Top 2024 linebacker recruit excited about Florida’s offer

The Gators are getting ahead of the recruiting game by offering a scholarship to the top 2024 linebacker recruit.

It is never too early to get ahead in the college football recruiting game and the Florida Gators got a head start on filing in its 2024 class on Thursday when it offered 5-star linebacker Sammy Brown out of Jefferson (Georgia) a scholarship, according to GatorsOnline. The 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pound high school sophomore is the top-ranked player at his position and the No. 8 athlete overall.

UF is not the only team in the fray so far, as Brown has already paid visits to big-name programs like the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes and Clemson Tigers. Despite the lack of face-to-face contact with Florida, the prep prospect described his flourishing relationship with the Gators’ coaching staff and how the offer came about.

“I have been talking with coach (Jamar) Chaney a good bit lately, keeping him updated on track and all that other stuff. They actually offered me through my dad over the phone. I was taking a final when it happened.”

His father Mike Brown played for the Furman Paladins from 1992 to 1996 and was known for his tough style of play, recording 92 total tackles and eight sacks over his career as an outside linebacker/defensive end. Now the offensive line coach at his son’s high school, he has played a large role in the younger Brown’s recruitment.

“They have kind of been talking through my dad because he’s one of my coaches. It wasn’t totally out of the blue.”

The good news for Gators fans:

“I like what Florida is doing and really look forward to getting down for a visit… I really like the culture that coach Napier brings to their program. Coach Napier actually graduated from the same school as my parents, so having that familiarity is pretty big.

Brown is currently assigned a five-star rating by the 247Sports Composite while no breakdown rankings are available — though 247Sports has him as a four-star recruit who is the No. 6 player overall and No. 1 at his position nationally — while the On3 Consensus at Nos. 8 and 1, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the Gators less than 1% chance of signing him, with the Bulldogs out in front with a 30.1% chance of signing him.

5-star Clemson target, nation’s top-ranked LB gives the latest

One of only two prospects in the 2024 class with an offer from Clemson to date is Sammy Brown, a five-star prospect from Jefferson (Ga.) High School who is ranked as the No. 1 linebacker in the country for his class according to multiple recruiting services.

Brown, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound rising junior, became the first 2024 recruit to earn an offer from the Tigers when he picked up the offer while on campus for a March 12 visit. He then returned to Clemson to take in the football team’s final spring practice on April 6 prior to the April 9 spring game.

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with Brown to get the latest on his recruitment and where things currently stand with Clemson.

Brown, who boasts around two dozen total offers, feels the Tigers are one of the teams recruiting him most heavily at this point in the process.

“Clemson’s one of the harder schools along with Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State,” he said. “All schools have been pretty hard but those might be the standouts.”

Following Brown’s aforementioned visit to Clemson for the spring practice, he was able to have dinner with defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Wes Goodwin, and the two continue to stay in touch every week or so through Brown’s father, Michael, who is the associate head football coach at Jefferson.

Goodwin and co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Mickey Conn recently checked in on Brown, stopping by Jefferson High during the ongoing spring evaluation period to watch one of his weight training periods.

“It was pretty big for me for Coach Goodwin and Coach Conn to come to the workout because they could be anywhere else in the country, but they decided to be with me,” Brown said, “so it was a pretty big honor.”

At the time he spoke with TCI, Brown had yet to plan out his summer visit schedule, though a return trip to Tiger Town is certainly on his mind.

“We actually haven’t been able to sit down and look at the schedule for this summer,” he said. “But Clemson is a place that we definitely want to get back to this summer.”

Where do the Tigers stand with Brown right now heading into the summer before his junior year?

“I really like Clemson, it’s one of the more elite colleges in football right now,” he said. “I really like their culture and what they’re doing and have done.”

Brown is rated as a five-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite, which ranks him as the No. 1 linebacker and No. 9 overall player in the 2024 class regardless of position.

The Insider Report: Latest on a top Texas QB, elite OL, nation’s No. 1 LB & more

It’s time for this week’s edition of The Insider Report.

We hope everyone had a great weekend.

Lone Star State gunslinger getting a lot of attention from Tigers

After Dylan Raiola committed to Ohio State last week, Clemson’s quarterback recruiting board has started to take shape. It’s reasonable to assume that Clemson has since shifted its focus to Willis (Texas) four-star DJ Lagway.

