Jags add RB BJ Emmons to their practice squad, release RB Jordan Wilkins

The Jacksonville Jaguars made a practice squad transaction Tuesday by adding a RB BJ Emmons, who played at Florida Atlantic in college.

The Jacksonville Jaguars made a change on their practice squad by switching out running back Jordan Wilkins for a new addition in running back BJ Emmons.

Emmons, 24, originally signed with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason as an undrafted free agent. He spent time on their practice squad as well as the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad before joining the Jags.

Before entering the league, Emmons attended Florida Atlantic University from 2019-20 and also spent time at Hutchinson Community College (as a sophomore) and Alabama (as a freshman). While with the FAU Owls, he was able to garner 88 carries for 353 yards and seven touchdowns.

Emmons will join Nathan Cottrell on the practice squad to give the Jags two running backs off the active roster.

Seahawks cut WR Phillip Dorsett II, RB BJ Emmons from practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks released wide receiver Phillip Dorsett II and running back BJ Emmons from the practice squad on Tuesday afternoon.

The Seattle Seahawks announced just two roster moves on Tuesday afternoon. Seattle released wide receiver Phillip Dorsett II and running back BJ Emmons from the practice squad.

Emmons had just been re-signed to the squad last week. He originally signed with Seattle this spring as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic but spent training camp and the preseason with the Raiders.

As for Dorsett II, he began his professional career in Indianapolis after he was selected by the Colts in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft. After two years there, he then spent three seasons with the Patriots before signing for his first stint in Seattle in 2020.

He signed back with the Seahawks as a member of the practice squad in September of 2021.

Seahawks worked out 2 free agent running backs Tuesday

With so many question marks hanging over this position, yesterday Seattle worked out two free agent running backs.

The Seahawks are down a few men at running back heading into Week 7. Starter Chris Carson is on injured reserve with a “sensitive” neck issue and backup Alex Collins got banged up against the Steelers and his status against the Saints is unknown at this time. Rashaad Penny appears to be ready to come off IR this week, but we can hardly bank on that given his history.

With so many question marks hanging over this position, yesterday Seattle worked out two free agent running backs.

B.J. Emmons: 5-foot-11, 220 pounds

In college, Emmons played one season at Alabama followed by two at Florida Atlantic, where he posted seven rushing touchdowns and averaged four yards per carry on 88 attempts. He only caught seven passes total, though. Injuries have been a problem for Emmons, who spent some of this past offseason with the Seahawks.

Dexter Williams: 5-foot-11, 212 pounds

Williams played his college ball at Notre Dame. He only saw modest touches until his senior season in 2018, when he broke out for 12 touchdowns and 995 yards on 158 carries (6.3 YPA). The Packers picked him in the sixth round of the next NFL draft, but he only played seven games and 34 offensive snaps before he was waived. He started this season on the Giants’ practice squad.

If either one does get signed, they are likely headed to the practice squad. At the moment, Josh Johnson is the only RB there. Depending on what happens with Penny and Collins he might be elevated for the Saints game.

The Las Vegas Raiders now have 4 former Alabama RB’s on roster

The Raiders and the Crimson Tide RB room: A perfect match.

The Las Vegas Raiders franchise is no stranger to drafting and/or signing former Crimson Tide players. in fact, most of the NFL has at least one player on roster that spent their college days in Tuscaloosa. However, the Raiders may have taken it to the next level.

Today, the Raiders’ official social media accounts announced the signing of free agent running back Bo Scarbrough, a Tuscaloosa native and former Alabama running back.

Scarbrough joining the Raiders is interesting because he is the fourth, yes No. 4, running back to join Las Vegas.

The team drafted Josh Jacobs back in 2019 NFL draft. They then signed Kenyan Drake early on in the 2021 offseason. They just recently, on Aug. 3, brought in B.J. Emmons, who joined the Crimson Tide in 2016, but transferred to FAU after his freshman season. Today, they announce the signing of Scarbrough.

There’s still time before the 2021 season for changes to be made to the roster; but at this time, Raiders are seemingly very fond of the Alabama running back room.

Raiders add two running backs after ‘COVID… hit us in the face’

Raiders add two running backs after ‘COVID hit us in the face’

There were two new running backs on the field on day two of Raiders practice. They were number 37 and 39. If you’re following along, those two numbers are already taken. But they’re in black — safety Tyree Gillespie and cornerback Nate Hobbs respectively. No matter, the Raiders were desperate for running backs and he had to get a number, so taken or not, those are the numbers they got.

Number 37 is Darius Jackson, a former sixth round pick out of Eastern Michigan who played four games in 2018 for the Packers and Cowboys. Number 39 is BJ Emmons and undrafted rookie out of Florida Atlantic.

As for the Raiders desperation, that comes from being without three running backs on the first day of camp.

One of those backs was Kenyan Drake who has an undisclosed injury that has placed in him on the NFI list. The other two are Jalen Richard and Theo Riddick who landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. And right out the gates of camp, there’s the feeling of ‘here we go again.’

“COVID is obviously still very real and it kind of hit us in the face here yesterday,” said Raiders OC Greg Olson. “You never want to have players miss [practice] but that’s the world we live in right now with COVID. It’s unfortunate those guys to have contacted it or to be in close proximity that they actually miss time because of that.”

The three losses at running back left just Josh Jacobs and undrafted rookie Trey Ragas as the lone running backs, making it vital the Raiders brought in someone to take some reps. Should either Richard or Riddick be out due to close proximity, he should be back in short order should he test negative.
