Watch: 5-star Clemson commit scores 4 touchdowns in season opener

Check out Friday night’s highlights of Clemson’s top recruit in its 2024 class.

A Clemson commit hit pay dirt four times in his team’s season opener on Friday night.

Playing for Jefferson High School (Jefferson, Georgia), Sammy Brown scored four touchdowns on the ground against Alpharetta, helping his team win 34-24 to move to 1-0 on the season.

Although he has been primarily recruited as a linebacker, Brown has been lethal as a tailback in high school, rushing for 1,459 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior in 2022.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound prospect committed to Clemson in June and is the No. 1 linebacker recruit in the class of 2024, according to 247Sports rankings.

Here are some of Brown’s highlights from Friday night’s game:

Where Clemson ranks in ESPN’s updated 2024 recruiting class rankings

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson coaching staff are building a strong 2024 recruiting class.

The Clemson football program year after year recruits with the best of the best, and things are not changing in the 2024 recruiting class.

ESPN does their class recruiting rankings a little differently than others, updating them far less than 247Sports or On3, whose class rankings are regularly updated as commitments are announced. ESPN recently released their updated class rankings ($), with Clemson just outside of the top ten, ranking No.11.

“The Tigers have built a strong foundation for their 2024 class with several ESPN 300 commitments, including one of the top TE prospects in Christian Bentancur. He can be a well-rounded playmaker with his size (6-5, 240), aggressiveness as a blocker and hands and body control as a receiver. Bryant Wesco is a sharp route runner from Texas who can create separation and get open with his quickness. Landing Sammy Brown out of Georgia was a huge pickup. A well-rounded five-star athlete who excels in wrestling and track, Brown can be a sideline-to-sideline playmaking presence. Noah Dixon is a safety with good ball skills who can also support the run well with his tackling abilities. Tavoy Feagin out of Florida is another nice four-star addition to the secondary, as he is a corner with excellent quickness who is also not afraid to mix it up and be physical.”

The Tigers currently have 17 commits in the 2024 class, headlined by five stars Sammy Brown and Bryant Wesco. They have the second-highest-ranked class in the ACC right now, with Florida State ahead with the No.6 ranked class.

More work still needs to be done, but this has been an excellent start for Swinney and his coaching staff.

247Sports on Clemson’s ACC leading 2024 recruiting class

Clemson has the top 2024 recruiting class in the ACC so far.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football staff have done a great job recruiting in the 2024 class, with the Tigers currently holding the top class in the ACC so far.

Two top-tier recruits highlight Clemson’s 2024 class in linebacker Sammy Brown and wide receiver Bryant Wesco, each with the talent to be a future star for the program. The latest addition to the Tigers class was four-star cornerback Corian Gipson, who the Tigers fended off Texas for.

Things are looking great for the Tigers right now, with 247Sports’ recent article discussing the ACC football recruiting rankings having some good things to say about the Tigers’ class. Here is what writer Chance Linton had to say about Clemson’s class.

National rank: No. 8

Total commits: 17

Headliners: 5-star LB Sammy Brown (No. 5 overall, No. 1 LB); 5-star WR Bryant Wesco (No. 9 overall, No. 3 WR); 4-star WR TJ Moore (No. 80 overall); 4-star TE Christian Bentancur (No. 99 overall)

Dabo Swinney and his coaching staff are assembling another elite class as nine of the Tigers’ 17 commits are rated as four- or five-star prospects, including seven players ranked in the Top247. That includes four players ranked among the top 100 nationally, headlined by a pair of five-stars in Brown and Wesco, who committed on back-to-back days in early June following their official visits to the campus, kicking off a big summer for the Tigers.

Another elite class sounds great, but there is still work to do for Clemson in the 2024 class. The Tigers can still climb these rankings further with the right signings.

Where Clemson’s 2024 class is ranked on each major recruiting site

All three major recruiting sites have Clemson’s 2024 class as the No. 1 in the ACC.

With national signing day less than seven months away, Clemson’s 2024 recruiting class has emerged as one of the best in the nation.

The Tigers have 17 commitments in the 2024 cycle, highlighted by five-star linebacker Sammy Brown and five-star wide receiver Bryant Wesco.

There are still some holes in the class, such as the offensive line, where the Tigers have just one commitment as of Wednesday morning. And as Dabo Swinney mentioned last week, he doesn’t expect to go after a quarterback recruit this year in hopes that Christopher Vizzina can redshirt and essentially be that signal-caller for multiple years.

