Report: Michigan State football parting ways with GM Saeed Khalif

According to reports, there is going to be a shakeup to Michigan State’s coaching staff

Mel Tucker has made a pretty big move to his coaching staff. It appears  Saeed Khalif was let go by Tucker. Khalif has been the main source of recruiting for the Michigan State coaching staff during his tenure in East Lansing.

Corey Robinson of 247Sports reported the move and that Tucker plans to conduct a national search to find his replacement.

Four takeaways from The Athletic’s interview with former Wisconsin DPP Saeed Khalif

Analyzing The Athletic’s interview with former Wisconsin director of player personnel Saeed Khalif:

The Athletic’s Jesse Temple interviewed former Wisconsin director of player personnel Saeed Khalif in-depth earlier this week, diving into why he left Wisconsin for Michigan State and what was the story of his time in Madison.

Khalif’s move back in late May was a shock, as he’d quickly elevated Wisconsin’s recruiting profile during his time with the program and had just capped off a 2021 recruiting effort that saw the class finish No. 16 in the nation.

Since his departure, there were more questions than answers relating to how Michigan State was able to pry him from Wisconsin and what the program may have lacked during his time there.

Well, some of those questions have been answered, as the program did not allocate Khalif enough resources to fulfill his vision for the department, Michigan State offered him more control and Wisconsin had a sense of complacency when it comes to their recruiting profile.

The article is a great one and is well worth the read. But here are my five takeaways from Khalif’s answers in the piece:

Report: Michigan State football tabs Saeed Khalif as new Director of Player Personnel

Michigan State lost their Director of Player Personnel Scott Aligo to Kansas and Mel Tucker wasted little time finding his replacement.

Not long after Michigan State’s Director of Player Personnel Scott Aligo left for his alma mater Kansas, Mel Tucker has tabbed a replacement. Saeed Khalif appears to be the next man in line to take the role and replace Aligo.

Khalif currently holds the Director of Player Personnel role at Wisconsin, a spot in which he has been a huge contributor to their recent recruiting success.

Khalif was a standout defensive lineman at Georgia Tech in the 80s. Since his playing days, he has spent time in a support role with Georgia Tech as well as the defensive coordinator of Savannah State before taking over at Wisconsin.

The Spartans recruiting efforts should get a huge bolster with the addition of Khalif. A strong hire by Mel Tucker to replace Aligo.

For the first time in over a year, the recruiting dead period is over and recruits are able to take official campus visits.

In line with today’s significance, however, reports surfaced today that Wisconsin director of player personnel Saeed Khalif is headed to Michigan State.

Khalif came to Madison in 2017 and played a crucial role in everything the program did on the recruiting trail.

If his impact isn’t already widely known, he was a primary force behind the Badgers’ program-best stretch of recruiting classes over the last three years.

“We want to be a top program, and we want ourselves recognized with top programs in everything that we do,” Khalif said back in December. “Our football play, our recruiting and our academics, we want it all to measure up, so yeah, it’s a big deal for us. We’d love to be in the conversations and people talking top 20 and that kind of stuff. Awesome to hear if that helps us get us over the hump.”

The timing of the move is tough for Paul Chryst and the Wisconsin football program. They now need to help fill the void Khalif will leave as the 2022 recruiting cycle heats up.

10 people Wisconsin football has to be thankful for going forward

We are past the halfway point of the Big Ten’s 2020 football season and the Wisconsin Badgers sit with a surprising 2-1 record.

Surprising not because the team is 2-1 and doesn’t have control of the Big Ten West division, but because they have only played three games thus far and now will not be able to play the six games needed to even qualify for the conference championship.

It’s also Thanksgiving week, a time we all get together with our families and discuss what we’re thankful for.

For the 2020 Wisconsin Badgers, a lot could have gone better thus far— including a normal season, their senior quarterback staying healthy, the team not experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak, a win at Northwestern, a chance at keeping Paul Bunyan’s Axe and more.

Nevertheless, the program is set up well for success both through the end of this year and for the future. So, here are 10 people Wisconsin football has to be thankful for this season and beyond:
