Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Rockies 7, Padres 5

Money line

The Rockies have lost 5 of their last 6 home games, but are still 41-39 at home. They are 7-2 against the Padres at Coors Field.

Freeland has not lost to the Padres this season.

The Padres are 6-2 in their last 8 games. They have won every other of Clevinger’s last 7 starts and won the last outing.

Take the ROCKIES (+125).

Run line/Against the spread

The Padres’ win Saturday night was the first time they covered the spread in Denver this season. Overall, they are 5-13 ATS against the Rockies this season.

The Rockies are 44-36 ATS at home this season.

Take the ROCKIES +1.5 (-120).

Over/Under

Six of the 9 games the Padres and Rockies have played at Coors Field have had 11 or more runs, including Saturday’s game. It ended a streak of 5 straight games with fewer than 11 runs for the Rockies at home.

Wrapping up a season series and a game in which the result determines who wins the series, this might get crazy.

Take OVER 10.5 (-120).

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 8, Rockies 6

Money line

The Padres are 1-7 this season at Coors Field.

The Rockies, despite being a last-place team, play well at home. They are 41-38 at Coors Field and 24-48 everywhere else.

Darvish has been pitching extremely well in September but has not pitched in Denver this season. He is 0-1 in 4 career starts at Coors Field.

Kuhl has struggled lately and the Rockies have not been supporting him.

It feels like a game for the Padres to win tonight, but the price on the money line means PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

It is interesting to see the spread at 2.5 runs when the Padres have only won 1 game at Coors Field this year — and that was a 1-run win.

They have yet to cover the spread on the road against the Rockies this season. Overall, they are 4-13 ATS against the Rockies this season.

The pitching matchup seems too heavily in favor of the Padres but there is no reason to bank on a win by three or more runs.

Take the ROCKIES +2.5 (-125).

Over/Under

Five of the 8 games they have played this season in Coors Field have had 11 or more runs.

The Rockies’ last 4 home games have not reached double-digit runs, but 5 of the 6 previous games had 11 or more.

You can’t keep Coors Field quiet for too long.

Take OVER 10.5 (-112).

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (83-67) begin a 3-game road series against the Colorado Rockies (64-86) Friday. First pitch from Coors Field is at 8:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Rockies odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Rockies lead 9-7

The Padres had a 5-game win streak going before suffering a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday. San Diego is now only 1/2 game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for the second wild-card spot in the NL.

The Rockies just want to finish the season strong at this point, though, they just got swept in a 4-game home series against the San Francisco Giants. Colorado was outscored 25-11 in its recent series with San Francisco, so it isn’t coming into this game with much momentum.

Padres at Rockies projected starters

LHP Sean Manaea vs. RHP Ryan Feltner

Manaea (7-9, 5.18 ERA) makes his 27th start and 28th appearance. He has a 1.33 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 through 144 1/3 IP.

  • Has allowed 3 or more ER in 5 of his last 7 starts
  • July 11 at Rockies: 6 1/3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 B and 5 K

Feltner (3-8, 6.05 ERA) makes his 17th start and 18th appearance. He has a 1.44 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 8.1 K/9 through 80 1/3 IP.

Padres at Rockies picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 8, Rockies 6

Money line

I’ll go ahead and PASS on the money line in this game at the current odds the Padres have. San Diego is 4-1 in the previous meetings with Colorado, so it could have the edge Friday, but I’m not wagering on the money line straight up.

Run line/Against the spread

PADRES -1.5 (-108) is the ideal option in this game with San Diego still having something to play for. Both pitchers in this game have struggled this season, but I have more confidence in the bats of the Padres than the Rockies.

You can also take PADRES -0.5 FIRST 5 INNINGS (-122) as an alternative if you don’t believe San Diego wins by multiple runs or if you think they’ll take an early lead.

Over/Under

Life is too short to take the Under in a game at Coors Field, especially when there are 2 struggling pitchers taking the mound. OVER 10.5 RUNS (-130) is an enticing bet at plus odds given the fact that both teams should be able to produce a decent number of runs.

The Over has hit in 5 of the last 7 meetings between the Padres and the Rockies.

