Ravens OT Roger Rosengarten reveals pre-draft meetings with Baltimore

Ravens offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten revealed his pre-draft interactions with the team

The Baltimore Ravens had nine total picks entering the 2024 NFL draft. They stuck and picked at all nine, adding a nice variety of pieces that can help the team win now and develop throughout the next few seasons.

Baltimore brought in Washington offensive lineman Roger Rosengarten. The former Huskies star talked about his pre-draft dealings with the Ravens before being selected and revealed that he checked all that the team was looking for in 10 minutes in a meeting at the Combine.

“Yes. I met with them first at [the] Senior Bowl, kind of briefly with the scouts, and then that progressed on to a Combine visit, and I had a formal meeting with them, and that went super well. I remember, you have the allotted 17 or 20 minutes, or whatever it was. Our meeting ended up going 10 minutes. Coach [John] Harbaugh and the offensive line coach [Joe D’Alessandris] and the rest of the staff really said, ‘Hey man, you check all the boxes. There’s no need to spend all 17 minutes on this.’ I knew from there my meeting went super well with them at the Combine, and then, I didn’t end up doing a [Top] 30 visit, but that’s kind of all the extent was.”

Rosengarten is expected to compete for the vacant right tackle spot left by Morgan Moses after his trade to the New York Jets. While there will be others competing with him, based on the high draft capital used on him, he could have the inside track. However, he will still have to earn his role with a strong training camp/preseason.

The Baltimore Ravens landed some much-needed help at offensive tackle in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Washington right tackle Roger Rosengarten. When speaking with the media after the selection, Rosengarten was asked how it will feel pass-blocking for quarterback Lamar Jackson.

As soon as I heard [it was] Baltimore, that’s the first thing that came to my mind – blocking for Lamar [Jackson],” Rosengarten said. “[He’s] an elite-level quarterback, an MVP-level quarterback. It’s a dream come true. Baltimore is one of those places where it’s been a historic program for such a long time, and just to hear my name called and have everybody on the staff come [on the phone] and congratulate me, it was such a great feeling.”

The Ravens have a vacancy at the right tackle position after trading away reliable veteran Morgan Moses to the New York Jets this offseason. Rosengarten will have the opportunity to compete with third-year offensive tackle Daniel Faalele for the starting job this season. Rosengarten has experience at left tackle as well so he could also serve as a potential fill-in for Ronnie Stanley if the veteran misses time again this year.

John Harbaugh says Roger Rosengarten will compete for starting RT job; can also play other positions

Following Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta, and head coach John Harbaugh spoke with the media. Harbaugh was asked about the team’s second-round pick, Roger Rosengarten, and whether or not he could have a chance to start immediately at right tackle.

Oh, yes, absolutely,” Harbaugh said. “I mean, we drafted [Roger Rosengarten] with that idea – that he’ll compete for that. That’s the idea; [that] all these guys will be competing for playing time and opportunities to start. And in his case, right and … We’re going to look at him everywhere. He can play guard, if we needed him to, and he can play left tackle, if we need him to. We’re just going to roll the offensive line out there and let them compete.

Third-year offensive tackle Daniel Faalele will be Rosengarten’s main competition for the starting right tackle position. The Ravens have openings at both guard spots after losing John Simpson and Kevin Zeitler in free agency. Ben Cleveland and Andrew Vorhees should headline the competition for those spots. The versatile Patrick Mekari has recently served as the primary backup for left tackle Ronnie Stanley, but Rosengarten could compete for that opportunity as well, considering he has prior experience on the left side in college.

Ravens select OL Roger Rosengarten with 62nd overall pick in 2024 NFL draft

Baltimore took a step to address the offensive line, selecting Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten with the 62nd overall

After adding more depth to the defense, Baltimore took a step to address the offensive line, selecting Washington Huskies offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten with the 62nd overall pick in the second round.

An offensive tackle at Washington, Rosengarten didn’t allow any sacks in his 1,158 pass-blocking snaps for the Huskies.

Baltimore could play the experienced offensive tackle at the right tackle spot, and he’s athletic enough to slide down to offensive guard.

Bengals should keep close eye on Mel Kiper’s favorite 2024 NFL draft OT prospect

Mel Kiper’s favorite OT might be the perfect fit for the Bengals.

Most fans know the big names to watch for the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2024 NFL draft.

But this late in the process, experts are more than happy to reveal some of their favorites who might currently fly under the proverbial radar.

Take ESPN’s Mel Kiper, who just listed his favorite prospects at every position in the draft — and his name at offensive tackle is a surprise.

It’s one the Bengals front office — and fans — should probably keep in mind, too: Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten.

Kiper says Rosengarten has gone overshadowed because of teammate Troy Fautanu (who Kiper lists as his favorite guard), but that he could slip into the first round:

Rosengarten might have been a top-10 pick in next year’s draft if he had stayed in school for another season. That’s how highly I think of him. The 6-foot-5 308-pounder started at right tackle for the Huskies over the past two seasons, and he did not allow a single sack on 1,158 pass-blocking plays in that time frame. He locked down the blind side for left-handed quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

This all puts Rosengarten is a really sweet spot for the Bengals. Maybe they agree with Kiper and strike a trade down from No. 18 to secure him later in the opening round while also acquiring more high-value draft picks.

But the other side of that might be a trade up from No. 49 in the second round on Day 2. If Rosengarten slips to the second round, the Bengals have 10 picks and only so many roster spots, anyway. If they value him as long-term option behind Trent Brown, that’s worth a move up on Day 2.

If nothing else, Rosengarten is clearly someone who should be on the mind of Bengals fans as things progress this week.

