‘Not sure I’ve ever been more proud,’ Schlossnagle recaps Texas A&M win vs. Oregon

“I’m not sure I’ve ever been more proud of a team,” he said. “You know, emotionally, Prager goes out and didn’t have a great first inning.”

Murphy’s Law appeared to be taking place early at the Bryan-College Station Super Regional on Saturday afternoon as the Texas A&M baseball team trailed Oregon 6-3 after two innings.

On top of that, junior outfielder Braden Montgomery suffered a season-ending right leg injury in the bottom of the first frame, deflating the crowd at Blue Bell Park. Despite that, the No. 3 Aggies prevailed 10-6, much to the joy of coach Jim Schlossnagle.

“I’m not sure I’ve ever been more proud of a team. You know, emotionally, Prager goes out and didn’t have a great first inning. Then we battle back into it and then the injury,” Schlossnagle said. “To get down 6-3, the emotions of that, I think a lot of teams fold. Chris gave us a big lift. I thought Hayden Schott had a lot of great at-bats, and obviously, Jackson. Super proud of our club. All we’ve done is won a game, nothing more than that. We’ve gotta be ready to go tomorrow. I think Oregon has a good team and we’re going to face some good lefties tomorrow.”

Game 2 at Olsen Field is Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

Aggies LHP Ryan Prager is ‘not trying to reinvent the wheel’ vs. Oregon in Super Regionals

“It comes back to not trying to reinvent the wheel just because it’s this time of year and people say this is a more meaningful weekend.”

Texas A&M sophomore left-handed pitcher Ryan Prager is scheduled to start the first game of the Super Regionals against Oregon and spoke prior to the best of three series at Blue Bell Park.

“I think it’s unbelievable. We’ve seen not only what they did last week but what they’ve done all year and what they tend to do year in and year out. I think it just shows how much this place cares. It obviously means a lot to us but there are other people that care. It means something to our fans and the university. We’re super grateful to have them at our back and know that they have an impact in what goes on,” Prager said. “I think a lot of it comes back to being us. We’ve faced teams that can do it all, especially from a power standpoint. Being in this league, there’s a lot of teams that will go and try to out-slug you, try to just take their chances hitting homers.

“We’ve experienced teams that do that and nothing changes. We still have to go execute pitches and do our thing. If we do that, the numbers say that it’ll be in our favor. I think a lot of it comes back to not trying to reinvent the wheel just because it’s this time of year and people say that this is a more meaningful weekend.

“We just stay true to who we are and what we’ve done all year.”

Game 1 begins Saturday at 1 p.m. on ESPN2. Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2. If necessary, a winner take all third game would be Monday.

Texas A&M’s pitching rotation vs. Oregon in the Super Regional have been announced

Texas A&M’s starting pitchers vs. Oregon have been announced ahead of the weekend’s Super Regional

Texas A&M (47-13) will host the Oregon Ducks (40-18) in the NCAA Tournament Super Regional Round this weekend. After going undefeated in the Regional Round last weekend, the Aggies will continue their homestay at Blue Bell Park.

In a thrilling display of power at the plate on Sunday, A&M’s offense came alive, delivering a total of 13 hits and five home runs. The dingers were courtesy of Caden Sorrell, Braden Montgomery, Hayden Schott, Ali Camarillo, and SEC Freshman of the Year Gavin Grahovac, who collectively led the team to a 9-4 victory over Louisiana.

Set to face an Oregon team that also went defeated in the Santa Barbara Regional, including a 3-0 victory over the site hosts on Sunday night, the Ducks bring an impressive pitching rotation. At the same time, the Aggies hold the statistical advantage in nearly every category.

However, games are won on the mound, as Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle announced the team’s starting pitchers for the first two games on Saturday and Sunday:

  • Game 1: Ryan Prager (8-1, 113 Ks, 2.53 ERA)

What does Oregon bring to the table against Texas A&M in the Super Regionals?

The road to Ohama will go through Bryan-College Station and the Aggies will have a tough opponent in the Oregon Ducks

The stage has been set for the Bryan-College Station Super Regional, in which Texas A&M will host Oregon. The first game will take place on Saturday afternoon.

Just like the Aggies, Oregon went 3-0 in the Santa Barbara regional, beating San Diego and UC Santa Barbara to punch their ticket to the Super Regional. It wasn’t a walk in the park, as they needed extra innings to beat San Diego, and a strong defensive outing against UC Santa Barbara allowed them to take both those games while only scoring a total of five runs across 18 innings.

The Ducks are a squad that will not blow you out of the water, but they are a gritty team that can grind out wins, especially when they’re pitching in on. However, one of the Duck’s most dangerous base hitters is Drew Smith, who leads the team in hits (61) and is second in doubles (15). Jacob Walsh has been their big bat when they need some power, leading the team in home runs (18) and RBI (56).

While Texas A&M may be considered the stronger team, they have shown moments of unpredictability. This could be an opportunity for Oregon to seize, especially in the first two games. If their regional wins demonstrate anything, it’s their ability to win close games and turn it into a bar fight, giving them a puncher’s chance.

‘Best college baseball atmosphere,’ Texas A&M LHP Ryan Prager recaps win vs. Longhorns

“That’s the best college baseball atmosphere, one, I’ve been in in-person and two, I’ve seen even looking at videos from the past,” he said.

Texas A&M sophomore left-handed pitcher Ryan Prager had a strong performance Saturday night at Blue Bell Park during a 4-2 win in 11 innings against Texas in the Bryan-College Station Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

“I thought the atmosphere of the crowd was outstanding! That’s the best college baseball atmosphere, one, I’ve been in in-person and two, I’ve seen even looking at videos from the past, what other places have done. That was the best I’ve ever seen,” Prager proclaimed. “I think the rivalry is what it is, that’s more so for the fans and for the university.

