10 Bears players to watch during Saturday’s preseason finale vs. Titans

Heading into the final week of preseason, there are some roster spots still up for grabs. Here are some Bears we’ll be watching vs. Titans.

The preseason comes to a close this weekend for the Chicago Bears as they travel south to take on the Tennessee Titans. As of now, the game is still scheduled to take place, as the Titans are currently experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak. At least nine individuals have tested positive for the virus, including head coach Mike Vrabel.

Assuming the game proceeds as planned, the Bears have quite a few players worth watching as they prepare for their final big audition to make the 53-man roster. Here are 10 players I’m keeping my eye on this Saturday night.

6 takeaways from the Bears’ final training camp practice

From Rodney Adams’ path to the roster to potential rotation at left tackle, here’s what we learned from the Bears’ final camp practice.

The Chicago Bears returned to the practice field Thursday for their final training camp practice at Halas Hall ahead of Saturday’s preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans.

While their final padded practice was half speed, there was plenty to digest from what head coach Matt Nagy, linebacker Danny Trevathan and tight ends Cole Kmet and Jimmy Graham had to say.

Following Thursday’s practice, here’s a look at what we learned from Day 21 of training camp:

6 takeaways from Bears’ preseason loss to the Bills

From Justin Fields earning reps with starters to concerns on defense and special teams, here’s our takeaways from the Bears’ loss to Bills.

For much of Saturday afternoon, the Chicago Bears played uninspiring football in their 41-15 preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills. The starting offense struggled to get anything going, sans one big play from quarterback Andy Dalton. Meanwhile, Bills quarterback Mitchell Trubisky got the revenge he was seeking against the Bears defense, putting on a show for his former team as he got the start for Buffalo.

The second half was better for both sides of the ball as rookie quarterback Justin Fields looked great in sports with his arm and his legs, but also struggled due to the lack of protection on the offensive line. The defense, meanwhile, was able to create a few turnovers against the Buffalo reserves after getting gashed in the first half.

All in all, though, it wasn’t a pretty day on the lakefront and with just one preseason game left, the Bears have a lot of questions to answer in a short amount of time. Here are my takeaways from Saturday’s preseason game.

Bears’ Rodney Adams made strong impression vs. Bills

Rodney Adams had the play of the game vs. Bills and continues to impress, which is why he’s Bears Wire’s Player of the Game.

The Chicago Bears faced off against the Buffalo Bills in their second preseason game, but it wasn’t an overall encouraging performance in a 41-15 blowout on Saturday at Soldier Field. But there were a few players who stood out in a good way.

Our Bears player of the game is wide receiver Rodney Adams, who for the second consecutive week has come down with an impressive catch that helped move the chains.

For the second straight week, Adams led the Bears in receiving. He had 89 yards on three receptions, which included this beauty of a catch-and-run for a 73-yard touchdown from Andy Dalton.

Adams has made a strong case for a roster spot. But with final roster cuts just over a week away, Adams is trying not to think about it.

“I mean, I don’t want to,” he said. “But I’m trying to get 100% better every single day. I’m not thinking about 10 days ahead. What’s the challenge tomorrow? What’s the challenge the next day ? I’m not thinking 10 days ahead, I’m thinking, ‘What’s going to happen tomorrow?’”

If Adams can stack a third straight solid preseason game, it’ll be hard to argue against not giving him a spot on this team.

Bears’ Rodney Adams honored his newborn daughter with touchdown celebration vs. Bills

It’s been an eventful 24 hours for Bears WR Rodney Adams, who hauled in a 73-yard touchdown just hours after the birth of his daughter.

It’s been quite an eventful 24 hours for Bears wide receiver Rodney Adams. Not only did he haul in an impressive 73-yard touchdown against the Bills, but it comes right on the heels of the birth of his daughter.

Adams caught a deep ball from quarterback Andy Dalton — separating himself from his defender — and sprinted to the end zone, where he then rocked the football like a baby.

The night before, Adams was celebrating the birth of his daughter Brexleigh Michelle, who was born on Friday. Adams spent the night on the couch in her hospital room for about five hours before he drove directly to Soldier Field for Saturday’s game.

“He just had a baby and made that play,” Dalton said. “I think he rocked the baby afterward. That was pretty good.”

Adams has made a name for himself in Chicago’s wide receiver competition, where he’s contending for a roster spot. With final roster cuts just over a week away, Adams is trying not to think about it.

Following impressive preseason outings against the Dolphins and Bills — on top of being a standout name in practice — Adams has a good chance to earn  a roster spot.

Instant analysis of Bears’ 41-15 preseason loss vs. Bills

From Andy Dalton vs. Justin Fields to Rodney Adams’ impressive day, we’re breaking down the Bears’ 41-15 loss to the Bills.