Of course, the Tigers have shown or expressed interest in other 2024 QB prospects like Jadyn Davis, Dante Reno, Daniel Kaelin, James Resar and Jake Merklinger — to name a few — but the attention has begun to shift in Lagway’s direction.

We first identified Lagway as a potential target for Clemson dating back to February. Since then, he made a largely anticipated unofficial visit to campus, while Clemson offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter has now made multiple trips to see the Lone Star State gunslinger in the month of May alone.

“They want me to get up there this summer and camp and stuff like that,” Lagway recently told The Clemson Insider. “Coach Streeter came out to one of my spring practices. He said he was very impressed. I’ve been talking to Coach (Dabo) Swinney a lot, almost two times a week. We talk a lot, me and Coach Swinney.”

The fact that Lagway gets to talk pretty frequently with Clemson’s head coach isn’t something he takes lightly. Lagway told us that he feels like the Tigers have made him a priority in their 2024 recruiting class and that he’s one of their top guys in their class.

“That shows that they’re very interested in me and that they’re very high on my list,” he said, “because the interest level has been there from the beginning. That’s a big part in my recruitment.”

Lagway indicated that a scholarship offer from Clemson could come when he visits campus next month. He’s had those conversations about a potential offer dating back to when he visited last month.

“That was a conversation we had from the very beginning since I got there when I got down there on campus when I went to Coach Swinney’s house,” Lagway said. “It’s just the way they run things, they just want to keep the process smooth and keep the way they’ve been doing things.”

“That would be huge,” he continued. “That would be a blessing to have an offer from Clemson and all that good stuff. It would change a lot with my top five.”

Some names to know ahead of Swinney Camp

TCI wanted to pass along some names that we’re tracking ahead of next month’s Dabo Swinney Camp.

While we’ll introduce some new information about some other rising juniors like Kam Pringle and Sammy Brown in this week’s edition of the Insider Report, the names that follow are important ones to know when Clemson starts dishing out offers come June 1.

Those names include — St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) four-star wide receiver Chance Robinson, Grimsley (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star WR Alex Taylor and Webb School of Knoxville (Tenn.) four-star athlete Markeis Barrett.

While Robinson hasn’t talked to anyone from Clemson, the Tigers reached out to his head coach and sent him a message saying that they want him to come up and do a workout with them.

Clemson wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham also followed him on Twitter not too long ago.

Robinson said that he’ll likely camp at Clemson next month and show them what he’s capable of. Robinson (6-1, 180) ranks as the No. 12 wide receiver and the nation’s No. 76 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

As for Taylor, he’s kept in pretty consistent contact with Grisham since he unofficially visited Clemson back in March. Taylor is unsure when he’ll return to Clemson, but he’s been chatting with Clemson’s receivers coach about returning for camp this summer. While nothing is set in stone, June 11 is certainly a date worth keeping in mind.

Rivals considers Taylor (6-3, 175) as the No. 33 receiver and the No. 204 overall prospect nationally in the class of 2024.

Last but certainly not least is Barrett, who told us that Clemson wants him to come up for camp this summer, as the Tigers have talked multiple times with his coaches.

“They want me to come down, so they can show me around their facilities and also their campus,” Barrett said. “I am also going to camp there (this summer). From what my coaches told me, is that they want to build a good relationship with me throughout their recruiting process with me and also they want me to come down as much as I can.”

Barrett (6-1, 170) ranks as the No. 33 athlete and No. 3 prospect in the state of Tennessee for his class.

Fast-rising Alabama receiver planning to camp at Clemson

A fast-rising wide receiver from the state of Alabama is planning to visit Clemson in June, in hopes that he can earn an offer from the Tigers.

“I’m going to camp either June 1st or 2nd and see if I pull the offer,” Dozier told The Clemson Insider via text message.

Moody (Ala.) 2023 three-star Davion Dozier is in constant contact with Grisham and is focusing on building a relationship with Clemson’s wide receivers coach.

Clemson’s history at the receiver position is intriguing to Dozier, who describes himself as a big target, who can go up and get the ball and make all the necessary plays.

