Saddiq Bey set NBA rookie record for games with at least 5 3-pointers

Saddiq Bey notched yet another record on Saturday with his latest shooting performance from behind the arc.

On Saturday, Detroit Pistons rookie Saddiq Bey finished with 22 points and an NBA record after another strong shooting performance in a loss on the road to the Charlotte Hornets.

Bey converted on 7-of-21 shots from the field, including 5-of-12 from 3-point range during the 107-94 loss to the Hornets. He also contributed seven rebounds, five assists, two blocked shots and two steals in 40 minutes of work.

The performance by Bey marked his 10th game of the season with at least five 3-pointers, the most all-time by a rookie. He surpassed the previous record of nine, held by Stephen Curry (2009-10) and Allen Iverson (1996-97).

Throughout the season, Bey has emerged as not only one of the best rookie shooters, but as one of the best overall shooters in the league.

On the season, Bey is averaging 11.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game on 38% shooting from 3-point range. His 148 total 3-pointers lead all rookies this season, while he ranks 25th among all players in the NBA in that category.

Bey already this season has set the Pistons’ all-time rookie mark for 3-pointers, while he also recently set the franchise record for a quarter with six. Had Bey had the opportunity to play a full 82-game schedule, he likely would have set the NBA all-time rookie record for 3s in a season (187).

While Bey will likely fall short of winning Rookie of the Year, the 19th overall pick turned in a strong first season in the NBA and projects to have a bright future ahead with the Pistons.

Saddiq Bey sets new Pistons rookie 3-point record for a quarter

Bey produced the most points in a quarter by a Pistons rookie since 2012, and set the franchise mark for 3-pointers in the process.

Detroit Pistons guard Saddiq Bey notched a new franchise record on Monday night after yet another hot-shooting night from beyond the arc to help his team to a 109-105 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bey tied a team-high with 20 points, including 18 alone in the first quarter, in 36 minutes of work. His 18 points were the most in any quarter by a Pistons rookie since Brandon Knight had 19 points in the third quarter on April 17, 2012.

The 19th overall pick finished the contest by shooting 6-of-11 from 3-point range for his fifth game of the season with at least six 3-pointers. His six triples set a Pistons rookie record for the most in a single quarter, which was just one shy of the NBA record set by Coby White last year.

Bey on numerous occasions has etched his name in the team history books.

Last week, he set the Pistons all-time rookie 3-point record for a season while he also holds the record for most triples in a single game by a first-year player with seven. Additionally, his 2.36 makes per game are second-most all-time.

The performance by Bey this season has forced some to seriously consider his standing in the Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie awards races. While he may very well likely fall short in the Rookie of the Year race, making the All-Rookie First Team should be well within reach.

Dwane Casey: Saddiq Bey ‘deserving’ to be in Rookie of the Year race

Bey, who set the Pistons all-time rookie 3-point record, is averaging 11.3 points, four rebounds and 1.2 assists per game this season.

Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey on Friday praised rookie Saddiq Bey for his play this season and believes the 19th overall pick deserves to be in the NBA Rookie of the Year conversation.

Bey, who set the Pistons all-time rookie 3-point record, is averaging 11.3 points, four rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He is converting on 41.4% from the field, including 38.4% from beyond the arc on 2.3 makes per game, which is tied for second-most ever by a rookie.

Among the rookie class, Bey ranks sixth in scoring and fifth in 3-point percentage while his 124 total 3s lead all first-year players. As of Friday, Bey has the fifth-highest odds of winning Rookie of the Year, according to BetMGM, and Casey believes he is a worthy candidate.

While Bey has had a strong season, he hasn’t necessarily garnered as much attention as the likes of Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards or Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball and has flown under the radar, which likely won’t help him among voters.

Given the notoriety and play of Edwards and Ball, Bey will more than likely be on the outside looking in when it comes to the award, but his emergence has given the Pistons a strong piece to build around and that is likely more than enough for the 22-year-old.

Pistons’ Saddiq Bey calls Killian Hayes unique given his court vision

Bey was ecstatic to see Hayes return to the court this month after missing 41 games due to a hip injury.

Detroit Pistons rookie Killian Hayes has only logged 11 appearances this season, but the seventh overall pick has already impressed some of his teammates on the offensive end of the floor.

Specifically, Hayes has dazzled at times as the lead guard on the floor with the Pistons. He entered the NBA touted as a player capable of getting his teammates involved while also creating for himself, and that skill set has been on display.

His passing ability has stood out perhaps more than anything to this point of the season as he has already dished out a number of highlight-worthy assists. He has played in four games since returning from a hip injury and teammate Saddiq Bey is glad to have him back given that ability.

“It was great to be able to play with him again,” Bey said on Tuesday. “Actually, I think his first game back, it didn’t seem like he really missed a beat. His rhythm was still on. He might have had I think five assists coming back in his first game. I was just saying that’s how unique he is and his vision at such a young age to get guys open and create on his own is special.”

From setting up his teammates on the break or in the halfcourt, Hayes seemingly knows where everyone is going to be and has a knack for hitting them at the right time. He has already developed quite a tandem with the likes of Hamidou Diallo and Isaiah Stewart among others.

Of course, Hayes is still just scratching the surface on his potential. His game will only improve the more he plays but he has shown some flashes of what he can become in a very small sample size. The rest of the season will be key for his development, but he appears to be on the right track.

Saddiq Bey powers Pistons to win behind hot shooting performance

Bey produced his third double-double of the season on Wednesday to lead the Pistons to a win over the Raptors.

Saddiq Bey scored a team-high 28 points and 12 points on Wednesday for his third career double-double to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 116-112 victory over the Toronto Raptors.

Bey finished by shooting 8-of-14 from the field, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, in nearly 39 minutes of work. He now has three games this season with at least six 3-pointers, joining Allan Houston as the only other Pistons rookie to reach that mark.