St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The St. Louis Cardinals (87-61) start a 3-game series against the San Diego Padres (81-66) Tuesday at Petco Park at 9:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cardinals vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Cardinals lead 3-0

The Cardinals have had a good September thus far, winning 11 of the 17 games, including 3 of their last 4. If the playoffs began today, St. Louis would be the No. 3 seed in the NL as they’re 8 1/2 games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.

After a shaky start to the month, the Padres have reeled off 3 wins in a row. With the season nearing a close, San Diego is fending off the Philadelphia Phillies and the Brewers for the No. 2 wild-card spot in the NL.

Cardinals at Padres projected starters

RHP Adam Wainwright vs. RHP Mike Clevinger

Wainwright (11-9, 3.29 ERA) makes his 30th start. He has a 1.24 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 6.9 K/9 in 178 IP.

  • Has allowed multiple ER in 4 of his last 5 starts
  • May 31 vs. Padres: 7 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 10 K

Clevinger (5-7, 4.47 ERA) makes his 20th start. He has a 1.22 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 7.6 K/9 in 98 2/3 IP.

  • Has allowed 4 or more ER in 3 consecutive starts

Cardinals at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 6, Padres 3

Money line

Take the CARDINALS (-108) to secure a win on the road against the Padres. St. Louis hasn’t lost to San Diego this season and they’ve won 6 consecutive meetings with the Padres.

Run line/Against the spread

CARDINALS -1.5 (+155) is an enticing wager at plus odds as I believe St. Louis is the better team in this contest. Clevinger has struggled in recent starts for the Padres, giving me confidence the Cardinals can win this game by multiple runs.

For those that aren’t comfortable taking the Cardinals to win by 2-plus runs, you can get CARDINALS -0.5 FIRST 5 INNINGS (+120) at plus odds as well.

Over/Under

OVER 7.5 RUNS (-120) is the play here with both pitchers in this game giving up multiple runs in recent starts. When the Cardinals and Padres are at their best, they are both capable of scoring 7 or 8 runs by themselves.

The Over has hit in 5 straight home games for the Padres. Also, the Over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings between the Cardinals and the Padres in San Diego.

Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Diamondbacks odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Padres lead 11-5

The Padres were shut out 4-0 in the series opener Thursday for their 4th loss in their last 5 games. They maintain a 1 1/2 game lead for the final wild-card spot in the National League.

The Diamondbacks won their second straight game behind rookie RHP Drey Jameson, who pitched 7 scoreless innings in his major league debut.

Padres at Diamondbacks projected starters

LHP Blake Snell vs. LHP Madison Bumgarner

Snell (6-9, 4.02 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.34 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 12.1 K/9 through 103 IP.

  • The Padres are 6-14 in his starts
  • Arizona beat him 5-0 in his start against them Sept. 5 but he allowed only 1 run on 4 hits and 1 walk with 10 strikeouts over 6 innings

Bumgarner (6-14, 4.88 ERA) makes his 29th start. He has a 1.48 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 6.4 K/9 through 147 2/3 IP.

  • Has allowed 4 or more runs in 7 of his last 8 outings
  • Is 0-3 with a 5.29 ERA across 4 starts vs. the Padres in 2022

Padres at Diamondbacks picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 5, Diamondbacks 2

Money line

The Diamondbacks have lost 6 of Bumgarner’s last 8 starts and he has struggled against the Padres, posting an ERA of 5.29 against them this season.

The Padres have lost 4 of Snell’s last 5 turns. However, he pitched very well the last time he faced the Diamondbacks and just got no offensive support.

The Diamondbacks have not won more than one game in any series against the Padres, so predicting a second consecutive win for them in this series seems unlikely.

With the price of the money line, PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

The Padres are 39-36 ATS on the road this season. Eight of their 11 wins over the Diamondbacks have been by at least 2 runs.

Eleven of the Diamondbacks’ last 12 losses have been by 2 or more runs.

Take the PADRES -1.5 (-110).

Over/Under

Five of Bumgarner’s last 7 starts have had totals of 9 or more runs, but 3 of his 4 starts against the Padres have had 8 or fewer runs.

Eleven of the 16 games between the two teams this season have had 8 or fewer runs.

Five of the last 6 games for Arizona have had 8 or fewer runs.

Take UNDER 8.5 (-125).

Season series: Padres lead 11-4

The Padres are coming off a 2-game series they split on the road against the Seattle Mariners. They have lost 3 of the last 4 games and 6 of their last 10. They hold a 2-game lead for the final AL wild-card spot.

