Ravens announce inactives for Week 6 matchup vs. Chargers

The Ravens announced their inactives for Week 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers

The Baltimore Ravens will take on the Los Angeles Chargers in what should be a very exciting Week 6 matchup. The two teams enter the game at 4-1 and lead their respective divisions, and both will be hungry to pick up their fifth win of the 2021 season.

Before the contest, Baltimore announced their inactives list and there weren’t a ton of surprises. The team decided to make running back Ty’Son Williams a healthy scratch for the second time this season in favor of fellow rusher Le’Veon Bell, and both wide receiver Sammy Watkins and offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley will miss the game with injuries.

The Ravens have gotten used to not having Stanley on the field, but losing Watkins is a huge blow. However the team is getting reinforcements, as wide receiver Rashod Bateman is set to make his NFL debut and offensive lineman Tyre Phillips is back after missing the previous four games with a knee injury.

Other than Williams, defensive tackle Broderick Washington, outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson, and safety Ar’Darius Washington seemingly round out the healthy scratches for Baltimore.

Ravens release final injury report for Week 6 matchup vs. Chargers

The Ravens released their final injury report ahead of their Week 6 game against the Chargers

The Baltimore Ravens have seen injuries become a key storyline of their 2021 season. The team has dealt with absences from multiple positions on both their offense and defense, but has still managed to put together an impressive 4-1 record through five weeks.

Entering Week 6, Baltimore has a few injuries that are worth monitoring, as certain players have already been ruled out for the contest while others are listed as questionable and will most likely be game-time decisions. Headlining the list are wide receiver Sammy Watkins and tackle Ronnie Stanley, who have both already been ruled out.

Safeties DeShon Elliott and Geno Stone appear on track to play after logging full sessions on Friday. Tackle Alejandro Villanueva was limited on Friday after not participating on Thursday, so hopefully he will be able to suit up in Week 6.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson returned to practice on Friday after missing Thursday with an illness, while defensive lineman Calais Campbell and outside linebacker Justin Houston both were awarded rest days on Friday.

Ravens release first injury report for Week 6 matchup vs. Chargers

The Ravens released their first injury report of the week ahead of their Week 6 matchup with the Chargers

The Baltimore Ravens are set to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6 of the 2021 season. It should be a very entertaining game as both Baltimore and Los Angeles boast 4-1 record through the first five games of the year and have extremely talented rosters on both sides of the football.

On Wednesday the Ravens released their first injury report of the week leading up to their matchup against Los Angeles. Baltimore held a walk-through practice, so the report reflects an estimation of how players would have participated if the team had practiced in a normal fashion.

Safeties DeShon Elliott (quad) and Geno Stone (thigh) would have been limited participants, beginning this week like they had left off last week. Offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva (knee) also would have been limited, but he was able to suit up in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts.

In terms of who didn’t practice, offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley (ankle) wouldn’t have suited up, and the same goes for Sammy Watkins (thigh). Outside linebacker Pernell McPhee got a rest day.

4 key things to know about Chargers’ Week 6 opponent: Ravens

Highlighting important things to know about the Chargers’ opponent ahead of Week 6.

Following a victory over the Browns, the Chargers are set to take on the Ravens in hopes of picking up their fourth-straight win and sitting atop the AFC conference on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 10:00 am PT.

Here are four key things to know about Los Angeles’ opponent ahead of the Week 6 bout:

Lamar is legit

Justin Herbert is among the front-runners for MVP, but Lamar Jackson is right up there with him. Without his left tackle, first-round pick wide receiver, and top three running backs, Jackson leads the NFL in yards per completion (13.6). In addition, he’s averaging a career-best 303.3 passing yards per game and is gaining over six yards per carry. Jackson’s skill set and talent are remarkable, as he has a great arm, is a naturally gifted thrower, can run, can extend plays, and sees the field well, which makes him challenging to plan for properly.

Meet the pass-catching triplet

Jackson has flourished as a passing threat, thanks to wide receivers Marquise Brown, Sammy Watkins, and tight end Mark Andrews. Brown leads the Ravens with 451 yards and has scored five touchdowns. Andrews has amassed 400 yards (most among TEs) on 29 catches. Watkins, who is questionable for this weekend’s game, has totaled 292 yards on 18 receptions.

Susceptible against the pass

The Ravens have proven to be threats when airing it out. Defending the pass, on the other hand, is one of the team’s weaknesses. Baltimore allows 315 passing yards per game (29th) and 8.3 yards per pass (26th). In addition, the team has been without starting cornerback Marcus Peters and free safety DeShon Elliott. Missed tackles have also been attributed to their woes, which is why running backs have found success in the passing game.

Rising rookie

The Chargers have a contender for Defensive Rookie of the Year in cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., and the Ravens happen to have one of their own. Edge defender Odafe Oweh has arguably been the team’s top defensive playmaker this. He has three sacks and two forced fumbles in five games so far, and he leads all NFL rookies in quarterback pressures with 18.

