVito’s agent like a ‘rodent that won’t go away’

Former ESPN analyst Todd McShay says Tommy DeVito’s agent is like a “rodent that won’t go away in my life” but admits it’s an internal issue.

Sean Stellato, the agent for New York Giants rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito, has become a viral sensation in recent weeks. A hiccup with a local pizzeria aside, Stellato has grabbed the attention of the NFL world for his colorful attire and Italian heritage.

Stellato has received as much screen time as Taylor Swift over the past month, and that’s been both positive and negative.

While many of Stellato’s interviews have been grounded and yielded positive reviews, not everyone is a fan. Some around the business, like former ESPN analyst Todd McShay, despise the agent.

During a recent appearance on The Ringer with Ryen Russillo, McShay explained his disdain for Stellato.

“Don’t get me started on Sean Stellato. The fact that Sean Stellato is still in my life drives me crazy,” McShay said. “It’s an indictment on me, I’ll admit it upfront.”

McShay’s reasoning is all personal — an issue dating back to high school.

During his senior season, McShay’s team was undefeated headed into a game against Stellato’s Salem High School. The winner would have the opportunity to control their fate en route to the championship game.

Salem picked up the win but there were still two weeks remaining in the season. McShay’s team rebounded with back-to-back wins and during their final game, word emerged that Stellato’s team was behind late. If they were to falter, McShay and his team would get their championship opportunity.

Ultimately, it was not meant to be.

“Sean Stellato throws a touchdown pass with like no time left. They win that game. We’re shut out (of the championship). Season’s over. High school career is over,” McShay grumbled.

“15 years later I get word from somebody that I know who has talked to Stellato. He’s writing a book about it. And Stellato wants to contact me to do an interview. I tell him to go bleep himself. And I think it’s all going to go away.”

Then came the emergence of DeVito and the DeVito mania that followed. Stellato was suddenly back in the spotlight.

“I’m sitting on my couch a couple of weeks ago, Monday Night Football, and I look at this guy and I’m like, Holy (expletive), that’s Sean Stellato. He won’t go away. He’s like this rodent that won’t go away in my life,” McShay said.

“Again, all my fault, not Sean’s — I’m thrilled for Sean. Good guy, Italian-American Hall of Fame, all the great things. But now I am 46 years old and I am still feeling anguish towards Sean Stellato, and it’s not his fault.”

Tommy DeVito’s agent thinks he can beat out Daniel Jones in 2024

Sean Stellato, Tommy DeVito’s agent, believes his client can beat out Daniel Jones for the New York Giants’ starting job in 2024.

New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito has gone from an undrafted rookie who was fortunate to land a job in the NFL to one of the most talked about players in team sports these days.

His personality and entourage — which consists mainly of family and friends from nearby towns in New Jersey — have captured the imaginations and hearts of fans over the past month.

This week, DeVito’s agent, Sean Stellato (the guy dressed in all black with the fedora on the Giants’ sideline this week) told Kay Adams that his client is no flash in the pan. He’s here for the long haul.

“My dream is for him to be the starting quarterback and get a long-term deal with the New York Giants. I have no doubt he can win this job,” Stellato said on FanDuel’s daily morning show, Up & Adams.

This interview took place before DeVito was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, news that has people believing in the former Don Bosco Prep star.

No one in the business is expecting DeVito to actually surpass Daniel Jones as the Giants’ starter in 2024 but crazier things have happened. Jones is out for the season with a torn ACL and is in the first year of a four-year, $160 million deal.

The Giants can get out of Jones’ deal after next season. There’s no doubt he’ll be in camp. So will DeVito, who suddenly is showing signs of becoming a viable NFL quarterback after leading the Giants to three straight wins.

Against Green Bay on Monday night, DeVito completed 17 of 21 attempts (81 percent) for 158 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions for a 113.9 rating. He also had 71 rushing in the game.

By doing that, he became the second undrafted rookie in the common-draft era with an 80-plus completion percentage (min. 15 attempts) in a game.

DeVito is the first undrafted rookie since 1967 with a 100+ rating in three straight starts and is the third undrafted rookie since 1970 to win three or more starts. He has also tied the all-time NFL record for wins by an undrafted rookie quarterback (3).