Padres at Diamondbacks picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 5, Diamondbacks 3

Money line

The Diamondbacks simply struggle against the Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers. They have not won more than 1 game in any series against the Padres. Now they go up Manaea, who has pitched well against them in 4 outings. The Padres are 3-1 against Arizona when Manaea is on the mound.

It will be Jameson’s MLB debut, so there is no way to know what to expect from the young pitching prospect.

Take the PADRES (-170).

Run line/Against the spread

The Padres are 39-35 ATS on the road this season. Of their 11 wins over the Diamondbacks, 8 have been by at least 2 runs.

Eleven of the Diamondbacks’ last 12 losses have been by 2 or more runs.

Take the PADRES -1.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Thus far, 10 of the 15 games between the 2 teams have had 8 or fewer runs.

Four of the last 5 games and 8 of the last 13 for the Diamondbacks have had totals of 8 or fewer runs.

Take UNDER 8.5 (+110).

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (95-43) clash with the San Diego Padres (77-63) Sunday in the finale of a 3-game set at Petco Park. First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Dodgers vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Dodgers lead 11-4

The Dodgers tattooed LHP Blake Snell Saturday for 5 ER on 7 H and 3 BB over 4 IP en route to an 8-4 victory. They’ve now won 3 of their last 4 games and are 20-10 over the last 30 games.

Los Angeles is a dangerous team to bet on because it has very little to play for as it’s 7 games ahead of the New York Mets for home-field advantage in the postseason.

San Diego has a shot to take the series with RHP Joe Musgrove on the rubber. Saturday’s loss snapped a 3-game win streak for the Friars as they slid into the 3rd NL wild-card spot with the loss and trail the Philadelphia Phillies by a half-game for the 2nd spot. They need this game more.

Dodgers at Padres projected starters

LHP Andrew Heaney vs. RHP Joe Musgrove

Heaney (2-2, 2.94 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.08 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 13.5 K/9 in 52 IP.

  • Allowed a season-high 6 ER in 5 1/3 IP against the San Francisco Giants Monday in his last start
  • Allowed 3 unearned runs over 4 2/3 IP to the Padres Aug. 6.

Musgrove (9-6, 3.16 ERA) makes his 26th start. He has a 1.08 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 8.9 K/9 in 153 2/3 IP.

  • Struggled to a 5.52 ERA across his last 3 starts
  • 1 start against Dodgers this year: 7 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB and 10 K on the road June 30

Dodgers at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 5, Dodgers 4

Money line

The Padres are a solid 28-21 against left-handed starters this year. As mentioned, they need this game more, and Musgrove knows that. He leads the Padres to victory. Take the PADRES (+105).

Run line/Against the spread

I’m not a fan of the juice on San Diego’s side. I do think they’ll get to Heaney, though. He has allowed at least 2 ER in 5 straight starts. So let’s go with PADRES OVER 1.5 TOTAL RUNS FIRST 5 INNINGS (-130). That’s a good price for something that shouldn’t be too tall of an order.

Over/Under

We’ve had 8 runs in both games of the series and in 5 straight matchups with these teams. The Dodgers are 8-1-1 O/U the last 10 games, and the Padres are 8-2. The wind is blowing out to right-center field at 8 mph. There is a 66% chance of rain to keep in mind, though, which is odd for Southern California. Take the OVER 7.5 (-130).

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (94-43) clash with the San Diego Padres (77-62) Saturday in the second game of a 3-game set at Petco Park. First pitch is set for 8:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Dodgers vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Dodgers lead 10-4

The Dodgers fell 5-4 in 10 innings to the Padres Friday night. The game was affected early on by rain, but there was a dry spell after the 5th inning as only the winning run was scored.

The Dodgers are a dangerous play this late in the season because they’re 7 games up for the top seed in the playoffs and 18 games up on the Padres in the NL West. Keep that in mind when placing bets on them because they’ll likely be favored every game without a lot of incentive.

The Padres are fighting to keep the 2nd wild-card spot. They trail the New York Mets by 10 games for the top wild-card berth and hold a 1/2 game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies for the 2nd spot. They appear to have righted the ship after the splash made by acquiring OF Juan Soto wasn’t as big of a cannonball as expected. San Diego is 7-3 over its last 10 games.