“He told me that he loves everything,” Dozier said of Grisham. “He told me that he’s been keeping track since my sophomore year. That’s when he first started and he told me that I’m getting bigger and better.”

The latest on Clemson and nation’s No. 1 LB

TCI recently checked back in with the nation’s top-ranked linebacker in the 2024 class to get an update on his recruitment and where things stand with Clemson.

Jefferson (Ga.) five-star Sammy Brown – the No. 1 linebacker in his class, per multiple recruiting services – is one of just two prospects in his class to have earned an offer from the Tigers to date.

Brown (6-2, 220) picked up the offer while on a March 12 visit to Clemson, then returned to campus on April 6 to take in the Tigers’ final spring practice prior to the April 9 spring game.

After the aforementioned practice, Brown had dinner with defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Wes Goodwin, and the two continue to stay in touch every week or so through Brown’s father, Michael, who is the associate head football coach at Jefferson.

Goodwin and co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Mickey Conn stopped by Jefferson to check in on Brown during the current spring evaluation period and went to one of his weight training periods. Brown told TCI that “it was a pretty big honor” that the coaches came by to see him work out when they could have been anywhere else in the country.

At the time TCI spoke with Brown, he hadn’t been able to sit down and look at his summer schedule, but said Clemson “is a place that we definitely want to get back to this summer.”

Brown, who boasts around two dozen offers, cited Clemson as one of the schools recruiting him the hardest at this point in the process along with Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State.

As for where Clemson currently stands with the coveted linebacker, Brown said he really likes Clemson, its culture and “what they’re doing and have done.”

“It’s one of the more elite colleges in football right now,” he added.

Update on elite 2024 OL Kam Pringle

TCI also recently caught up with another elite prospect in the 2024 class – Woodland High School (Dorchester, S.C.) four-star offensive lineman Kam Pringle, who is ranked as the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country for his class according to both Rivals and the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Clemson stopped by Pringle’s school earlier this year, and he has been communicating periodically with offensive line coach Thomas Austin, who told Pringle that he’s making plans to travel to Woodland and see Pringle at some point during his team’s spring practices that are getting underway this week.

Pringle (6-7, 315) told TCI that his relationship with Austin has “been growing” and he appreciates the transparency that Austin has with him during their conversations.

“Every time we talk, he tries to make sure I feel as if he’s keeping it real and not changing how things are or portraying it to be something else,” Pringle said. “So, he tries to be straightforward and as transparent as possible.”

Pringle most recently visited Clemson on March 12 and said that while he doubts he’ll compete at the Dabo Swinney Camp again in June (he camped last summer), he’ll likely return to campus for another visit this summer.

Pringle, who has picked up around two dozen offers, named Auburn, Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio State, Michigan State and Florida as some of the schools he feels are coming after him the hardest right now.

As of now, Pringle said, he expects to be committed to a school before his senior year and is thinking he’ll make a decision in January or sometime at the beginning of 2023.

Clemson hasn’t yet offered Pringle, or any other offensive lineman in the 2024 class for that matter, but Pringle told us the Tigers are “definitely” one of his top 10 schools right now.

5-star, nation’s No. 1 LB talks latest Clemson visit, recruitment

The nation’s top-ranked linebacker in the 2024 class was back on campus at Clemson last Wednesday for another unofficial visit.

Jefferson (Ga.) High School five-star Sammy Brown – also a top-10 national prospect in his class, regardless of position, according to both 247Sports and the 247Sports Composite rankings – took in the Tigers’ final spring practice prior to last Saturday’s Orange & White Spring Game.

Following Wednesday’s practice, Brown (6-2, 220) was able to have dinner with defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Wes Goodwin.

“We got there just in time for team meetings and then watched their practice. Afterwards we went and ate dinner with Coach Goodwin,” Brown told The Clemson Insider. “It was an overall great visit. The practice was more preparation for the spring game than anything, so it was a really chill day. Great to catch up with Coach Goodwin and others.”

Brown liked seeing how the Tigers’ practice had a more relaxed vibe to it as they put the finishing touches on their preparation for the spring game.

