Alabama G Latrell Wrightsell Jr. announces his return to Alabama in 2024-25

Alabama guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. set to use his additional year of eligibility and return to Tuscaloosa next season

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team received some great news this morning as guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. announced his decision to use his final year of eligibility to return to Alabama next season. It still depends on who else comes back to the team and who Oats can land via the transfer portal, but Wrightsell will more than likely be a full-time starter next season after starting just 12 of 31 games in the 2023-2024 season.

Wrightsell dealt with a plethora of injuries all season long as he missed six games, but he was without question one of the most impactful players on the Crimson Tide roster. Despite never being fully healthy, Wrightsell was still able to average 8.9 points per game, 3.0 rebounds per game and 1.4 assists per game and in fact, he scored at least 10 points in 10 games for Alabama last year. Alabama was 10-0 in those contests.

After spending his first three seasons with Cal State Fullerton, there was a bit of an adjustment period to playing in Alabama’s up-tempo offense. However, come tournament time, he was as valuable as anyone not named Mark Sears or Grant Nelson.

Latrell Wrightsell will be available for Sweet 16 matchup against North Carolina

Good news for the Tide as they advance to the Sweet 16!

It has been a tough couple of months for senior guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. from an injury standpoint. Wrigthsell missed a handful of games down the stretch of the regular season with a head injury and would suffer another head injury in Alabama’s round of 32 win over Grand Canyon.

The injury occurred in the first half of the matchup against the Lopes as Wrightsell closed out on a three-point shot. The sharp-shooting guard would take an incidental elbow to the head and would miss the remainder of the contest.

Following the win, Nate Oats provided a quick update on Wrightsell ahead of the Crimson Tide’s Sweet 16 matchup against No. 1 North Carolina.

…..Wrightsell will be able to play with us Thursday. He got elbowed in the head, had a head injury. He’s had some real bad luck here lately, but we’re going to be playing again and he can play with us again on Thursday.

Alabama will need Wrightsell against the Tar Heels to pull off the upset and advance to the Elite Eight.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the progress of the Alabama men’s basketball team as they continue to advance in the NCAA Tournament.

Latrell Wrightsell Jr. will be key to Alabama’s success in March

With a healthy Latrell Wrightsell Jr., Alabama has the potential to make a run in March

With its thrilling 92-88 overtime win over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday inside Coleman Coliseum, the Alabama Crimson Tide closed out the 2023-24 regular season with a 21-10 record, including an impressive 13-5 mark in SEC play.

Alabama was able to overcome a 15-point deficit to the Hogs in large part because of the clutch play of senior guard Latrell Wrightsell. Wrightsell finished the contest with 20 points on 8 of 12 shooting. Wrightsell’s four three-point makes were critical for the Tide, but none were more impactful than his game-tieing three with 20 seconds remaining in the contest and forcing overtime in Tuscaloosa.

Wrightsell has been slowly working himself back into the lineup from a head injury he sustained a couple of weeks back and the Crimson Tide struggled in his absence.

Alabama is now a perfect 9-0 on the season when Wrightsell scores in double figures. Mark Sears is clearly the leader of the team, but Wrightsell’s impact can not be overstated. The Crimson Tide is simply not the same team without him in the lineup.

With Alabama’s win on Saturday, they have punched their ticket as a top-four seed in next week’s SEC tournament in Nashville. This means the Tide will not play again until Friday.

This Alabama team appeared to be gassed down the stretch and perhaps no team in the league could be better served for nearly a week’s worth of not only rest but a chance to get healthy.

With a healthy Wrightsell, this is a different Alabama team. His ability to make shots and handle the basketball gives the Tide offense the extra weapon it will need to make a potential deep run both in the SEC tournament and the NCAA tournament.

Put it down big, plain, and straight, Latrell Wrightsell Jr. will play a large part in Alabama’s success in March.

Alabama at Florida: Analysis, injury report, broadcast info for Tuesday’s game

Alabama basketball takes on Florida in a must-win road game between two strong SEC programs.

The Alabama men’s basketball team will look to bounce back from a tough home loss to the Tennessee Volunteers as the Tide travels to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators in a ranked battle on Tuesday night.

Despite an impressive first-half comeback that had Alabama in the lead at halftime, the team fell into a bit of an offensive slump in the second half against the Vols. If guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. could get healthy and reinserted into the lineup, the Alabama offense would be in much better shape.

With just two regular-season games remaining, Coach [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Tide need to finish the season on a strong note.

Below is all the information you need for Tuesday night’s matchup between Alabama and Florida, including how to watch, injury report, projected starting lineups, and predictions.

Nate Oats updates the status of Latrell Wrightsell Jr. ahead of road trip to Florida

The sooner Latrell Wrightsell Jr. can get back in the lineup, the better!

Alabama guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. has missed the last four games for the Crimson Tide with a head injury. On Monday, ahead of Alabama’s final road trip of the regular, head coach [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] updated the status of the sharpshooting senior.

Coach Oats would list Wrightsell as day-to-day and his status is still unknown for Alabama’s matchup against the Gators on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

“He’s been doing some basketball skills. He’s gotta get to a point where he can practice and then not have any type of headache the following day.”

“He was on a comeback protocol and then it got reset because he had a setback in it. It’d be nice to get him back. Again, it’s day-to-day. We’ve gotta see how he’s able to respond the next morning because once they go back to having a headache, they kind of start back at Day 0 again.

“But he’s coming along. As you could tell, he can shoot. He wasn’t doing anything live yet then.”

Getting Wrightsell healthy for the postseason will be critical for the Crimson Tide’s success both in the SEC tournament next week and the NCAA tournament later this month.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor the status of Wrightsell and will provide an update as soon as one becomes available.

Where Alabama basketball ranks in ESPN’s BPI entering final week of regular season

After losing two out of its last three games, Alabama tumbles a bit in ESPN’s BPI

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama men’s basketball are entering the final week of the regular season. With this past weekend’s home loss to Tennessee, an SEC regular season title is not likely to happen for the Tide.

Before tip-off on Tuesday night at Florida, let’s look at the latest update of ESPN’s Basketball Power Index.

According to ESPN, the BPI is a “measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward. BPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Strength of Record (SOR) is a measure of team accomplishment based on how difficult a team’s W-L record is to achieve. Game predictions account for opponent strength, pace of play, site, travel distance, day’s rest, and altitude, and are used to simulate the season 10,000 times to produce season projections. Numbers update daily.”

Here is a breakdown of where Alabama ranks in the BPI.

Everything Nate Oats said following Alabama’s 109-92 win at LSU

What Nate Oats said about Alabama’s road win over LSU

In an offensive clinic, [autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball team took down the LSU Tigers on the road in Baton Rouge, 109-92.

With the win, Alabama moves to 17-7 on the season and 9-2 in the SEC, good enough for the top spot in the conference as the Crimson Tide holds the tie-breaker with South Carolina who also has a 9-2 record in league play.

While Coach Oats isn’t necessarily pleased with the defensive performance, anytime you can put together a road win, you will take it.

Following the win Coach Oats met with the media and had the following to say about his team.

BREAKING: Alabama MBB lands commitment from Cal State Fullerton transfer Latrell Wrightsell Jr.

Alabama is mopping up in the transfer portal this offseason. Nate Oats and the coaching staff landed its third transfer with Cal State Fullerton transfer Latrell Wrightsell Jr. committing to the Tide.

Cal State Fullerton guard transfer Latrell Wrightsell Jr. announced his commitment to Alabama on Sunday.

Wrightsell Jr. spent the past three seasons with the Titans. As a junior, he was named to the All-Big West First Team. Wrightsell Jr. averaged 16.3 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 2.4 assists per game. Another interesting stat to post out is that he averaged 1.5 steals per game.

Two of the things that Alabama head coach Nate Oats likes his players to do is play aggressive on defense and knock down shots. Wrightsell Jr. can do both and do it consistently.

Last season, he shot 42.4% from the field and 38.3% from beyond-the-arc. He scored double-digits in 29 of the 33 games that he played in a season ago. His ability to be productive on both ends of the floor is invaluable in Oats’ system. He should relish in his role at Alabama next season.

Several other transfers that are poised to do the same are Wichita State transfer Jaykwon Walton and Hofstra transfer Aaron Estrada. Both joined the program this offseason and have a lot of upside, as Wrightsell Jr. does.

Wrightsell Jr. will likely join a backcourt consisting of Mark Sears, Jahvon Quinerly, Rylan Griffen, Davin Cosby Jr. and Aaron Estrada. That could make for one of the best backcourts in the conference next season.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama basketball program and its involvement in the transfer portal.

Alabama MBB reaches out to Cal State Fullerton transfer Latrell Wrightsell Jr.

Cal State Fullerton transfer Latrell Wrightsell Jr. has heard from the Alabama coaching staff. Wrightsell Jr. said that he has spoken with Alabama head coach Nate Oats.

Alabama is one of the many schools that have reached out to Cal State Fullerton transfer Latrell Wrightsell Jr. The Titans’ leading scorer has been a hot commodity in the transfer portal since entering less than a week ago.

Wrightsell Jr. is a native of Omaha, Nebraska. Coming out of high school, he chose Cal State Fullerton over other programs like South Dakota State, North Texas, and Bradley.

In three seasons with the Titans, Wrightsell Jr. has played a lot of meaningful minutes. He has 58 career starts in his college career. His best season likely came this past season as he led the Titans in scoring, assists, and steals.

Wrightsell Jr. averaged 16.3 points per game, 2.4 assists per game, and 1.5 steals per game. His willingness to be active on both ends of the floor is certainly something that stands out.

In an interview with 247Sports’ Brandon Jenkins, Wrightsell Jr, had this to say about the Crimson Tide:

Nate Oats called me. His talking to me, letting me know what he had to offer, and how I would look in their system was pretty big. Our Zoom visit will be about me trying to get out there to see the facilities. That will be the next step moving forward. I really like what he had to say about how I could fit in and make an impact. They were number one in the country this year and they want to go deeper in March Madness.”

It sounds like Wrightsell Jr. will try to at least make a trip to Tuscaloosa before making his decision.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow news surrounding the Alabama basketball prorgam.
