Jayden Daniels appreciates the ‘best fans in America’

Jayden Daniels shows his appreciation for Commanders’ fans.

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has been named the NFL Rookie of the Week eight times this season. On Thursday, Daniels could make it nine times, as he was terrific in last Sunday’s win over the New Orleans Saints, completing 25 of 31 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 66 yards.

Washington fans have played a part in Daniels winning that award eight times. You see, every week, the NFL names six of the top rookie performances from the week and allows fans to vote for the winner.

It’s safe to say that Washington fans love Daniels. He feels that love and appreciates the Commanders’ fans.

“I mean, I appreciate the fan base,” Daniels said when asked what he thought about the fans always voting for him. “I appreciate the best fans in America.”

On Tuesday, Daniels was out in the DMV community, delivering bikes to the Boys and Girls Club and spending time with fans.

Due to his outstanding rookie campaign, Daniels’ burgundy and black jerseys have been two of the top sellers this season.

If Daniels wins the Rookie of the Week award again for Week 15, he will receive a title belt, meaning nine title belts won.

What does he do with all of those belts?

“Nothing,” Daniels said when asked what he does with all the belts. “I mean, not anything. I mean, they’re in the house, in the living room.”

Daniels and the Commanders have their hands full this week, facing the 12-2 Eagles.

Seahawks LB Tyrice Knight named Rookie of the Week

Seahawks LB Tyrice Knight named Rookie of the Week

The Seattle Seahawks have found another hidden gem in the later rounds of the draft. This time, their diamond in the rough is none other than rookie linebacker Tyrice Knight, who has been an absolute terror in the middle of the field. Now, the fourth rounder out of UTEP has earned Rookie of the Week honors for his efforts in Week 14.

Knight led the team with 12 total tackles in the 30-18 road victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Seattle’s defense helped fuel the dominant win over Arizona, and Knight was a key contributor.

The Seahawks struggled defending the run earlier this year, and part of the reason was weak play at linebacker. Seattle’s two offseason acquisitions, Jerome Baker and Tyrel Dodson, were not up to par. As a result, the Seahawks didn’t double down on their mistakes. Instead, they quickly moved off both and replaced them with Ernest Jones IV and elevated rookie Tyrice Knight into a starting role.

The moves have paid off in dividends for Seattle, as their defense has transformed since their Bye Week into one of the stingiest in the league. The Seahawks have something special with No. 48, and I suspect a Week 14 “Rookie of the Week” award won’t be the only accolade he earns in his career.

Raiders will try to keep reigning Rookie of the Week from 3rd straight career high game

Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving beat out Raiders TE Brock Bowers for Rookie of the Week. The two face off in Tampa this Sunday.

Even a career-high 140 receiving yards and a touchdown on ten catches wasn’t quite enough for outstanding rookie tight end Brock Bowers to land Rookie of the Week honors.

The award instead went to Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving who put up a career-high 152 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries (6.1 ypc) while adding three more catches for 33 yards for 185 yards from scrimmage in an OT win over the Carolina Panthers.

Irving was selected in the fourth round of April’s draft out of University of Oregon.

Irving has set new career highs each of the past two weeks for the Bucs. Week 12 saw him put up 88 yards on the ground and a total of 152 yards from scrimmage. He’s also had a touchdown in three straight weeks.

Clearly Irving has the hot hand in Tampa and they will keep feeding him the rock and the next team on the slate is the Raiders who head for Tampa to face the Bucs next Sunday.

Each team will heavily feature their standout rookies in their offenses.

“The best part is — you guys know him now — he’s very grounded and he’s very team-driven relative to what’s important. We just want to keep building on that. It’s good with where we’re at in this juncture of the season.”

“It’s cool, it’s a great honor,” Nix said Wednesday, “It’s a great responsibility, but at the same time it doesn’t end with just that. You obviously have to continue to go back. They only remember your last game, so you have to go out there and continue to do it. It’s a great honor. Many great players have won the award in the past, so it’s an honor to be included and be that recipient. [There is] a lot of work left to be done.”

Nix aims to remain even-keeled going forward.

“I understand what it’s like to be playing well, and then also not playing well,” Nix said. “So [I] definitely want to continue playing well. It’s just being able to stay grounded with being able to handle the highs and the lows and just remain the same. Be the same guy in the locker room all the time.”

Up next for the Broncos is a road game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