Broncos host OT Roger Rosengarten on pre-draft visit

The Broncos brought in Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten for a pre-draft visit last week. He could be a mid-round target.

The Denver Broncos brought in Washington offensive lineman Roger Rosengarten for a pre-draft visit last week, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Rosengarten (6-5, 308 pounds) was born and raised in Highlands Ranch and played high school football for Valor Christian. Because he is a local prospect, Rosengarten does not count against the team’s 30-prospect visit limit.

Rosengarten played offensive tackle in college but some draft pundits expect him to transition to guard in the NFL. He spent four years at Washington, starting the last two seasons with the Huskies.

Rosengarten helped Washington reach college football’s national championship last fall and he earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 recognition. He started 25 games at right tackle from 2022-2023.

Opinions are varied on Rosengarten’s draft stock, but most mock drafts have him going off the board in the fourth round.

The 2024 NFL draft will be held in Detroit from April 25-27. We are tracking all of Denver’s pre-draft prospect visits on Broncos Wire.

Commanders to host Washington OT Roger Rosengarten on top 30 visit

Roger Rosengarten was a two-year starter for college football’s best offensive line.

We know the Washington Commanders will be heavily involved in the offensive tackle market during the 2024 NFL draft. While the Commanders will likely select a quarterback second overall, they also have two second-round picks and three third-round picks.

The Commanders hosted offensive tackles Jordan Morgan (Arizona) and Kiran Amegadjie (Yale) on top 30 visits. Morgan could go late in the first round or early second round, while Amegadjie will go sometime on day two.

Now, Washington will host another offensive tackle on a top-30 visit.

According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Commanders will host Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten on a pre-draft visit.

Rosengarten, a 6-foot-5, 308-pound redshirt junior, has started the past two seasons for the Huskies at right tackle. Like Amegadjiem, Rosengarten is expected to be drafted sometime on day two. Once all of the top tackles are gone, how high in the second round will Rosengarten go?

The Huskies won the Joe Moore Award in 2023, which is given annually to college football’s best offensive line.

Former Washington OT Roger Rosengarten scheduled for top-30 visit with Texans

A former Pac-12 champion will soon visit NRG Stadium and the Houston Texans.

Roger Rosengarten is returning to NRG Stadium for the first time since the national championship.

Rosengarten, a two-year starter at Washington, will visit the Houston Texans as part of a top-30 visit, according to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo.

Last season, Rosengarten was an anchor at right tackle for the Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line that claimed its first Pac-12 title in six years. During his two seasons in Seattle, the 6-foot-6 lineman allowed just five quarterbacks and 27 hurries.

Rosengarten did not allow a sack in two years, factoring into back-to-back Heisman-caliber seasons from potential first-round pick Michael Penix Jr.

An expected mid-round selection, Rosengarten impressed last month at the NFL combine in Indianapolis. He posted the fastest 40-time among offensive linemen at 4.92 seconds and finished top 20 in the 20-yard shuttle (4.60) and the broad jump (9-foot-2).

Starting tackle isn’t a concern for Houston with the return of All-Pro Laremy Tunsil and a healthy Tytus Howard. Depth, however, remains a concern following George Fant and Josh Jones’ departure this offseason.

While Rosengarten only played right tackle at Washington, that might mean little since Houston brought back swing tackle Charlie Heck on a one-year deal. Instead of having both tackles learn each spot, Heck would only replace Tunsil while Rosengarten takes on reps behind Howard.

The Texans own nine picks in the draft starting April 25, including three in the second and third rounds.

49ers flirt with disaster in Mel Kiper Jr. mock draft

The #49ers flirt with disaster in Mel Kiper’s latest mock draft.

The 49ers are in a tough spot in this year’s draft. They’ll enter the draft with offensive tackle atop their list of needs, and they’ll be picking at No. 31 overall where the best of the sizable crop of strong offensive tackle prospects will likely be gone. A trade up may be difficult to execute as well given how much demand there’ll be for the best of this year’s OT class.

One route they could take if a trade isn’t available is trying to find a gem with a couple of high-upside Day 2 and 3 selections. They could also reach for a player at No. 31 overall, which is what they do in Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock draft. The result in this situation could be disastrous.

Kiper, as is typical, has the best OT prospects going ahead of the 49ers’ slot at the end of the first round. There are a couple of OTs projected to go late in the first or early in the second round who have been mocked to San Francisco. A couple defenders have been sent to them as well. Instead of doing that, Kiper sends them Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten.

There’s the potential that Rosengarten develops into a starting-caliber tackle. He’s coming off a couple good years as a starter where he shined more as a pass blocker than a run blocker. There’s definitely some necessary development though.

Rosengartner doesn’t have great size at 6-5, 308 pounds. He’s also not a particularly good athlete. The 49ers in Kyle Shanahan’s system need their offensive tackles to be effective run blockers who can get out and move. That doesn’t show up a ton for Rosengartner in college and his athletic profile doesn’t necessarily indicate there’s enough upside for him to develop into a starter in this particular offense.

Taking an OT who may not even start Year 1 would be a tough pill for the 49ers to swallow given the size of their need at that spot. A complete whiff where Rosengartner never becomes more than a reserve offensive lineman would be a disaster for a San Francisco club that wants to extend its Super Bowl window.

The 49ers need an upgrade at RT this year, and ideally would have that player credibly flip to the left side when Trent Williams eventually retires. Rosengartner, as a prospect, doesn’t appear to fit that mold. Taking him on Day 2 would be palatable, but given the 49ers’ struggles with finding talent in Round 1 and a potential exodus of top-end talent in the coming years, the team needs to nail its first-round pick this year.

Finding a good player at any position is a far bigger priority than reaching for an OT just to check that box.
