Alabama DC Kane Wommack praises senior defensive back Malachi Moore

Malachi Moore has quickly impressed the new coaching staff in Tuscaloosa

Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama football held its second spring practice on Wednesday afternoon. You can already see and feel the difference in Coach DeBoer’s practices compared to what Tide fans were used to under the great Nick Saban.

One glaring difference is the media availability with the assistant coaches. Under Coach Saban, the assistant coaches only spoke to the media two to three times a year, this isn’t the case with Coach DeBoer.

Following Wednesday’s practice defensive coordinator [autotag]Kane Wommack[/autotag] met with the media and fielded questions from the local reporters.

One question that was asked was about senior defensive back [autotag]Malachi Moore[/autotag]. Coach Wommack offered up a glaring review of the Alabama native.

“Malachi Moore is an unbelievable professional. He carries himself with the body language and a demeanor that every coach wants to work with and wants to compete with every single day. He has a hunger to get better. He’s not satisfied with where he is, and he’s done a tremendous job as a football player. We’re really excited about what he’ll bring from a leadership standpoint, especially with these young defensive backs that are very talented, but they need that leadership and they need that experience to be able to win the play.”

Moore has quickly impressed the new coaching staff in Tuscaloosa and will play a large role not only on the field but in a leadership role this season for the Tide.

In his career, Moore has seen action in 53 games collecting a total of 143 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and five interceptions.

Nate Oats provides injury update on Alabama guard Rylan Griffen

Alabama sophomore guard Rylan Griffen suffers calf injury against the Gators

Alabama dropped a road game on Tuesday night at the hands of the Florida Gators, 105-87. To add to the Crimson Tide’s woes, guard Rylan Griffen suffered an injury late in the contest when going after a loose ball.

Griffen appeared to have possession of the ball while in midair until two Florida players collided with him, forcing the ball out of bounds. Not only was Griffen injured on the play, but the officials ruled no foul and that the ball was out of bounds on Alabama.

Following the loss, head coach [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] would provide an injury update on the sophomore guard from Texas.

“He’s got a calf injury that we’re getting an MRI on in the morning. I’m not sure if it’s a bruise, strain, something.”

With fellow guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. slowly working his way back into the lineup, Alabama can’t afford for Griffen to miss an extended period of time.

Griffen is averaging 11.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists this season for the Crimson Tide.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor Griffen’s injury and will provide updates as they become available.

Alabama at Florida: Analysis, injury report, broadcast info for Tuesday’s game

Alabama basketball takes on Florida in a must-win road game between two strong SEC programs.

The Alabama men’s basketball team will look to bounce back from a tough home loss to the Tennessee Volunteers as the Tide travels to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators in a ranked battle on Tuesday night.

Despite an impressive first-half comeback that had Alabama in the lead at halftime, the team fell into a bit of an offensive slump in the second half against the Vols. If guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. could get healthy and reinserted into the lineup, the Alabama offense would be in much better shape.

With just two regular-season games remaining, Coach [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Tide need to finish the season on a strong note.

Below is all the information you need for Tuesday night’s matchup between Alabama and Florida, including how to watch, injury report, projected starting lineups, and predictions.

Kalen DeBoer says Michigan transfer Keon Sabb has ‘it’ factor

Kalen DeBoer offers high praise for Michigan transfer Keon Sabb

The Alabama Crimson Tide football team hit the practice field on Monday for the first time this spring as the Kalen DeBoer era gets underway.

Following the practice, Coach DeBoer would speak to the media about what he could see from his team, including several new faces. One such player was Michigan safety transfer Keon Sabb who recently joined the program following the departure of Jim Harbaugh in Ann Arbor.

When asked about Sabb, Coach DeBoer offered up some high praise for the talented defensive back.

“You bring in a guy like him to be an impact player for you. His experiences, not just each and every play but also the experiences in leadership that as he’s here longer and longer that we would expect from him because of the level that he took his team to, winning a championship.

“That fits in well with what we’re trying to accomplish and what we’re trying to do.”

“The character makeup aside from, of course, what we know is a great football player, he just is a really good fit for us. It’s been a pleasure getting to know him more and more each and every day, just seeing how he’s operating. Right now, he’s just going about his work, but you can tell he’s got that it factor.

“He’s got the leadership piece within him to where I know we’ll be counting on him this fall.”

Sabb appeared in 14 games and made five starts at safety for the Wolverines, and he finished the 2023-24 season with 28 tackles, seven pass breakups, and two interceptions, including a pick-six.

