Seahawks ‘have had discussions’ about trading DE L.J. Collier

According to a report by Ian Rapoport, the Seattle Seahawks have had discussions about potentially dealing their former first-round pick, defensive end L.J. Collier.

The NFL trade deadline (Tuesday, Nov. 2) is coming soon, with only two more games to go.

According to a report by Ian Rapoport, the Seattle Seahawks have had discussions about potentially dealing their former first-round pick, defensive end L.J. Collier.

“A former first-rounder, Collier has only been active for two games this season after collecting three sacks last year. The Seahawks have had discussions centered around Collier at various points this season and prior to it, and Collier is just 26. A fresh start may make sense for all sides, especially with plenty of teams needing edge help.”

Collier has appeared in 29 games for Seattle, earning 16 starts – all in the 2020 season. Interested parties would likely be banking on the potential he showed that year, when he posted three sacks, seven QB hits and four tackles for a loss. Collier hasn’t done much else, though. This year through six games he’s only been on the field for 39 defensive snaps (25%), totaling two pressures.

Another name that may be floated in the coming days belongs to another first-round pick, running back Rashaad Penny. He should be officially activated from injured reserve later today and is expected to get the first start of his NFL career tomorrow night against the Saints.

If Penny can ball out against New Orleans as well as Jacksonville, his trade value might be boosted just enough to earn an attractive over. If not, the Seahawks will probably be happy to keep him for the rest of the season. Chris Carson will be on injured reserve at least two more weeks and his neck issue has been described as a long-term thing by coach Pete Carroll.

Seahawks worked out 2 free agent running backs Tuesday

With so many question marks hanging over this position, yesterday Seattle worked out two free agent running backs.

The Seahawks are down a few men at running back heading into Week 7. Starter Chris Carson is on injured reserve with a “sensitive” neck issue and backup Alex Collins got banged up against the Steelers and his status against the Saints is unknown at this time. Rashaad Penny appears to be ready to come off IR this week, but we can hardly bank on that given his history.

With so many question marks hanging over this position, yesterday Seattle worked out two free agent running backs.

B.J. Emmons: 5-foot-11, 220 pounds

In college, Emmons played one season at Alabama followed by two at Florida Atlantic, where he posted seven rushing touchdowns and averaged four yards per carry on 88 attempts. He only caught seven passes total, though. Injuries have been a problem for Emmons, who spent some of this past offseason with the Seahawks.

Dexter Williams: 5-foot-11, 212 pounds

Williams played his college ball at Notre Dame. He only saw modest touches until his senior season in 2018, when he broke out for 12 touchdowns and 995 yards on 158 carries (6.3 YPA). The Packers picked him in the sixth round of the next NFL draft, but he only played seven games and 34 offensive snaps before he was waived. He started this season on the Giants’ practice squad.

If either one does get signed, they are likely headed to the practice squad. At the moment, Josh Johnson is the only RB there. Depending on what happens with Penny and Collins he might be elevated for the Saints game.

Seahawks to place QB Russell Wilson on IR following finger surgery

However, coach Pete Carroll told reporters today the team will be placing Wilson on IR.

Russell Wilson had a streak worthy of Cal Ripken Jr. going, making 149 straight starts for the Seattle Seahawks. That run will come to an end next Sunday when Geno Smith takes the field as Seattle’s starter against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the first time anyone other than Wilson has done so in 10 years.

Wilson has a ruptured tendon in the middle finger on his right hand, which required surgery. Recovery time for normal humans is usually between 6-8 weeks. Wilson has resources and habits beyond most of us, though so fans should probably expect him to miss less time than that. Some reports have said Wilson will only miss four weeks.

However, coach Pete Carroll told reporters today the team will be placing Wilson on IR.

Under the new rules he will be eligible to return to the active roster after three games – making Week 10 against the Packers the earliest return date.

Seahawks activate TE Gerald Everett from reserve/COVID-19 list

Getting Everett back in the lineup should provide a boost.

The Seahawks offense is missing several players due to injuries. At least they’re getting one piece back, this week. According to Field Yates at ESPN, Seattle has activated tight end Gerald Everett from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Everett has missed the team’s last two games after a positive test, the first for the franchise since the pandemic began.

Getting Everett back in the lineup should provide a boost. From Weeks 1-3 he was deployed all over the field and was productive when targeted in the passing game, catching eight of nine targets for 77 yards and one score. While Everett was out the Seahawks got poor performances from their backup tight ends. Will Dissly, Colby Parkinson and Tyler Mabry have not contributed as receivers and generally struggled blocking.

Priority No. 1 will be building chemistry with Geno Smith, slated to be the first QB to start for Seattle aside from Russell Wilson in 10 years.

Russell Wilson has ‘realistic chance’ to return in 4 weeks

Russell Wilson might only miss 3 games for Seahawks.

Russell Wilson takes great pride in his conditioning and it wasn’t just good luck that allowed him to start 149 games in a row for the Seahawks to begin his career. That’s why it’s not hard to imagine Wilson coming back sooner than the usual recovery time after undergoing surgery on his injured finger on Friday. It’s still early in the recovery process. However, the latest reporting indicates a potentially quick turnaround for Wilson rather than the normal 6-8 week window.

According to an early Sunday morning report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, doctors believe that Wilson has a realistic chance to return to the lineup in just four weeks.

That would put Wilson on track to play in Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers. It seems that’s the preliminary goal for No. 3. According to a separate report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Wilson is targeting that game for his return.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson has already undergone surgery on his injured finger

According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Wilson has already undergone surgery, having his finger stabilized by screws.

The Seattle Seahawks have seen their world turned upside down over the last 24 hours. The worst part of their loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night was the injury suffered by their franchise quarterback. Russell Wilson hurt the middle finger on his throwing hand when he hit Aaron Donald’s elbow. Wilson eventually left the game and Geno Smith replaced him at QB.

Now, Wilson is set to miss a game for the first time since Seattle picked him in the third round of the 2012 draft. According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Wilson has already undergone surgery, having his finger stabilized by screws.

Rapoport also says the procedure was more complicated than expected and the expectation is Wilson will miss roughly the next six weeks.

And so Wilson’s streak of 149 straight starts for Seattle will come to an end next Sunday night against the Steelers.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson to have MRI today on injured finger

According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Wilson will undergo an MRI today.

Russell Wilson’s unbroken streak of starting every game in his Seahawks career is suddenly in jeopardy. In the third quarter of Thursday night’s increasingly painful loss to the Rams, Wilson injured a finger on his throwing hand. While he came back onto the field for another drive after, Wilson found he couldn’t grip the ball well enough, so he finished the game on the sidelines as Geno Smith took over.

After the game, Pete Carroll called Wilson’s injury a “really bad sprain.” Soon, we’ll learn more. According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Wilson will undergo an MRI today.

Smith performed admirably with Wilson out, but he hasn’t had to start more than one game in a season since 2014 with the Jets.

On the bright side, Wilson has nine days to recover before the next game on the schedule. The Seahawks visit the Steelers next Sunday night.