That said, here is how each major recruiting website ranks the Tigers’ 2024 haul thus far:

Clemson’s 2024 recruiting class so far grouped by position

Here is a look at all 17 current Clemson commits in the 2024 class grouped by their positions.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program have been among the top teams recruiting in the 2024 class as the Tigers look to remain one of the elite programs in college football.

Headlined by two five-star recruits in linebacker Sammy Brown and wide receiver Bryant Wesco, the Tigers have future stars ready to make an impact for the Tigers in this class. The most recent commitment in the class came from four-star cornerback Corian Gipson, who committed to the Tigers Saturday, choosing Clemson over top competitor Texas.

Now ranked the No.6 class in On3’s 2024 industry team recruiting class rankings, the Tigers have talent committed across multiple positions of need in this class. Here is a look at all 17 recruits committed to Clemson right now grouped by their position.

ESPN compares 5-star Clemson linebacker commit to ‘current college star,’ Ohio State All-American

Clemson’s 5-star linebacker commit Sammy Brown is compared to one of the best linebackers in the country.

The Clemson football program landed a commitment from one of the top recruits in the 2024 class, five-star linebacker Sammy Brown

According to 247Sports rankings, Brown currently ranks as the No.1 linebacker and the No.5 overall player in the 2024 class. He is currently the highest-ranked linebacker in 247Sports rankings history, an impressive feat for the future Tiger.

Brown has all the tools to be a star in college football, and recently, the five-star recruit has been compared to an All-American at the position. ESPN recently released an article comparing 2024 football recruits to current college stars ($), with Brown being compared to Ohio State star linebacker Tommy Eichenberg. Here is what writer Tom Luginbill had to say about Brown.

Sammy Brown, LB

2024 ESPN 300 ranking: 10
Commitment: Clemson
Player Comparison: Tommy EichenbergOhio State (2019)

It can be tough to find an accurate comparison at the collegiate level for Brown because he is such a diverse and versatile player. But as he projects on defense, Ohio State’s Eichenberg immediately comes to mind.

Brown, a wrestling and track standout at Jefferson High School (Georgia), may be slightly faster and better overall, but as an in-the-box player, these two are eerily similar. They are tough, rugged and instinctive. They play with a high motor and exude leadership qualities. Tackle-to-tackle, Eichenberg and Brown can define the mentality of a defense.

High praise for Brown from Luginbill, saying Brown may be better overall than an All-American linebacker for one of the best programs in the country, is definitely saying something. Suppose Brown ends up being better than Eichenberg. In that case, the Tigers will have an insane run of top-tier linebackers coming through the program.

With the expectations that Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Barrett Carter will enter the 2024 NFL draft after this upcoming college football season, the Tigers will be in good hands with Brown anchoring their linebacker core.

Clemson Crystal Ball tracker: Every 2024 recruit predicted to sign with Clemson

Things are heating up for the Tigers in the 2024 class. Here is a crystal ball tracker to keep you up to date.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers reportedly had a superb recruiting weekend in Clemson, with a long list of top recruits attending and enjoying everything Clemson has to offer.

The Tigers’ strong showing this past weekend was massive for the program as a team that lives and dies with recruiting as others take advantage of the transfer portal, which has become a significant part of some programs’ roster development. Different strokes for different folks, Swinney and Clemson are good at what they do and stick to it.

We’ve seen recruiting success before, and after the weekend, it seems more to come as multiple top recruits have received crystal ball predictions over the past few days. With the activity, we decided to put together a tracker for these predictions.

Here is Clemson Wire’s crystal ball tracker, with 247Sports composite rankings and site rankings for each recruit.

Clemson continues hot streak with commitment from 4-star RB Gideon Davidson

Davidson is the latest in a string of significant additions by Clemson.

The highest-ranked recruit who has made a college commitment public knowledge this week is Liberty Christian Academy (Va.) four-star running back Gideon Davidson.

On Wednesday, Davidson announced his commitment to Clemson like so.

Davidson (6-foot-0, 193 pounds) had offers from 18 other programs, including Auburn, Colorado, Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State. Going by the 247Sports composite rankings, Davidson is No. 4 among running backs, second in the state of Virginia and No. 67 nationally in the class of 2025.