Chargers’ causes for concern vs. Ravens in Week 6

A look at some causes for concern as the Los Angeles Chargers gear up to face the Baltimore Ravens.

The Chargers are on the road for arguably the toughest matchup on the remainder of the schedule, as Los Angeles is set to take on the Ravens.

Like the Bolts, Baltimore currently sits with a 4-1 record, looking to establish superiority in the conference.

With that being said, here are a few reasons why the Chargers might be concerned ahead of the Week 6 bout with the Ravens.

Cousin of Clemson legend carving out his own path down at IMG

The Clemson Insider checked back in with the cousin of a Clemson legend.

Just like his cousin before him, Winston Watkins, Jr. is making a name for himself down in Florida. Though he’s just a freshman in the Class of 2025, Watkins is already playing for IMG Academy’s (Bradenton, Fla.) National Team.

Sammy Watkins’ season with the Baltimore Ravens is currently underway, but that hasn’t stopped him from giving some motivational advice to his younger cousin.

“He’s been telling me to stay focused, stay dedicated and keep getting good grades because if I don’t get good grades, I won’t be able to make it anywhere,” Watkins told TCI. “It’s hard work. You got to have hard work to make it. Some people don’t work at all that have a lot of talent…if you work hard, you can get anything you want in life.”

And Sammy would know.

Though he hasn’t heard from them since he camped at the Dabo Swinney Camp, Watkins understands the slow-played approach that Clemson takes to recruiting. He’s also been able to see it through the lens of his roommate and close friend, Carnell Tate, who is being recruited by Clemson and wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham.

First off, there are not many freshmen who can say they’re playing at the level Watkins is.

“It’s been pretty good,” he said. “I’m glad to be able to play with all these great players. It’s a blessing, honestly. A lot of kids can’t be in the position I’m in and do what I do. I feel like I’m at the best level of any high school level you can play on.

Before he arrived at IMG, Watkins received offers from Texas A&M, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Central Michigan. He picked up an offer from the University of Florida and has spoken with Penn State after he arrived in Bradenton.

While Watkins has some impressive Division I offers himself, he gets to play with some of the best players in the country every single day.

“Every day I’m going up against the best of the best,” Watkins said. “If I don’t have a dog fight with them, I ain’t getting better. Every day I get better with them.”

Iron sharpens iron.

“They teach me things that I don’t even really know, just from being a more mature, older person in life,” he said when asked what he’s learned from his teammates. “They teach me some things about the game, real life, all that, especially my roommate, Carnell. He teaches me a lot.”

As mentioned above, Tate’s recruitment has allowed Watkins to take a step back and learn from the 2023 four-star receiver, but also compete with him.

“It’s kind of like an inspiration for me because I look up to him,” Watkins said. “He does great things on the field and off the field. His grades look great. He’s like a great role model for me. He’s just shown me the right way to go.”

WR Sammy Watkins, OL Ben Cleveland leave with injuries vs. Colts

The Ravens saw both guard Ben Cleveland and wide receiver Sammy Watkins leave their Week 5 game with injuries

The Baltimore Ravens are looking to pick up their fourth win of the 2021 season as they face the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football. While the game hasn’t gone as planned for Baltimore so far, and they will hope to climb back into the contest as it continues.

However, they could have to embark on their second half journey without two of their offensive contributors in guard Ben Cleveland and wide receiver Sammy Watkins. Baltimore announced that Cleveland is doubtful to return with a knee injury, while Watkins is questionable to return with a hamstring injury.

Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic later reported that Cleveland has been ruled out for the game.

A bunch of former Tigers shined in Week 3 of the NFL season — including Mike Williams and Hunter Renfrow among others — while there was a heavy Clemson presence in Jacksonville with Trevor Lawrence, Tyler Shatley and the Jaguars squaring off against Isaiah Simmons, DeAndre Hopkins and the Cardinals.

WATCH: Chiefs receivers tackle Ravens WR Sammy Watkins in pregame warmups

#Chiefs receivers Tyreek Hill, Demarcus Robinson and Mecole Hardman ambushed #Ravens WR Sammy Watkins during pregame warmups. 😂 😂 😂

A trio of Kansas City Chiefs receivers ambushed their former teammate during pregame warmups ahead of “Sunday Night Football.”

After spending three seasons in Kansas City, WR Sammy Watkins left in free agency to join the Baltimore Ravens this offseason. The locker room in Kansas City is a tight-knit group and especially so in the wide receiver room. So, when the Chiefs’ receivers traveled to M&T Bank Stadium, you just know they had something special in store for their former teammate.

Ahead of the game, during pregame warmups, Chiefs receivers Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson ran up to Watkins. They acted like they were just going to dap him up and hug him, but they all three combined to playfully and safely tackle him to the ground.

Check it out:

How’s that for some pregame antics between former teammates. The Chiefs’ receiver room clearly still has a lot of love for Watkins even though he’s playing in Baltimore. The team does have that sign as you enter the facility that reads, “Come in as teammates, leave as family.” Well, family is exactly what Watkins is to Hill, Hardman and Robinson.
