Reggie Robinson II becomes third Cowboys rookie to agree to terms

Fourth-rounder Reggie Robinson II had agreed to terms on his rookie contract.

The Dallas Cowboys have been busy behind the scenes lately when it comes to getting their rookie class signed. Fifth-round edge rusher Bradlee Anae agreed to terms on Monday, joining seventh-round quarterback Ben DiNucci who did the same last week.

Now, fourth-round cornerback Reggie Robinson has become the third rookie to agree to contract terms, per Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

Robinson’s total contract will be for just over $4 million and his 2020 cap hit will be around $792,000.

Robinson will have his work cut out for him if he wants to make a significant impact on the Cowboys defense this season. Not only will he be battling second-round sensation Trevon Diggs and returning players Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis and Anthony Brown for snaps, but also veterans Maurice Canady and Darly Worley who were added to the roster during free agency.

Much like Diggs, Robinson is a ball-hawking cornerback as evidence by his 34 pass breakups and four interceptions during his days at Tulsa. Also, Robinson played some safety in college which gives him some position flexibility and possibly a chance to see the field earlier.

During the NFL Scouting Combine, he showed off his speed and athleticism recording a 4.44 in the 40-yard dash, a 36-inch vertcial jump, and an 11-foot broad jump.

With rookies set to report to training camp today, and having secured his deal, Robinson can begin his ascent up the depth chart.

Grant Delpit signs his rookie deal with the Browns

The Cleveland Browns have now signed their entire 2020 NFL Draft class after 2nd-round safety Grant Delpit inked his deal on Wednesday

The Cleveland Browns have now signed every single member of their draft class of 2020. Safety Grant Delpit, Cleveland’s second-round pick out of LSU, inked his rookie contract on Wednesday.

Delpit was the last of the Browns’ class to sign. First-round pick Jedrick Wills, the presumptive starter at left tackle, was one of the first 1st-rounders to sign. He officially joined the Browns last week.

Delpit was once projected as a top-10 overall pick, but his stock fell after playing through an injury for the national champions. He figures to play extensively as a rookie, though the roles in new coordinator Joe Woods’ defense have yet to get sorted out.

How much will the Broncos’ draft class cost this season?

The Broncos’ draft class will have a reasonable net salary cap hit this season.

The Denver Broncos have yet to sign their 2020 draft class. Just how much will it cost to sign their 10-player class?

The team’s drafted rookies will have a combined cap hit of $9,980,665 this season, according to Spotrac.com. But that doesn’t simply mean $9.9 million should be subtracted from the current cap total to calculate a new number.

During the offseason, only the 51 most-expensive players count against an NFL team’s salary cap. So some of the Broncos’ rookies will knock off several players currently counting against the Top 51 cap total.

Here’s a look at the draft class and the previous Top 51 players (knocked off players have their cap hits crossed out, including a few rookies).

Rookie Previous Top 51
Jerry Jeudy ($2,762,359) Phillip Lindsay ($755,000)
K.J. Hamler ($1,297,660) Davontae Harris ($750,000)
Michael Ojemudia ($863,890) Alexander Johnson ($750,000)
Lloyd Cushenberry ($846,544) Trey Marshall ($750,000)
McTelvin Agim ($824,317) Tim Patrick ($750,000)
Albert Okwuegbunam ($797,260) Juwann Winfree ($717,813)
Justin Strnad ($669,443) Malik Reed ($680,000)
Netane Muti ($661,448) Calvin Anderson ($675,000)
Tyrie Cleveland ($628,872) Andrew Beck ($675,000)
Derrek Tuszka ($628,872) Fred Brown ($675,000)
Rookie Pool: $9,980,665 Top 51 drop-offs: $6,761,448

When we subtract the 10 players that will be bumped down ($6,761,448) from the rookie pool/new bottom 10 players ($9,980,665) the net addition to the salary cap is just $3,219,217. So, in salary cap terms, the Broncos’ draft class will only cost a little more than $3.2 million.

Denver is projected to have $16,862,356 in cap space by Spotrac and $17,250,120 by OverTheCap.com, an average of $17,056,238. After subtracting the rookie net cap hit from that average, we project that the Broncos have approximately $13,837,021 in remaining salary cap space.

If Denver does not use all of its cap space this season, the unused cap will roll over to be added to the team’s salary cap total in 2021.

Broncos are yet to sign their 2020 draft class

The Broncos have not yet signed their 2020 draft class.

With training camp just over a month away, the Denver Broncos have not yet signed any members of their 2020 draft class. Given that this has been a unique offseason due to COVID-19, there’s no reason for alarm — rookie contracts will likely start to be signed closer to camp.

Last summer, quarterback Drew Lock was the last member of the team’s rookie class to sign. Lock agreed to a four-year deal on July 17.

Here’s a quick recap of the team’s draft class:

Round and Pick Player
Round 1, No. 15 WR Jerry Jeudy
Round 2, No. 46 WR K.J. Hamler
Round 3, No. 77 CB Michael Ojemudia
Round 3, No. 83 OL Lloyd Cushenberry
Round 3, No. 95 DL McTelvin Agim
Round 4, No. 118 TE Albert Okwuegbunam
Round 5, No. 178 LB Justin Strnad
Round 6, No. 181 OL Netane Muti
Round 7, No. 252 WR Tyrie Cleveland
Round 7, No. 254 DE Derrek Tuszka

Denver’s draft class is expected to cost $9,980,665 this season, according to a projection from Spotrac.com. Jeudy, the team’s first-round pick, will have the highest cap hit among the team’s rookies ($2,762,359).

Seahawks running back Chris Carson changes representatives

Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson switched to Octagon to represent him in upcoming contract negotiations.

Entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson has switched representation.

He will now be represented by Octagon instead of Dream Point Sports.

Octagon will have Casey Muir and Murphy McGuire representing him. McGuire also represents Seattle defensive tackle Poona Ford.

Carson’s timing is not random, as he is likely hoping to find someone who will help him negotiate a potential extension to remain in Seattle beyond the 2020 season. Carson will be paid $2.13 million in 2020 after reaching the playing time requirements for a Proven Performance Escalator (PPE).

Plus, if an extension is not reached, Carson will now have new agents helping him explore the free agent market for the first time.

A former seventh round pick out of Oklahoma State in 2017, Carson has been among the biggest draft deal steals in recent history – having run for over 1,100 yards in each of the last two seasons.

He is coming off a season-ending hip injury, but is expected to be fully healed in time for training camp and the 2020 regular season, where he will reprise his role as Seattle’s top back.
