Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

After winning two of the first three games of the series, the Colorado Rockies (46-59) hope to pick up a road series win over the San Diego Padres (60-47) Sunday. First pitch is at 4:10 p.m. ET at Petco Park. Let’s analyze the lines around the Rockies vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Rockies LHP Austin Gomber (8-5, 3.69 ERA) makes his 18th start of the year. He has a 1.05 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 through 90 1/3 IP.

  • He is facing the Padres for the fourth time this season. He is 1-0 with an ERA of 0.47 through 19 1/3 innings against them.
  • He won each of his last five decisions.

Padres RHP Reiss Knehr (0-0, 4.91 ERA) makes his second-ever start in the majors. He walked 4 and struck out 3 with 2 earned runs allowed through 3 2/3 innings against the Rockies in his MLB debut.

  • His major league debut was July 9 against the Rockies. He lasted only 3 2/3 innings but the Padres won 4-2.
  • He was 6-2 with a 3.66 ERA over 13 starts with Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso.

Prediction

Padres 5, Rockies 3

Money line (ML)

The Rockies, with two wins in a row this series over the Padres, no longer have the worst road record in the majors, although they are tied for the fewest road wins with 13. It is the second time all season they have won two consecutive road games. Their only road series win was over the Padres just before the All-Star break.

Despite two losses in a row at Petco Park, the Padres have the second-most home victories this season. While Knehr might not go deep into the game, their bullpen has an MLB-best 2.94 ERA. They have not lost three straight home games since being swept by the Milwaukee Brewers in April.

Take the PADRES (-155).

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Rockies have improved to 23-29 ATS on the road having gone 7-2 ATS on their current road trip.

The Padres are only 27-30 ATS at home this season and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games.

Considering the season-long performance of both teams goes against the most recent trends, it is bound to correct itself.

Take the PADRES -1.5 (+130).

Over/Under (O/U)

Over 52% of games at Petco Park this season went Over the projected total.

Four of the Rockies’ nine games on this road trip had 9 or more runs scored and four of the Padres’ last 11 games have had a total of 9-plus runs.

Only four of the 15 games this season between the two teams had 9 or more runs.

Take UNDER 8.5 (+100).

Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

After splitting the first two games of their series, the Colorado Rockies (45-59) and San Diego Padres (60-46) play the third game of their four-game series Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. ET at Petco Park. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP German Marquez is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 8-8 with a 3.54 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 through 124 2/3 IP spanning 21 starts.

Marquez took the loss in each of his last two starts while allowing a total of 7 earned runs. He pitched seven scoreless innings in a 3-0 Rockies win over the Padres July 10.

RHP Yu Darvish is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 7-5 with a 3.27 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9 over 115 2/3 IP spanning 20 starts.

This will be his fourth start of the year against the Rockies. He is 1-0 against them with an ERA of 2.25 over 16 innings. He has struggled more of late, losing three straight decisions and posting an ERA of 7.32 over his last four starts.

  • Over/Under: 7 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Padres 5, Rockies 4

Money line (ML)

The Rockies picked up their 12th road win of the year Friday but they still have the worst road record in the league. They have, though, won three of their last five games against the Padres in San Diego.

They took two of three in San Diego just before the All-Star break in the only road series this season in which Colorado won more than one game.

Only the Chicago White Sox have more home wins than the Padres’ 35 this season. They are 5-6 over their last 11 homes games but Darvish has a 2021 home ERA of 2.79.

Take the PADRES (-200).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Rockies are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games, although they are 22-29 ATS on the road this season.

The Padres are only 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games and 27-29 ATS at home. Three of the last four wins for the Padres with Darvish on the mound were by one run.

I like the Padres to win, but like Colorado for the cover. Take the ROCKIES +1.5 (-135).

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total for tonight is low, especially considering the recent struggles of the two starting pitchers. That said, four of the last five games between the Rockies and Padres finished with totals under seven runs.

Four of the Rockies’ last five games and 10 of their last 13 finished with more than 7 total runs.

Four of the last five for the Padres had a total of 7 or more runs.

Take OVER 7 (-115).

Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (53-39) host the Colorado Rockies (39-51) for the finale of their three-game series Sunday at Petco Park. First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

This is the rubber match since Colorado evened the series with a 3-0 win Saturday. Rockies All-Star starting RHP German Márquez pitched a gem allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk with 9 strikeouts across 7 scoreless innings.

Season series: Padres lead 6-5.

RHP Jon Gray is on the hill for the Rockies. Gray is 5-6 with a 3.94 ERA (80 IP, 35 ER), 1.24 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 8.2 K/9 across 15 starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision with 6 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB and 8 K in Colorado’s 3-2 loss at the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday.
  • Gray is 0-2 against San Diego this season with a 3.97 ERA (11 1/3 IP, 5 ER), 12 H, 4 BB and 7 K in two starts.
  • vs. Padres on the current roster: 164 at-bats with a .280/.328/.506 slash line, 38/9 K/BB, 8 HR and 28 RBIs.

LHP Ryan Weathers is San Diego’s projected starter. Weathers is 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA (56 2/3 IP, 19 ER), 1.13 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 6.5 K/9 over 10 starts and six relief appearances.