“(Wednesday’s) practice was a way more laid-back practice, but they still got some work in,” he said. “Everyone’s joking around a little bit more. And that’s a good thing to have in your culture. They’re familiar with each other and are able to joke around with each other.”

On March 12, when he was previously on campus before last week’s visit, Brown became the first prospect in the class of 2024 to earn an offer from the Tigers.

Brown, who has been camping at Clemson since he was 10 years old, was extremely honored to earn that distinction. Usually, Clemson waits until June 1 of a prospect’s junior year to hand out an offer, but there is enough familiarity between Brown and the Tigers’ staff and a strong enough relationship in place that Dabo Swinney made an exception for offering him.

What was the main message that Brown took away from his conversations with Swinney and Goodwin during last Wednesday’s visit?

“Coach Goodwin and Swinney basically kept the message of ‘we are really interested in you but take your time,’” he said. “They want me to have fun seeing all the other places but want me to know that they’re highly interested. They also said just to keep working in high school and stay focused on that for the time being.”

Brown, who also made multiple gameday visits to Clemson last season, is once again looking to participate in the Swinney Camp this summer and said he might even make it back to Tiger Town sooner than the camp rolls around.

Before visiting Clemson last Wednesday, Brown went to Georgia the prior weekend to watch its scrimmage and also visited Alabama last Monday, when he picked up an offer from the Crimson Tide. Following the Clemson visit, he traveled to Oklahoma on Friday, and he said he might make a trip to Ohio State but is still figuring that out.

The plan for Brown, he said, is to probably determine a top-five schools list sometime during his junior year and then make his commitment at some point after that.

“As of right now still just taking everything in,” Brown said of the recruiting process. “We wanna be able to see as much as possible before we make a decision so we know that we’re making the best decision.”

Brown is considered a five-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite, which ranks him as the No. 1 linebacker and No. 9 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.

The Insider Report: Latest on Vizzina, nation’s No. 1 LB, Klubnik’s former teammate & more

It’s time for this week’s edition of The Insider Report.

We hope everyone had a great weekend.

Top QB target set to make monumental decision Tuesday

On the eve of a monumental announcement for Clemson’s top quarterback prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, The Clemson Insider is calling for Tuesday to be a sunny day in Tiger Town.

Briarwood Christian (Ala.) four-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina announced Sunday that he will be announcing his college decision come Tuesday afternoon. The talented signal-caller is ready to announce his decision, as he will choose between Clemson, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Auburn, Ohio State and Georgia.

We have gathered enough information to make our sunny forecast for Vizzina, who made two visits to Clemson this past week.

After reaching the Elite 11 finals with his performance at Carrollton High School on Sunday, April 3, Vizzina made his way down to Clemson, where he took in spring practice that following Monday.

Clemson checked all the boxes for Vizzina again, but he wanted to head home to Birmingham and digest the visit before making any potential decision. While he indicated to us that he didn’t know when his next trip to Clemson would be, he made an unannounced visit for the team’s Orange & White Spring Game on Saturday, April 9.

Now that Vizzina is ready to announce his decision, we know that those two visits definitely played a big factor in his decision-making.

Remember, we have long-maintained that Vizzina was and has been the top quarterback on Clemson’s board for quite some time now. While the particular session of Dabo Swinney Camp wasn’t open to the media, we’ve long been told that Vizzina went toe-to-toe with Arch Manning in a “throw-off.”

Both Swinney and Brandon Streeter let Vizzina know that day that he had moved up in their respective class of 2023 quarterbacks rankings and was a top-five guy for them both.

While Clemson only offered the five-star quarterback out of Isidore Newman (New Orleans, La.) that day, Vizzina’s performance, his undeniable moxie and the way he carries himself made a lasting impression on the Tigers.

So much so that Swinney decided to pull the trigger on an offer for Vizzina, even when they still were very much involved in the Manning sweepstakes. Mutual interest between the two sides has since waned and Vizzina quickly and not so quietly became Clemson’s main and only focus.

Every time he meets with Clemson’s head coach there’s not only a big emphasis on Vizzina being “his guy,” but that he’s a “perfect fit” for the Tigers as well.

We have long identified Vizzina as an option for Clemson, even dating back to when he held a handful of Power Five offers from schools like Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Kentucky, Michigan State and Mississippi State.

