Seahawks safety Joey Blount carted off at training camp with back injury

Accounts indicate that Blount appears to have suffered a back injury while trying to break up a pass.

According to Greg Bell at the News Tribune – and also reported by Bob Condotta at the Seattle Times – Seahawks safety Joey Blount has been carted off the field at the team’s training camp practice.

Both of their accounts indicate that Blount appears to have suffered a back injury while trying to break up a pass.

We say it all the time here, but the guys on that back end are playing a very dangerous and often thankless position. Fans should remember that before they mock Jamal Adams for missing all the time he has – and also that Quandre Diggs is extremely fortunate to have recovered the way he did from his leg injury at the end of 2021.

Let’s hope Blount’s injury is a minor one and that he’ll be back out there soon.

Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen suffered a non-contact knee injury during minicamp which required surgery. However, he is expected to be back in time for training camp, which begins in about two weeks.

By the looks of things Woolen is feeling and moving much better. Yesterday Woolen shared a video on his Instagram account of himself running a 40-yard dash, including a tag that said his knee is getting right. Watch.

While the team says they don’t know exactly when he’ll be back, Seattle Seahawks star strong safety Jamal Adams certainly looks like he’s getting closer to returning to the field. As most of us were enjoying the holiday, Adams was in the lab recovering from the torn quad he suffered in Week 1 that knocked him out for the rest of the 2022 season.

Adams shared this video of himself running up stairs yesterday.

Adams is still under contract for another three seasons and the cap numbers for any cut or trade scenario are too ugly to seriously contemplate. So, Seattle fans just have to hope Adams eventually gets back to 100% healthy and then can stay on the field for (most) of a full season.

Seahawks free safety Quandre Diggs suffered a major leg injury in the team’s final quarter of their final game of the 2021 season. Not far from the cursed endzone in Glendale, Diggs went down with what was later revealed to be a broken fibula as well as a dislocated ankle.

Last night, Diggs shared a video on Twitter of him training at this time one year ago, reflecting on his recovery. Diggs revealed that he couldn’t even cut until a month and a half before the 2022 season started.

Diggs started the season slow, but he steadily got better and by the stretch run he was playing every bit as well as in 2021. At the end of the season he’d only allowed a 60.7 passer rating in coverage. For his efforts, Diggs was named to his third consecutive NFC Pro Bowl team.

Since joining the Seahawks halfway through the 2019 campaign, Diggs has posted a total of 17 interceptions and 27 pass breakups.

Seahawks CB Tariq Woolen had knee surgery today

Seahawks second-year cornerback Tariq Woolen underwent surgery on his knee today, according to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Seahawks second-year cornerback Tariq Woolen underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee today, according to a report by Brady Henderson and Adam Schefter at ESPN. Their sources say Woolen is expected to be out until training camp in late July.

A standout in his rookie year, Woolen totaled six interceptions and allowed a 48.7 passer rating and a 51.5% completion rate. He was a strong candidate to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year award but in the end he lost that battle to Jets corner Sauce Gardner despite having superior stats in all but pass breakups. Woolen did make the NFC Pro Bowl team, though.

With Woolen sidelined and Mike Jackson likely backing up Devon Witherspoon on the left side, the most logical candidates to take over the right boundary spot are Tre Brown and Artie Burns, who Schefter reported the team is re-signing to a one-year deal yesterday.

Update:

A follow-up report from Schefter says Woolen suffered the injury while walking on the practice field one week ago.

Seahawks SS Jamal Adams shares more rehab videos and inspiration

He shared another batch of videos yesterday, along with the obligatory inspirational quote.

The Seahawks defense never reached its full potential last season for a lot of reasons. One of the biggest factors was the absence of strong safety Jamal Adams, who is arguably their most-talented defensive player.

Adams suffered a torn quad just 15 snaps into the season, landing him on the injured reserve list for the rest of the year. Ever since Adams has been sharing updates on his rehab on Twitter. He shared another batch of videos yesterday, along with the obligatory inspirational quote.

Adam’s injury issues have soured him with many Seahawks fans. However, he’s still only 27 years old.

In last year’s regular season finale the Seahawks suffered a devastating injury when free safety Quandre Diggs broke his leg against the Cardinals. Seattle may have just had another key piece of its secondary get hurt in the last game of the season.

Rookie cornerback Tariq Woolen has suffered what appears to be a right ankle injury based on the broadcast. His foot got caught on the Rams receiver’s foot and then came down awkwardly with all his weight on it.

Woolen is now getting attention in blue tent.

Tre Brown has replaced Woolen at right cornerback. The score is tied at 6-6 at the two minute warning.

Update:

Thankfully, whatever it is doesn’t appear to be too serious, since Woolen was back out on the field on the next series.