Dodgers at Padres projected starters

LHP Julio Urias vs. LHP Blake Snell

Urias (15-7, 2.29 ERA) makes his 27th start. He has a 0.95 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 in 145 2/3 IP.

  • Was solid in his most recent start against San Diego last Saturday: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 BB and 2 K
  • Has been a little better on the road this year: 9-4, 2.07 ERA vs. 6-3, 2.54 ERA at home

Snell (6-8, 3.73 ERA) makes his 20th start. He has a 1.29 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 and 12.2 K/9 in 99 IP.

  • 1 start vs. Dodgers this year: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 BB and 12 K in L.A. July 1
  • Strangely, has struggled at home: 3-6, 3.97 ERA, 11.9 K/9 vs. 3-2, 3.38 ERA, 12.6 K/9 on the road

Dodgers at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Dodgers 4, Padres 3

Money line

This one shapes up to be a pitcher’s duel, but the Dodgers have a distinct bullpen advantage. Snell rarely goes deep, and the Padres used relief ace LHP Josh Hader Friday. He’s very rarely used in back-to-backs. The Dodgers have the 3rd-best bullpen ERA in MLB (3.03); San Diego’s is 13th (3.78).

I’ll take DODGERS FIRST 9 INNINGS (-117).

Run line/Against the spread

I prefer San Diego’s run line, but I’m not really keen on the -140 tag. So since both pitchers allowed just 1 ER each in their respective starts against each team, let’s go an unconventional route. Both should go 5 or 6 innings, so let’s take UNDER 4.5 RUNS FIRST 5 INNINGS (-155) for a FULL UNIT and UNDER 3.5 RUNS FIRST 5 INNINGS (+102) for a HALF-UNIT.

Over/Under

Both teams have been Over teams the last 10 games. LA is 7-2-1, and San Diego is 8-2 O/U. We’ve had at least 8 runs in 4 straight between these teams, but I firmly believe this pitching matchup breaks that trend.

Go easily, because we’re going against the grain, but LEAN UNDER 7.5 (-102).

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (94-42) start a 3-game series against the San Diego Padres (76-62) Friday at Petco Park with 1st pitch at 9:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Dodgers vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Dodgers lead 10-3

Despite going 4-3 to begin September, the Dodgers enter this game as the best team in baseball with 7 more wins than the 2nd-best team in the NL and 6 up on the AL’s best team. Los Angeles went 22-6 in August.

The Padres have lost 3 of their last 5 games. San Diego is positioned in the No. 2 wild-card spot in the NL, though, they are only a half game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Dodgers at Padres projected starters

RHP Dustin May vs. RHP Mike Clevinger

May (1-2, 3.94 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has a 1.06 WHIP, 4.5 BB/9 and 10/1 K/9 in 16 IP.

  • Has pitched 5-plus innings in each of his first 3 starts
  • Sept. 2 vs. Padres: 5 IP, 4 H, 6 ER, 5 BB, 5 K

Clevinger (5-6, 3.96 ERA) makes his 18th start. He has a 1.18 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 7.8 K/9 in 88 2/3 IP.

  • Has allowed multiple ER in each of his last 4 starts
  • Sept. 4 at Dodgers: 3 1/3 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Dodgers at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Dodgers 8, Padres 4

Money line

AVOID taking the money line in this one as the Dodgers have -165 odds to win the game. I’d consider including the money line for Los Angeles if I’m doing a parlay, but I can’t recommend taking it straight up.

Run line/Against the spread

The Dodgers have seemingly had the Padres’ number this season, beating them in 10 of their first 13 meetings. DODGERS -1.5 (+100) is where I’m leaning as Los Angles has beaten San Diego by multiple runs in each of their 10 wins against them.

You can also take DODGERS -0.5 FIRST 5 INNINGS (-110) if you aren’t comfortable taking them to win by 2-plus runs.

Over/Under

When the Dodgers and the Padres have faced each other this season, it has typically been runs galore. OVER 8.5 RUNS (-108) is a solid pick with May potentially getting himself in trouble with walks and Clevinger with a career-worst K/9.

In San Diego’s last 7 games, the Over has hit in 6 of them. On the other side, Los Angeles has gone 6-0-1 to the Over in their last 7 games and the Over is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings between these teams.