This is the latest in a string of significant additions by Clemson. Since the start of June, they have also picked up commitments from Midlothian (Texas) five-star wide receiver Bryant Wesco and Jefferson (Ga.) five-star linebacker Sammy Brown, who are ranked No. 15 and 16 overall respectively in the class of 2024. They’ve also added Tampa Catholic (Fla.) four-star wide receiver TJ Moore, ranked No. 165 nationally.

Clemson’s group of 11 hard commits in the 2024 class now ranks No. 8 in the nation. Davidson is their first commitment for the 2025 cycle.

Georgia pads 2024 recruiting lead with another 4-star DL commit

5-star WR Ryan Wingo visiting Texas this weekend, Missouri next

What’s next for Oklahoma after losing out on 5-star linebacker?

What’s Oklahoma’s linebacker pursuits look like after missing out on 5-Star target Sammy Brown?

Just a day after five-star linebacker [autotag]Sammy Brown[/autotag], the No. 14 overall prospect, committed to Clemson, the Sooners are working on what is next.

This is the second big piece at linebacker the Sooners were hoping to land who chose to play elsewhere. Four-star [autotag]Peyton Pierce[/autotag] committed to Ohio State.

We know the Sooners are still in contact with Pierce, so a flip is possible.

Could a flip also be possible for Brown? It’s possible but unlikely. As of right now, he’s scheduled to be in Norman for the ChampU BBQ, but it’s unclear if he has canceled that visit.

Now, would Brent Venables recruit against his old team after a player has committed there? He previously didn’t, but I think he would in this scenario since he’s now been gone for a little more than a year.

So, if the Sooners can’t flip either of those prospects, what do they do next? Some names we’ve heard are three-star [autotag]Michael Boganowski[/autotag], four-star Tyanthony Smith and, more recently, three-star [autotag]Easton Baker[/autotag].

None of those three bring the same hype as a five-star, but one thing  Venables knows very well is linebacker play. That’s something I would trust him on regardless of a rating.

So let’s break down each player, starting with Boganowski.

Some people see him as a hybrid. He’s 6 feet, 2 inches and 200 pounds and lives in Junction City, Kansas, an area Venables has had success in. The main competition will be Kansas State. According to On3, the Sooners hold a slight lead.

When talking about Oklahoma, he told Rivals a week ago, “They are going to the SEC, and they have made it clear that I am a priority. Coach Brent Venables is a winner, and it would be cool to play in one of his defenses.”

Smith’s recruitment is going to be a dogfight. He’s a highly-talented player from Jasper, Texas. He’s 6 feet, 1 inch and 205 pounds. Several schools are after him; Texas and Texas A&M appear to be Oklahoma’s main competition.

[autotag]Baker[/autotag] is a 6-foot, 190-pound linebacker from Tooele, Utah. He has come up quite a bit recently. Washington State looks to be the Sooners’ main competition. He was originally committed to BYU and will be in Norman for the ChampU BBQ on June 16.

5-star LB Sammy Brown commits to Clemson over UGA

ICYMI: 5-star LB Sammy Brown chose Clemson over UGA yesterday

Five-star linebacker Sammy Brown has committed to the Clemson Tigers over the Georgia Bulldogs. Brown is an excellent athlete. He has a rare combination of strength and speed. The five-star linebacker has the potential to start in college as a true freshman.

Sammy Brown committed to Clemson via social media shortly after is visiting the Tigers. Brown is the top recruit in Clemson’s class of 2024.

Sammy Brown plays high school football for Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Georgia. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker plays high school football about an hour outside of Athens, Georgia. Kirby Smart and Georgia would have loved for Sammy Brown to stay home, but Clemson was tough to beat out in his recruitment. Dabo Swinney and the Tigers do an excellent job of recruiting the Peach State.

Sammy Brown is ranked as the No. 14 player in the class of 2024, per 247Sports. Brown is the second-ranked linebacker and the third-ranked player in Georgia.

Sammy Brown is a versatile three-sport athlete that runs track and wrestles in addition to playing football. Brown compiled 1,459 rushing yards on 181 carries and scored 21 rushing touchdowns in his junior season. The five-star also racked up 113 total tackles and added a sack.

Joshua L. Jones/Online Athens

Georgia recruited the linebacker position at an elite level in the 2023 cycle. However, the Dawgs missed out on Sammy Brown. Now, Georgia will look to earn commitments from other top linebackers. The Bulldogs have a commitment from five-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick, but the Dawgs are likely looking for a couple other linebackers to round out the class of 2024.

Brown announced his commitment to Clemson football via Twitter:
