Watch: GMFB on why the Seahawks are so popular in Germany

Here’s Good Morning Football telling the story of how the Seahawks became the most popular team in the country.

Aside from the season opener, the most memorable game of the 2022 season for the Seahawks was their Munich matchup with the Buccaneers. One of the coolest parts of that game was Seattle being a home-town favorite thousands of miles from home.

Here’s Good Morning Football telling the story of how the Seahawks became the most popular team in the country.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll calls Munich field conditions a ‘nightmare,’ but equal

Carroll called the field conditions a nightmare, but one both sides had to deal with.

Figuratively speaking, the Seahawks didn’t find their footing against the Buccaneers until the fourth quarter in Sunday’s five-point loss. In a much more literal sense Seattle’s players had an awful time with the playing surface at Allianz Arena, a venue with a dayjob as a soccer stadium.

While NFL teams will switch fields for sports, that hasn’t been the case in international games – something Seahawks long snapper Tyler Ott pointed out after the game. Veteran Edge Bruce Irvin has also decried the field conditions. Now, we can add coach Pete Carroll’s voice to the chorus. In his weekly ESPN radio hit, Carroll called the field conditions a nightmare, but one both sides had to deal with.

While it’s technically true that both teams struggled, on film the Seahawks seemed to have more issues with their footing, especially when it mattered. Tom Brady’s hilarious slip and trip on Tariq Woolen’s interception aside, Tampa didn’t seem to suffer much in any critical plays because of the field.

While fans should still be feeling pretty good heading into the bye week, Carroll has admitted that this loss was a real missed opportunity. Time will tell how the rest of the season plays out but it’s exactly the kind of thing that could be the difference between hosting a playoff game and visiting one of their conference rivals.

Nevertheless, the team and everybody involved seemed to enjoy the trip to Germany. Carroll says they’re down to return as soon as the NFL allows it.

Seahawks: 3 must-see games on their 2022 regular season schedule

Here are the three games we are most looking forward to.

The Seahawks were must-see TV for most of the last 10 years. Last season, the team was featured in primetime NFL games the maximum five times. Odds are when the NFL’s full 2022 regular season schedule is released tomorrow night, they’ll be in quite a bit fewer.

Seattle is decidedly short on starpower at the moment after their two most-important players left for other teams this offseason: Russell Wilson was traded to the Broncos. while Bobby Wagner was cut and signed with the Rams. However, there are still some very interesting games on the slate this year. Here are the three we are most looking forward to.

How far will Seahawks have to fly for game vs. Bucs in Munich?

However, at least the Bucs won’t have much of an advantage in this department.

The Seahawks are in for one hell of a road trip later on this year. This morning the NFL announced that Seattle will be traveling to Munich, Germany for a game against the Buccaneers on November 13.

Kickoff time will be 6:30 a.m. PT, which is difficult enough. The players will also have to contend with a very long flight time – over 12 hours according to Google. However, at least the Bucs won’t have much of an advantage in this department. According to beat writer Greg Auman, Seattle’s squad will only be in the air for about half an hour longer than Tampa due to being much further north.

So, that’s encouraging.

Then again, the Bucs have a much better team on paper than the Seahawks heading into this season. We probably won’t get odds for the game until the week of but we’d be surprised if Tampa isn’t favored by a touchdown.

NFL announces date, time for Seahawks vs. Buccaneers game in Germany

Here are the details.

The Seattle Seahawks will be facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a road game during the 2022 season in Munich, Germany, the NFL announced this morning. Here are the details.

Seattle and Tampa have met 14 times previously, with the Seahawks going 9-5 in those contests. Their most recent matchup was a 40-34 overtime victory in November of 2019.

The Bucs have gotten a rather sizable upgrade at quarterback since then. Tom Brady has led a loaded, veteran-heavy roster deep into the playoffs each of the last two seasons, including a Super Bowl win.

Meanwhile, Seattle has taken a bigger step backwards at QB than any other team in the league this year after trading future Hall of Famer Russell Wilson to the Broncos. If the game were to be played today, it would likely be Geno Smith starting against the Bucs.
