Rob Havenstein shares one ‘really important’ trait that OL coach Ryan Wendell brings to Rams

Rob Havenstein spoke about the value of Ryan Wendell’s playing experience now that he’s coaching the Rams’ O-line

The Los Angeles Rams didn’t just make personnel changes this offseason. Sean McVay’s coaching staff also looks very different after letting several assistants go and bringing in replacements.

Among the new faces on the Rams’ staff is Ryan Wendell. Fans might recognize his name from his playing days, spending nine years in the NFL from 2008-2016. He even won a Super Bowl as a starter with the Patriots in 2014, playing 80 total games in his career.

His experience as a player is something that’s very evident to Rob Havenstein already, in a good way, too. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Havenstein mentioned how impressed he’s been with Wendell thus far, particularly because he knows what it’s like to be in the players’ shoes.

“You can tell he’s played before. And that’s something that’s really important,” Havenstein said of Wendell. “I mean, you don’t have to have to have played – obviously, there’s a lot of great coaches who haven’t played – but in terms of like relating to a new group, and especially a young group, because, I mean, he did it for nine years, right? So he understands the game, he understands the politics, he understands about being in the seat, like a player’s seat in the meeting room, and kind of how things are. So he’s very specific with his words and how he words things and what he’s telling guys, and I think it’s a good thing because it’s a good, uniform message, and especially with how young we are, everyone’s hearing the same thing.”

Wendell replaced Kevin Carberry, who spent two years with the Rams in 2021 and 2022 before joining the Saints as their assistant O-line coach this year. Los Angeles didn’t bring Carberry back, likely in part because of the struggles along the O-line in 2022.

Wendell will hopefully get the blocking back on track this year and it sounds like he’s already off to a good start.

“He’s not a screamer, he’s not a shouter,” Havenstein continued. “He’s gonna make sure you know what you’ve gotta do, and then he’s gonna put it on you to go ahead and get it done. And I think that’s the way NFL football should be. At the end of the day, it’s up to the player. The coach can’t play on Sunday. I think we’ve got a really good relationship going in here – not just myself, but everyone in the room – and gonna continue to build that here in training camp and see where he can take this thing.”

Wendell is in his first year as an offensive line coach, spending four years as an assistant O-line coach with the Bills. McVay is confident the 37-year-old can right the ship up front in L.A. and Havenstein seems to share the same feeling.

62 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 62 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 62 jersey number.

The New England Patriots are now officially 62 days away from their season-opening showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles on September 10.

So we’re continuing out countdown series by listing every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 62 jersey.

Offensive guard Bill Murray, who made the switch from the defensive line to the offensive line, currently wears the number. Murray has earned significant praise from coach Bill Belichick recently for his willingness to switch positions and excel at the next level.

One thing is certain in New England: You know you’re doing great when Belichick puts you on his “nobody works harder” list.

Meanwhile, Joe Thuney had a stellar run with the Patriots before leaving and joining the Kansas City Chiefs.

Of course, those are just two of 15 total players that have worn the number. Here’s every Patriots player that has worn the No. 62 throughout franchise history:

69 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 69 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 69 jersey number.

With another week in the books, the New England Patriots are 69 days away from their regular season opener against the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles on September 10.

We’re counting down the days until kickoff by listing every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 69 jersey number.

There have only been eight for New England with second-year offensive guard Cole Strange donning the number currently. The 2022 NFL first-round draft pick is expected to help fortify an offensive line group that imploded last season, along with the rest of the Patriots’ offense.

Two-time Super Bowl champion Shaq Mason is another former Patriot that wore No. 69 and made a major impact for the team. With those two players in mind, let’s take a look at every player that has ever worn No. 69 throughout New England’s franchise history.

Rams are promoting Zak Kromer to assistant OL coach

The Rams are promoting Zak Kromer to assistant OL coach after hiring Ryan Wendell as their new OL coach.

The Los Angeles Rams recently named Ryan Wendell as their new offensive line coach and they are making another change to the offensive line staff. With Sean McVay still altering the coaching staff, the Rams are promoting Zak Kromer to assistant offensive line coach.

Kromer has been with the Rams for the last six seasons as an offensive assistant. Wendell worked with Aaron Kromer, Zak’s father, with the Buffalo Bills, while Aaron also used to be the offensive line coach of the Rams.

The offensive line was in flux during the 2022 season for the Rams due to injuries and inconsistent play from multiple linemen. After moving on from Kevin Carberry as their offensive line coach, the Rams are hoping that the combination of Wendell and Kromer leads to more success in the trenches in 2023.

Former Patriots team captain hired as OL coach for Rams

The Rams hired a former Patriots team captain as their new offensive line coach.

The Los Angeles Rams added a familiar face to New England Patriots fans with former offensive lineman Ryan Wendell being named as the team’s new offensive line coach.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported the news on Thursday.

Wendell played with the Patriots from 2008-2015 and even was a team captain in the 2015 season. He was dependable at the right tackle position, starting in 16 games in 2012 and 2013. He even won a Super Bowl with the franchise in the 2014 season.

