Todd Bowles shares injury update on Bucs wide receiver

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver room is limping through the season as they are down both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver room is limping through the season as they are down both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. In their place, quarterback Baker Mayfield has utilized tight end Cade Otton and wide receiver Jalen McMillan.

McMillan popped up on the injury report on Friday and then missed the Bucs’ Monday night matchup with the Chiefs. He was listed with a hamstring injury, and on Wednesday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles gave an update on his condition.

“It’s just aggravated. It took a turn for the worse Friday, and it didn’t get any better yet. We’re waiting to see how he feels.”

The Bucs injury report will drop on Wednesday, and we will know if he has practiced at all this week and in what fashion. If the team is without McMillan again against the 49ers in Week 10, look for Ryan Miller to remain on the active roster to have his roster spot.

Former Clemson pitcher makes MLB debut on same day as call-up

Former Clemson pitcher Ryan Miller had an impressive outing in his Major League Baseball debut for the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.

Former Clemson Tigers pitcher Ryan Miller made his major league debut on the same day he was brought up from Triple A.

Miller, who pitched for Clemson from 2017-18, threw a perfect seventh inning in relief for the Los Angeles Angels during their 6-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old right-hander retired all three batters he faced, getting light-hitting Ryan Kreidler on a fly ball to right before striking out two batters — catcher Jake Rogers and leadoff man Parker Meadows — to end the inning.

Miller appeared in 34 games this season for the Salt Lake Bees, the Angels’ Triple A affiliate in the Pacific Coast League. He compiled a 5-1 record and a 2.45 ERA in 61 2/3 innings. Miller struck out 61 batters and walked 14, holding opponents to a .212 average and 0.99 WHIP.

In two seasons at Clemson, Miller posted an 8-1 record and a 2.59 ERA. He struck out 75 while walking 19 over 81 1/3 innings before being selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth round (No. 189 overall) of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.

Aside from the Diamondbacks, Miller also spent time in the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox organizations before the Angels selected him in Major League Baseball’s annual Rule 5 Draft last December.

In five minor league seasons, Miller is 19-13 with a 3.76 ERA over a span of 139 career games. He had 224 strikeouts in 225 innings pitched in that time.

Bucs elevate two wide receivers from practice squad for Week 13

The Bucs are shoring up their WR depth ahead of their Week 13 game against the Panthers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making sure their receiving depth is available for their Week 13 game against the Carolina Panthers.

The Bucs announced on Saturday that they are elevating wideouts David Moore and Ryan Miller from the practice squad to the active roster. This is Moore’s second elevation this year, and it’s Miller’s first — a player can only have three without being released and hitting waivers before they must be called up to the active roster.

The move comes when wideout depth is at a minimum for Tampa Bay. WR Rakim Jarrett is currently on injured reserve, and WR Chris Godwin is questionable to play on Sunday after re-aggravating a neck injury. The moves allow for some breathing room with the WR corps, though it remains to be seen how much either player will play on Sunday.

The Green Bay Packers hosted Furman wide receiver Ryan Miller on an official top-30 visit ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.

The Green Bay Packers hosted Furman wide receiver Ryan Miller on an official top-30 visit ahead of the 2023 NFL draft, according to Bill Huber of SI.com.

Miller (6-1, 210) caught 151 passes for 2,146 yards and a school-record 28 touchdowns over 53 games and five seasons at Furman. He set career highs for catches (72), receiving yards (762) and receiving touchdowns (12) and set the school record for receiving touchdowns in a season in 2022.

Miller, a three-time All-American in the FCS, is converting from tight end to receiver.

Against fifth-ranked Clemson in 2022, Miller caught 13 passes for 95 yards and a score. He caught a touchdown pass in 10 of his 13 games last season.

At Furman’s pro day, Miller ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds, hit 32″ in the vertical leap, covered 10-2 in the broad jump and finished the three-cone in 6.84 seconds and the short shuttle in 4.27 seconds. His Relative Athletic Score (RAS) is 6.97 out of 10.0.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic ranks Miller as the No. 53 overall receiver in the draft class and a likely priority free agent. The visit in Green Bay could be the team’s way of pitching Miller to sign with the Packers if he goes undrafted.

Miller turned 23 in February.

Ryan Miller shared the most beautiful moment with his parents after his final NHL game

It’s getting so very dusty in here.

Ryan Miller’s 17-season NHL career came to a close Saturday evening when his Anaheim Ducks lost 4-3 to the Minnesota Wild in overtime.

Miller played in 796 games, winning 391, the most ever for an American goalie. He’s the most successful player from a classic hockey family; his brother and three cousins all played at Michigan State, as he did, and eventually made it to the NHL.

It doesn’t take much to imagine the sort of sacrifices his parents made to get him to this point. Stories of parents getting up long before dawn to drive to far-flung rinks after working all week to pay for ice time and equipment are pretty standard in hockey.

And you can tell, from the absolutely heartbreaking look he gave his parents in the moments after his career ended, that Miller is so thankful.

Yeah. I’m going to need a moment.

Maybe more than a moment.

Miller had gotten a standing ovation earlier in the game, and NHL players have been going out of their way to shake his hand after games.

His teammates clearly love him, too.

Miller was a very good player for a long time and deserves every kudos for his excellent career. He was also one of the few players to stand up and thank Akim Aliu for speaking out against racism and abuse in hockey. Here’s hoping Miller stays around the game and helps to improve the culture of the sport.

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Ducks 1

Moneyline (ML)

The Avalanche (-334) are a good bet to knock off the Ducks (+260), who were crushed in Chicago last night and will be playing in a back-to-back situation. Anaheim is 2-5 in the past seven games in the second end of a back-to-back situation. They’re also just 2-6 in the past eight overall and 19-40 in the past 59 on the road.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Avalanche to win returns a profit of $3, while a $10 wager on the Ducks results in a profit of $26.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The AVALANCHE (-1.5, -110) are a good bet against the Ducks (+1.5, -110), who are limping to the end of their road trip. Colorado has won seven in a row, and it’s a perfect 4-0 in the past four against losing teams, too. The Avs are a good bet as a favorite, as well, cashing in 13 of the past 16. While Anaheim is 30-14 in the past 44 in this series, and 13-6 in the past 19 trips to Denver, take the home side. The Avalanche are a legitimate Stanley Cup contender and won’t be derailed by this bunch of Ducks.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (+105) is a good small-unit play based upon the Avalanche’s total trends. The Under is a perfect 11-0 in their past 11 games as a favorite, 5-0 in their past five at home as a favorite and 8-0 in their past eight against teams with a losing overall record. That makes an Under bet at plus-money a very good value.