Sabb would show up in a big way for Michigan in the national championship game against Coach DeBoer and Washington where he totaled six tackles and two pass breakups.

With Alabama’s lack of depth in the secondary and Sabb’s experience, he will likely be an instant starter for the Tide in the backend.

Nate Oats updates the status of Latrell Wrightsell Jr. ahead of road trip to Florida

The sooner Latrell Wrightsell Jr. can get back in the lineup, the better!

Alabama guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. has missed the last four games for the Crimson Tide with a head injury. On Monday, ahead of Alabama’s final road trip of the regular, head coach [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] updated the status of the sharpshooting senior.

Coach Oats would list Wrightsell as day-to-day and his status is still unknown for Alabama’s matchup against the Gators on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

“He’s been doing some basketball skills. He’s gotta get to a point where he can practice and then not have any type of headache the following day.”

“He was on a comeback protocol and then it got reset because he had a setback in it. It’d be nice to get him back. Again, it’s day-to-day. We’ve gotta see how he’s able to respond the next morning because once they go back to having a headache, they kind of start back at Day 0 again.

“But he’s coming along. As you could tell, he can shoot. He wasn’t doing anything live yet then.”

Getting Wrightsell healthy for the postseason will be critical for the Crimson Tide’s success both in the SEC tournament next week and the NCAA tournament later this month.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor the status of Wrightsell and will provide an update as soon as one becomes available.

Where Alabama basketball ranks in ESPN’s BPI entering final week of regular season

After losing two out of its last three games, Alabama tumbles a bit in ESPN’s BPI

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama men’s basketball are entering the final week of the regular season. With this past weekend’s home loss to Tennessee, an SEC regular season title is not likely to happen for the Tide.

Before tip-off on Tuesday night at Florida, let’s look at the latest update of ESPN’s Basketball Power Index.

According to ESPN, the BPI is a “measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Strength of Record (SOR) is a measure of team accomplishment based on how difficult a team’s W-L record is to achieve. Game predictions account for opponent strength, pace of play, site, travel distance, day’s rest, and altitude, and are used to simulate the season 10,000 times to produce season projections. Numbers update daily.”

Here is a breakdown of where Alabama ranks in the BPI.

Pre-Spring Position Preview: Breaking down the Alabama DBs

A closer look at the Alabama defensive backs ahead of spring practice

Before we know it, new Alabama head football coach Kalen DeBoer will hit the practice field with his Crimson Tide players for the first time when spring practice gets underway in March.

With the retirement of the legendary Nick Saban, there have not been this many question marks surrounding the football program since 2007 when Saban took over.

Contrary to popular belief, Alabama still has one of the most talented rosters in the country and should be right in the thick of the college football playoff conversation.

Roll Tide Wire will preview each position group as the anticipation builds leading up to spring practice. We will wrap our series up with the Crimson Tide defensive backs.

Everything Nate Oats said following Alabama’s 81-74 home loss to Tennessee

Nate Oats discusses Alabama’s tough home loss to Tennessee

Saturday night’s epic SEC showdown inside Coleman Coliseum between Alabama and Tennessee did not go the way Tide fans would have hoped with Alabama dropping the home matchup against the Vols, 81-74.

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and Alabama would have as much as a seven-point lead in the second half, but could not close out the veteran Vols down the stretch. Tennessee would outscore the Tide 42-33 in the final 20 minutes of action.

It would now take a miracle for the Tide outright win the SEC regular season title.

Following the tough home loss, Coach Oats would speak to the media about his team’s performance. Below is everything he had to say:

Alabama basketball chokes away a second half lead losing to Tennessee 81-74

Alabama basketball takes gut punch at home, losing to Tennessee 81-74

In the biggest home game in modern Alabama basketball history, [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Crimson Tide basketball team choked away a second half against Tennessee as the Vols defeated the Tide, 81-74.

Crimson Tide fans had Coleman Coliseum rocking but the Tide could not execute down the stretch to send the fans home happy.

With the loss, Alabama likely let their chances of winning the regular season SEC title as the Vols now are in sole possession of first place and have two head-to-head wins over the Tide.

To give credit where credit is due, Tennessee has appeared to be the most complete team in the SEC throughout the season and Alabama was just not consistent enough to come away with a win.

Hopefully, the Tide can get starting guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. back from his head injury soon, because this Alabama team is not the same without him.

It won’t get any easier for the Tide with a road game against Florida on Tuesday night.