This is the second coach that Los Angeles has hired with New England connections this offseason. Former Patriots’ tight ends coach Nick Caley was recently hired as the team’s offensive coordinator.

The defending champion Rams are hiring up-and-coming coaches, as they look to rebound after finishing 5-12 this season and missing the playoffs.

Buffalo Bills lose offensive line assistant after all

#Bills lose offensive line assistant after all:

It appeared the Buffalo Bills were going to keep their assistant offensive line coach Ryan Wendell.

Nevermind.

According to reports last week, Wendell interviewed for the New England Patriots’ head O-line coaching position.

Days later, Patriots Wire reported that former Oregon associate head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach Adrian Klemm was hired instead.

There were no connection made to the Los Angeles Rams, but evidently there was one.

According to Rams Wire, Wendell has accepted the offensive line coaching position in LA.

Wendell, 36, was an assistant on Buffalo’s coaching staff since March 2019. The Bills retained Wendell after hiring Aaron Kromer as their lead offensive line coach last offseason.

Kromer remains in that role, so losing Wendell is considered minor.

Bills Wire will continue to bring updates relating to any interviews members of the team’s front office have throughout the spring.

Report: Rams hiring Bills’ Ryan Wendell as new O-line coach

The Rams have found their next offensive line coach. They’re bringing on former Bills assistant O-line coach Ryan Wendell.

Sean McVay is beginning to fill out his coaching staff for the 2023 season. With Kevin Carberry out as the Los Angeles Rams’ offensive line coach, McVay needed to find a replacement.

According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, the Rams are hiring Ryan Wendell as their new O-line coach. Wendell, who played eight years in the NFL with the Patriots and Panthers, has been the Bills assistant offensive line coach since 2019, his first coaching opportunity.

Wendell is just 36 years old, so this is another young hire by McVay. Mike LaFleur, the Rams’ new offensive coordinator, is just 35 years old, too.

The Rams also had an interview set up with John Benton, who was formerly the Jets’ offensive line coach. But they’re going with a different AFC East candidate by hiring Wendell.

During his NFL career, Wendell played 80 games, starting 49 of them. He was primarily a center, so he has a good grasp of the entire O-line operation and the offense as a whole.

He went to Fresno State and was undrafted in 2008 but signed with the Patriots. He spent his rookie year on the practice squad and most of his second season there, too, but he played 15 games in 2010 and became a full-time starter in 2012.

Patriots opt to not hire Bills assistant as offensive line coach

The #Bills keep one of their assistant coaches:

The New England Patriots have opted to not bring in someone from the Buffalo Bills to be their offensive line coach.

According to reports last week, Bills assistant offensive line coach Ryan Wendell interviewed for the Patriots’ head O-line coaching position.

The Pats decided to go in another direction in the end.

Patriots Wire reports that former Oregon associate head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach Adrian Klemm was hired instead.

Wendell, 36, has been an assistant on Buffalo’s coaching staff since March 2019.

The tie in with the Patriots is clear for Wendell. He played for the team and head coach Bill Belichick from 2009 to 2015. Wendell was also a team captain.

However, Belichick and the Pats opted to go for a more experienced hand in Klemm, who has coached in the college and pro ranks since 2008.

Bills Wire will continue to bring updates relating to any interviews members of the team’s front office have throughout the spring.

Bills’ assistant O-line coach Ryan Wendell to interview with Patriots

#Bills’ assistant O-line coach Ryan Wendell to interview with #Patriots:

The New England Patriots might take a piece from the Buffalo Bills’ coaching staff.

According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, the Patriots are set to interview the Bills’ assistant offensive line coach Ryan Wendell. He will get a look at their lead offensive line coaching position.

Wendell, 36, has been an assistant on Buffalo’s coaching staff since March 2019.

The tie in with the Patriots is clear for Wendell. He played for the team and head coach Bill Belichick from 2009 to 2015. Wendell was also a team captain.

Wendell’s final season in the pros was a brief 2016 stint with the Carolina Panthers. That’s where a Bills connection is made as that was the final year Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott were with the Panthers before joining the Bills.

Aaron Kromer was named as Buffalo’s offensive line coach last offseason. Wendell kept his assistant role after Kromer was hired.

Patriots reportedly flying former team captain in for OL coach interview

Another former Patriot has emerged as a candidate to be the team’s next offensive line coach.

The New England Patriots are reportedly expanding their offensive line coaching search to another former franchise player.

According to NBC Sports Boston’s Albert Breer, the Patriots are flying  Buffalo Bills assistant Ryan Wendell out to Las Vegas to the site of the 2023 Shrine Bowl to interview for the job.

Wendell won Super Bowl XLIX with the Patriots, and he was also a former team captain back in 2015. As is the case with nearly every coaching hire in New England, there’s some deep connected root that goes back to coach Bill Belichick.

Wendell fits the mold, and he’ll be given an opportunity to land the job.

The Patriots are also expected to be interviewing Oregon assistant head coach Adrian Klemm, a former three-time Super Bowl champion with New England, for the job in Las Vegas as well, per Breer.

It remains to be seen if Wendell being rostered during Patriots’ newly-hired offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Bill O’Brien’s stint with the team could factor into the decision.