The Chicago Bears returned to Soldier Field for their second preseason game Saturday, where they welcomed the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately for Chicago, it was a 41-15 beatdown by Buffalo, led by former Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who led the Bills to 34 first-half points.

Following a brief appearance in last week’s preseason opener, the Bears’ starting offense saw an entire half of action. For the first quarter, it was more of the same, as Chicago opened the game with a pair of three-and-outs. A Damien Williams fumble on the third series stalled the momentum Andy Dalton and co. had been building.

No doubt the highlight for the first-team offense was a 73-yard touchdown from Dalton to wide receiver Rodney Adams, who grabbed the ball over a defender and sprinted into the end zone. Adams once again led all receivers with 89 yards on three receptions.

Adams continues to impress, as he’s made plays throughout training camp and in last week’s preseason opener against the Dolphins, where he had an impressive catch from Justin Fields. With the competition at wide receiver, Adams is making a strong case for one of those two roster spots.

Fields played the entire second half, where he used his mobility to evade Buffalo’s pass rush and make something out of nothing on a few occasions with the struggles behind the second-team offensive line and with some drops by receivers.

Fields finished 9-of-19 for 80 yards and had four rushes for 46 yards, including an impressive 16-yard run. Fields’ best throw was a 32-yard dime to tight end Jesse James, who made a diving grab.

There was a scary moment in the fourth quarter when Fields took a brutal helmet-to-helmet hit from Bills linebacker Andre Smith, which sent Fields’ helmet flying off as he fell to the turf. Fields got up and shook it off like it was nothing, but it was still a moment that left Bears fans breathless for a few seconds.

The game also marked Trubisky’s return to Soldier Field, where he got the start for Buffalo. Trubisky had his way against his former team, completing 20-of-28 passes for 221 yards with one touchdown for a 106.4 passer rating.

This game also highlighted some of the biggest concerns heading into the season, including a porous offensive line, tackling issues and special teams struggles in coverage.

While Fields’ stat line wasn’t as impressive as last week’s opener, his performance continues to put pressure on Matt Nagy and his plan to run with Dalton as the starter. At the very least, Fields deserves some reps with the first-team, something Nagy said was on the way.

WATCH: Bears’ Rodney Adams makes a highlight grab and sprints for a touchdown

Another week, another highlight play from Bears WR Rodney Adams over a defender’s head.

Another week, another highlight play from Chicago Bears wide receiver Rodney Adams over a defender’s head. This time, however, he was able to take it to the house and give the Bears their first score of the day.

Midway through the second quarter, the Bears offense finally came alive after doing nothing of note all game. On second down, quarterback Andy Dalton dropped back and fired his longest pass attempt of the preseason. He found Adams streaking on the right side of the field, where the receiver hauled in the catch over cornerback Siran Neal, kept his feet, and dashed to the endzone for the 73-yard score.

Adams had a similar catch last week against the Dolphins and has flashed for the Bears in camp. The veteran receiver has spent time with the Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts, playing in just one game since coming into the league in 2017.

The Bears are currently down 28-6 against the Bills with the first half winding down.

Bears roster bubble: Which players helped their cause in Week 1

Following the Bears’ preseason debut, here’s a look at which roster-bubble players helped their cause with a strong outing.

The Chicago Bears opened up the preseason with a 20-13 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, which featured the debut of rookie quarterback Justin Fields. While Fields is guaranteed to make the 53-man roster, there are plenty of players who are competing to make the cut.

With the first roster cuts set for Tuesday — where GM Ryan Pace will have to trim the roster from 90 to 85 — there were a handful of players who helped their chances of competing for a spot on the 53-man roster with strong preseason outings against the Dolphins.

Following Chicago’s preseason opener, here’s a look at which roster-bubble players helped their cause in Week 1.

Roster Moves: Bears sign 10 players to reserve/future contracts

The Bears inked 10 players that finished the season on their practice squad to reserve/future contracts on Monday.

The Chicago Bears wrapped up their 2020 season with a wild-card loss to the New Orleans Saints, and now Chicago faces an offseason with a ton of questions.

The Bears signed 10 players that finished the season on their practice squad to reserve/future contracts on Monday.

The Bears are signing former Vikings WR Rodney Adams

The Bears already have a crowded wide receivers room, but that isn’t stopping them from adding some more speed to the roster.

The Chicago Bears already have a crowded wide receivers room, but that isn’t stopping them from adding some more speed to the roster.

The Bears are signing former Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts wideout Rodney Adams, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Adams was reinstated earlier this year after he retired a couple of years ago.

Adams was drafted by the Vikings in the fifth-round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Adams spent time on Minnesota’s active roster and practice squad as a rookie, but he never saw regular-season game action.

He signed a reserve/future contract with the Colts in February 2018 and was placed on the reserve/retired list just a couple months later. After being reinstated from that list in late January 2020, Adams was waived by the Colts in August.
