Tennessee soccer defeats FAU for fourth win.

Tennessee (4-1-1) defeated Florida Atlantic (0-4-2), 2-0, Sunday at Regal Soccer Stadium.

The Lady Vols led, 1-0, after Macaira Midgley scored in the third minute of the match. Kate Runyon and Reese Mattern were credited with an assist on the game’s first goal.

Tennessee extended its lead to, 2-0, after Sammi Woods recorded an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.

Lady Vols’ goalkeeper Ally Zazzara recorded a shutout and made two saves in the match.

Tennessee outshot the Owls, 16-5, The Lady Vols had five scoring chances land on goal. Florida Atlantic had two shots on goal in the match. The Owls earned three corner kicks, while Tennessee totaled two.

Reese Mattern scores first goal at Tennessee

Freshman Reese Mattern scores first goal at Tennessee in the Lady Vols’ win at East Tennessee State.

Tennessee (2-1) defeated East Tennessee State (1-2), 1-0, on Thursday at Summers-Taylor Stadium in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Tennessee scored in the 64th minute on a goal by Reese Mattern. Macaira Midgley and Sammi Woods were each credited with an assist.

Tennessee outshot East Tennessee State, 14-4, in the match. The Lady Vols had five scoring chances land on goal, while Tennessee goalkeeper Ally Zarzzara recorded her second shutout of the season, while not having to record a save.

Thursday’s match marked the first time Tennessee held an opponent to zero shots on goal since accomplishing the feat against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 10, 2023.

The Lady Vols now lead the all time series against East Tennessee State, 9-0.

Tennessee will next play Sunday against Lipscomb at Regal Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. EDT.

Sammi Woods scores goal in Lady Vols’ home opener

Tennessee soccer wins 2024 home opener on Sunday.

Tennessee (1-1) defeated Chattanooga (0-1-1), 2-0, on Sunday at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Graduate student forward Sammi Woods scored one of Tennessee’s goals against Chattanooga. She scored in the 90th minute and Sarah Greiner was credited with an assist.

Woods totaled six shots in the win, including three on target. Reese Mattern recorded three shots, while Mac Midgley and Greiner totaled two shots each for Tennessee.

The Lady Vols other score was due to an own goal by Chattanooga in the 64th minute. The contest was tied, 0-0, at halftime.

Tennessee goalkeeper Ally Zazzara recorded one save. Chattanooga’s only shot in the match was on target by Paige Thomas.

Four Lady Vols named to SEC preseason watch list

Four Lady Vol student-athletes named to 2024 SEC preseason watch list.

Tennessee will open its 2024 soccer season on Thursday at Indiana. Kickoff between the Vols and Hoosiers is slated for 8 p.m. EDT and can be watched on Big Ten Network+.

Ahead of the Lady Vols’ opening match, four Tennessee student-athletes were named to 2024 Southeastern Conference preseason watch list: Redshirt senior forward Jaida Thomas, junior midfielder Mac Midgley, graduate student forward Sammi Woods and sophomore forward Kate Runyon.

Tennessee advanced to the NCAA Tournament second-round in 2023 under head coach Joe Kirt.

Kirt enters his third season as the Lady Vols’ head coach. He was also an assistant coach for 15 seasons at Tennessee.