His trajectory from camp star to top target didn’t happen overnight, but between him being in attendance for Clemon’s season-opener against Georgia in Charlotte and Streeter making consistent visits to Briarwood, it was only a matter of time before he was realized as one of Clemson’s top options.

Clemson was one of the first schools to show interest in Vizzina and it was because of his left tackle, who is now at Clemson, Trent Howard.

In a conversation with TCI in February, Briarwood head coach Matthew Forester recalled back in 2020 during the shutdown when he was at home and former Clemson defensive tackles coach and recruiting coordinator Todd Bates called. Bates asked Forester to tell him about his quarterback.

After Tuesday, the rest will likely be history.

The latest on 4-star WR, Klubnik’s teammate

Following Saturday’s Orange & White spring game, TCI spoke to Westlake (Texas) 2023 four-star wide receiver Jaden Greathouse, who made his way to Clemson for his first-ever campus visit.

Greathouse is the former high school teammate of Clemson freshman quarterback Cade Klubnik.

“It was great to spend time with all the coaches,” Greathouse said. “I got to view campus and all that. I got to hang out with Cade a little bit too. I got to have a private meeting with Coach (Tyler Grisham) afterward. I was there pretty late around 8ish. We were just talking and all that stuff. They didn’t offer me and they want me to come back up in the summer.”

Before his visit, according to Greathouse, Clemson told him that they don’t offer until you come up and see campus. He was kind of expecting to get an offer once he got up there. Greathouse said he “probably will” get back up to Clemson this summer.

“(Coach Grisham) told me that he wanted to offer me, but Coach Swinney told him to wait because they want to see me run routes for them before,” he said.

Greathouse still needs to take a couple of visits and see where he is in his recruitment before he gets back to Clemson. Though, he said if the timing works, he’ll “definitely” aim to get back up to Clemson again and keep working on that.

Update on the nation’s top-ranked LB

The nation’s No. 1 linebacker in the 2024 class returned to Clemson for another visit last week.

Jefferson (Ga.) High School five-star Sammy Brown was back on campus last Wednesday to take in the Tigers’ final spring practice before Saturday’s spring game. It marked his second trip to Tiger Town in as many months as he was also on campus March 12, when he became the first class of 2024 prospect to receive an offer from the Tigers.

TCI caught up with the 6-foot-2, 220-pound rising junior following his latest visit to Clemson.

“We got there just in time for team meetings and then watched their practice. Afterwards we went and ate dinner with Coach Goodwin (defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Wes Goodwin),” Brown told The Clemson Insider. “It was an overall great visit. The practice was more preparation for the spring game than anything, so it was a really chill day. Great to catch up with Coach Goodwin and others.”

Brown said the main message he took away from his conversations with Goodwin and Dabo Swinney is that the Tigers remain really interested in him but want him to take his time as he goes through the recruiting process and enjoy seeing different schools. They also told him to just keep working in high school and stay focused on that for the time being.

Before visiting Clemson on Wednesday, Brown went to Georgia the prior weekend to watch its scrimmage and also visited Alabama last Monday, when he picked up an offer from the Crimson Tide. Following the Clemson visit, he traveled to Oklahoma on Friday and said he might make it to Ohio State but is still figuring that out.

As for when he will be back at Clemson, Brown – who has been camping at Clemson since he was 10 years old – said he will try to participate in the Swinney Camp again this June and possibly even get back on campus before then.

The plan for Brown, he said, is to probably have a top-five schools list sometime during his junior year and then make his commitment sometime after that.

Clemson in a great spot with top DE target

Among the headlining visitors on hand for Saturday’s spring game was David Ojiegbe, a four-star defensive end in the 2023 class from St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C.

From what we have gathered, Ojiegbe’s visit to Clemson on Saturday went very well, and Ojiegbe himself told us that he enjoyed his time while on campus for the game.

If you saw TCI’s story on Ojiegbe entering the spring game visit, you know that the Tigers were already, in his words, “definitely at the top” of his list going in, and we believe Saturday’s visit only strengthened Clemson’s standing with him.

Ojiegbe also visited Clemson for the program’s second junior day of the year in early March, when he scored an offer from the Tigers. He is ranked as high as the No. 18 edge defender and No. 162 overall prospect in the 2023 class by 247Sports.

Ojiegbe – who goes to the same high school that Clemson redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Tre Williams attended – explained to TCI recently why he is so high on Clemson.

“Just the family environment and just how it’s a small school and (defensive ends) coach Lemanski (Hall) is a players’ coach,” Ojiegbe said. “I’ve been talking to Coach Wes too and he’s been giving me good vibes, talking about the scheme and everything. He’s a very down-to-earth guy, I like how he coaches. He seems like a player-coach also. I also have my boy down there, Tré Williams, I have a good relationship with him, so I definitely feel like I’d be at home down there. I liked it a lot. I liked Coach Dabo.”

Ojiegbe is in the process of narrowing down his recruitment and told us he’s currently focused on schools like Miami, North Carolina, N.C. State, Michigan, Maryland and LSU, in addition to Clemson.

Update on 4-star Texas TE Reid Mikeska

We wanted to give an update on a four-star class of 2023 tight end from the Lone Star State who was slated to attend Clemson’s spring game but couldn’t end up making the trip.

Bridgeland (Texas) High School’s Reid Mikeska was supposed to be at the spring game, but his flight got canceled.

TCI learned through a source that Clemson felt good about its chances with him heading into the planned visit. The source was unsure whether the visit would lead to a commitment from Mikeska, but the Tigers felt good about their chances with him, especially since he already considered Clemson one of his top schools coming off his visit for Clemson’s “spring elite day” on March 5, when the Tigers offered him.

“Easily one of my top schools, for sure,” Mikeska said to TCI after the visit. “They definitely helped themselves with this visit. They were already one of my top schools without offering me and I saw the campus and they offered. So, that moves them up even higher.”

Mikeska dropped his top-12 schools list on March 27, and included Clemson, of course, along with Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, LSU, Miami, Michigan State, Texas Tech, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina and Florida.

Alabama extends offer to top LB in 2024 class Sammy Brown

Alabama officially offers the top-ranked LB from the 2023 recruiting class.

With the 2022 class finalized and some of them already being on campus, Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide football program turn their focus to recruiting the 2023 class with interesting in the 2024 class.

Yesterday, the top linebacker in the 2024 recruiting cycle, [autotag]Sammy Brown[/autotag], received an offer while visiting the University of Alabama campus.

Brown has received interest and offers from numerous other big-time programs.

The Georgia-native is not currently expected to be leaning or favoring a certain school over another.

With two more seasons of high school football remaining for Brown, he has plenty of time left before he has to make a decision. A player of his caliber will definitely receive more offers and have the opportunity to take more visits.

5-star linebacker ‘genuinely shocked’ to earn Clemson’s first 2024 offer

The nation’s top-ranked linebacker, and one of the top prospects in the 2024 class regardless of position — Jefferson (Ga.) High School’s Sammy Brown — earned an offer from Clemson Saturday.

“It’s definitely an honor,” Brown told The Clemson Insider Saturday. “Clemson is an elite program and don’t five out a whole lot of offers. They are genuinely interested in me and have always given me great hospitality.

Brown went into Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney’s office, where he received the good news.

“I was genuinely shocked because I was not expecting that offer that early,” he said. They had already told me that I had an offer waiting after this semester ended. It was very shocking and exciting. I couldn’t stop from smiling.”

He became the first player in the class of 2024 to earn an offer from the Tigers. Brown, who has been camping at Clemson since he was 10-years-old is honored to earn that distinction. Usually, Clemson waits until June 1 of a prospect’s junior year to hand out an offer.

“It’s definitely a blessing, but motivation at the same time,” Brown said, “to keep working and keep getting better so that blessings like this continue to come in.”

Brown made multiple gameday visits to Clemson this past season and participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp this past summer, but this visit was different for obvious reasons.

He and his family got the orange carpet treatment, got to see the behind-the-scenes of Clemson and also got to meet with the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach — Wesley Goodwin — for the first time.

It was a great experience and it was super fun,” Brown said. “They have great hospitality and great coaching staff. We were able to go over the basics of Clemson’s defense and kind of go over some of the schemes. We were also able to watch one of their spring practices.”

“It was great to be able to talk to Coach Wesley in person and talk some linebacker stuff with him,” Brown continued. “He is crazy smart when it comes to football and really knows what he’s talking about. He’s a really cool guy and a great hire for Clemson.”

With all that being said, where does Clemson currently stand in his recruitment?

They have a great program and a great culture,” he said. “My recruitment is still 100% open to everyone and I’m really just trying to see everything before I narrow down my choices. I definitely want to get back up to Clemson again though.”

In addition to Clemson, Notre Dame and Michigan State have offered Brown this year, joining schools such as Oklahoma, Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Auburn, Georgia Tech, NC State and Virginia Tech on his offer list.

While things can always change, right now, Brown doesn’t expect to make his commitment decision until during his senior season or possibly after it. He is scheduled to visit Ohio State and Oklahoma in April and intends to check out other schools this spring as well.

The nation’s top-ranked linebacker and one of the top prospects in the 2024 class regardless of positions reported an offer from Clemson on Sunday evening.

Jefferson (Ga.) High School five-star Sammy Brown announced the offer from the Tigers via Twitter.

Hearing that an offer from Clemson looks to be in the cards means a lot to Sammy, the No. 1 linebacker and No. 5 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports.

“It’s really amazing to know that an offer from Clemson is coming,” he told The Clemson Insider last month.“That’s always been a historically great program and has always produced great linebackers!”

The nation’s top-ranked linebacker, and one of the top prospects in the 2024 class regardless of position – Jefferson (Ga.) High School’s Sammy Brown – has been hearing from Clemson through his dad/coach.

While the Tigers can’t actively reach out to Brown yet because of NCAA rules and the fact he is a sophomore, he told The Clemson Insider that members of Clemson’s staff have been communicating with his father, Michael Brown, who is the associate head football coach at Jefferson.

“He has been communicating with (strength and conditioning) coach (Joey) Batson just through being friends,” Sammy said. “Along with (defensive coordinator/linebackers) coach (Wes) Goodwin a good bit!”

Of course, Clemson typically doesn’t begin offering prospects until the summer before their junior year, and thus the Tigers haven’t started offering 2024 recruits to date.

However, based on what Goodwin has conveyed to Sammy’s dad, Sammy is anticipating an eventual offer from Clemson.

“Just to keep working and keep getting better,” Sammy said of Goodwin’s message to him via his dad. “And to expect an offer as long as my grades stay up!”

“Everything is still wide open,” he said of where his recruitment stands at this point in the process, “and I want to try to get to some of the schools that recently offered me.”

Sammy camped at Clemson last summer, returned to campus for the Boston College game in early October and told TCI he “definitely” plans to make it back to Tiger Town sometime this spring and/or summer.

A multi-sport athlete, Sammy won a state championship in wrestling earlier this month and also competes in track and field.

Sooners send out offer to fast rising 2024 two-way player Sammy Brown

2024 star out of Jefferson, Georgia Sammy Browns gets an offer to play for the Oklahoma Sooners.

While as a collective, Sooner fans and Sooner media alike are thinking about the possible ways the Sooners can close out the 2022 recruiting cycle with a bang, Venables and his staff are on the way to getting recruiting back on schedule as they have already begun to send out offers for 2024.

One of those offers goes to Sammy Brown, a running back and linebacker out of Jefferson, Georgia. Brown slots in at number five nationally and has offers from Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and South Carolina to go with his Oklahoma offer.

It’s only a matter of time before other big programs across the country submit their names into the mix for a prospect who’s very likely to be a top 50 prospect nationally.

While Brown is a two-way player, the Sooners see him as a linebacker as evidenced by him tagging Venables and new defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Ted Roof in his tweet confirming his offer.

Brown looks like a throwback linebacker that will make Sooners fans do a double-take and have them thinking they are watching a clone of Sooners legend Brian Bosworth with a mullet that one could only find straight out of the 80’s.

The Sooners look to be major players in the linebacker market constantly with Venables at the helm. Venables is a former linebacker himself and has coached some very talented linebackers to the highest honors in college football. He and Ted Roof will have a stacked cupboard of linebacker talent over the next few years and positioning themselves to add a player like Sammy Brown will only keep that wealth of talent stocked and ready to go.