“For us, we’re just playing baseball. Yes, the opponent is who it is, but for us, it’s the same game that we played against Grambling, it’s the same against Texas. It was great for the fans to get to experience the rivalry in this setting but for us we’re just playing the game.

“We’re going to come back tomorrow and play the game against somebody.”

Prager was given a no decision after tossing 6.1 frames and allowing 4 hits, 4 walks and 2 runs with 7 strikeouts on 87 pitches.

‘7,600 is a joke,’ Texas A&M coach Jim Schlossnagle reacts to 11-inning win vs. Longhorns

“I thought both teams played great. I hope whoever’s in charge of the attendance numbers can do my taxes because 7,600 is a joke,” he said.

The No. 3 Texas A&M baseball team earned a 4-2 victory in 11 innings versus Texas on Saturday night at Blue Bell Park to advance to the Bryan-College Station Regional Final on Sunday evening.

After the game, coach Jim Schlossnagle spoke to the media.

“It was just an incredible ballgame. I thought that Lebarron Johnson and Gage Bane were awesome! And Prager was outstanding, Aschenbeck was great,” Schlossnagle said. “I thought that we got a lot of really good swings on them. Teddy in particular, it’s crazy to see how dumb baseball is. The guy destroys two balls to center field and then the one that gives us the lead is a swinging bunt that hits the base. I thought both teams played great.

“And I hope whoever’s in charge of the attendance numbers can do my taxes because 7,600 is a joke.”

Based on Schlossnagle’s recent interview with ESPN, Saturday’s attendance is likely a sign of what’s to come in Aggieland.

Texas A&M baseball outlast Texas for a 4-2 victory in an extra inning nail biter

Texas A&M gets some breathing room in the Bryan-College Station Regional as they rally late to beat Texas in 11 innings

Texas A&M, despite struggling with their hitting, managed to turn the game around with a stellar performance from pitchers Ryan Prager and Evan Aschenbeck. Their efforts paved the way for a thrilling 4-2 extra-inning victory over Texas.

In one of the most anticipated games of the weekend, both offenses struggled to pull away at any point throughout the game. However, the Longhorns were able to stay just a step ahead, forcing the Aggies to play catch-up for the majority of the contest.

After a shaky start allowing a solo home run in the first inning, Prager dialed it in keeping the Longhorns off the board long enough for the Aggies to tie the game a few innings later.

His immaculate inning in the top of the fourth must have given freshman Caden Sorrell some timely momentum. With a 3-1 count, Sorrell sent one over the left field wall, knotting it up 1-1 in the top of the inning. That tie was short-lived when the Horns hit their second home run of the game to retake the lead 2-1.

With the game inching closer to its finish, the Aggies took advantage of multiple throwing errors in the eighth inning, which saw Braden Montgomery cross the plate to lock it up at 2-2. From there, both teams traded outs and base hits, but no scores went into extra innings.

With the tension mounting and the game hanging in the balance, the Aggies seized the opportunity in the 11th. With two outs and the bases loaded, transfer Ted Burton stepped up and delivered a clutch single to third base, scoring Kaeden Kent. The excitement didn’t end there as Jace LaViolette sprinted home on a wild pitch, securing a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the frame.

Only needing three outs, Aggies closer Evan Aschenbeck did what he does best and induced three straight outs, giving the Aggies a much-needed regional win. This win moved them into the winner’s bracket for the day. A win tomorrow would move the program into the Super Regionals for the first time in two seasons.

Texas A&M will be back in action on Sunday at 7 pm CST to face the winner of the Texas and Louisiana game that will take place at 2:00 p.m CST.

‘We’re not owed anything,’ Texas A&M sophomore LHP Ryan Prager previews NCAA Regional

“Just like 2022 when we did it, we had a great atmosphere. It was an awesome experience and super fun. We still have to fight and go win it.”

Redshirt sophomore left-handed pitcher Ryan Prager was a member of the last Texas A&M baseball team to reach the College World Series and he remincised in those memories on Monday.

“First off, I think it’s super special to get to play here. Getting to play at home in front of our fans is staying in our normal routine. We’ve worked all year up until this point for it. Now we start a new season and it’s the fun time of the year. We’re just really excited for it.” Prager explained. “It’s always exciting getting to play at home because there’s a comfort level with it, you get to play in front of your fans, you know it will be packed for your games and the energy will be there.

“Just like 2022 when we did it, we had a great atmosphere, a great crowd. It was an awesome experience and super fun. We’re just really excited for this year and super proud that we’ve earned a right to do this. Now going forward though, we just have to play and we’re not owed anything because we play at home.

“We still have to fight and go win it.”

SEC names Texas A&M’s Ryan Prager Pitcher of the Week

Texas A&M sophomore pitcher Ryan Prager earns SEC Pitcher of the Week after helping shutout Arkansas last weekend

If there was going to be a comeback player of the year Ryan Prager would be on the top of that list. After suffering an injury, he redshirted and spent all of last season recovering for the 2024 campaign. After being worked back into the Texas A&M lineup he’s been coach Jim Schlossnagle’s go-to starter for the weekend.

The SEC recognized the sophomore’s production after the big week by naming him SEC Pitcher of the Week. Below is the release excerpt from the conference officials:

Texas A&M’s Ryan Prager was brilliant in Thursday’s shutout win over No. 2 Arkansas as the lefty struck out nine over seven scoreless frames. In his seventh quality start of the season, the redshirt sophomore logged his 100th punchout of the year, becoming the first Aggie to accomplish the feat since 2021.