  • Last outing: Win, 7-4, with 5 1/3 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 0 BB and 2 K vs. the Washington Nationals Tuesday.
  • 2021 home splits: 2-1 with a 3.41 ERA (29 IP, 11 ER), 1.17 WHIP and 2.7 K/BB rate in five starts and three bullpen outings.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Rockies +1.5 (-125) | Padres -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Padres 4, Rockies 3

Money line (ML)

PASS with a slight “lean” toward Colorado’s First 5 Innings money line because the Rockies have the better starter in this game but I prefer to play it safe and take Colorado’s First 5 Innings run line at a good price point.

What’s holding me back from sprinkling on the underdog’s money line here is the Rockies’ terrible hitting splits on the road and against left-handed pitching.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

“LEAN” to the ROCKIES +0.5 (+100) FIRST 5 INNINGS for a half unit because Weathers grades in the 18th percentile or worse in expected wOBA, expected slugging percentage, hard-hit rate, exit velocity, chase rate, whiff rate and K%.

The reason why we are backing Colorado on the First 5 Innings line instead of the full game is that the Rockies’ bullpen is bottom 10 in xFIP, K-BB% and home run per nine-inning rate while San Diego’s is top 10 in each of those categories.

Over/Under (O/U)

GIMME the UNDER 8.5 (-115) as my favorite play in Rockies-Padres because there’s been “sharp” line movement towards the under as this game opened with a flat-9 total before being steamed down to the current number.

Furthermore, the Under has cashed in five of the last seven Rockies-Padres meetings and Colorado has scored by far the fewest runs on the road this season.

Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rockies (38-51) face the San Diego Padres (53-38) in the second of three games in San Diego. The Padres won the opener 4-2 Friday night. Saturday night, the first pitch is set for 10:10 p.m. ET at Petco Park. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP German Marquez is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 7-6 with a 3.59 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 105 1/3 IP over 18 starts.

The Rockies have won his last four starts, including one on the road. He has an ERA of 0.93 over 29 innings in those four starts.

RHP Joe Musgrove is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 5-6 with a 2.97 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 10.5 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 in 94 IP over 16 starts and one game in relief.

He has allowed five earned runs in each of his last two starts for an ERA of 10.00 over nine innings.

  • Money line: Rockies +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Padres -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rockies +1.5 (-145) | Padres -1.5 (+120)
  • Over/Under: 7 (O: -125 | U: +105)

Prediction

Rockies 4, Padres 2

Money line (ML)

Considering the Rockies are 7-34 on the road this season, they are never a good bet on the money line when they are not at Coors Field.

Colorado has one win on this road trip and has not won more than one game in any previous road trip since they won two of seven on the road between April 26-May 2. However, Marquez has been brilliant in his last four starts.

The Padres’ 33 home wins are the most in the major leagues. They have won 12 of their last 15 home games. But Musgrove has struggled in his last two starts.

If there is any road game to take the Rockies for some potential value, tonight is that game.

Take the ROCKIES (+145).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

It is true that the Rockies also have the lowest road cover percentage in the majors at 34.2%. They have covered the spread in only two of their last seven games.

The Padres are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 games and 25-25 ATS at home.

But as we expect this to be an outright win for the Rockies, if you aren’t confident enough to take them on the money line, you have an extra run-and-a-half of insurance with this bet.

Take the ROCKIES +1.5 (-145).

Over/Under (O/U)

The Rockies only average 2.8 runs per game on the road and bat .201, so even with Musgrove’s latest struggles, you can’t expect them to produce much.

But with how Marquez has been pitching, it will be tough for the Padres to muster much offense.

Take UNDER 7 (+105).

Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rockies (15-28) and San Diego Padres (26-17) play the finale of a three-game set Wednesday at Petco Park with a 4:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 2-1 with a 4.79 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 4.3 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 over 35 2/3 IP through 6 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Gonzalez is coming off his best outing of the season, allowing just four hits and a walk with two strikeouts in seven scoreless innings for a win over the Cincinnati Reds last Thursday. He hadn’t won since his first start against the Los Angeles Dodgers April 1.

RHP Joe Musgrove is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 3-4 with a 2.86 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 12.1 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 over 44 IP across 8 starts.

Musgrove will be making his first appearance of the season against the Rockies. He won last time out against the St. Louis Cardinals Friday, allowing just one run and five hits with four walks over five innings for his first win since April 9, a no-hitter in Texas.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Rockies +1.5 (+105) | Padres -1.5 (-125)
  • Over/Under: 7.5 (Over -110 | Under -110)

Prediction

Padres 5, Rockies 2

Money line (ML)

The Padres (-275) will cost you nearly three times your potential return, and that’s just not an attractive play. Gonzalez was sharp last time out, and that’s a concern for the home side.

AVOID.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PADRES -1.5 (-125) is a better play on the run line. They should be able to push past the struggling Rockies +1.5 (+105) by at least two runs. During their five-game win streak they have outscored the opposition 32-11, although two of the wins are just by one run.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 7.5 (-110) was the play Tuesday night, slapping the brakes on a four-game Over run. We should get some decent pitching in this one as both hurlers did a good job last time out. The Under is 3-2 in the first five meetings this season, too.

Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rockies (15-27) and San Diego Padres (25-17) play the second game of a three-game set Tuesday at Petco Park with a 10:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Austin Gomber is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 2-4 with a 5.49 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 and 4.8 BB/9 over 39 1/3 IP through 8 starts.

Gomber rebounded from a beating at the St. Louis Cardinals May 7, allowing one unearned run, four hits and a walk with six strikeouts across 5 1/3 innings at Coors Field against the Padres Wednesday in a no-decision.

LHP Blake Snell is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 1-0 with a 4.19 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 12.8 K/9 and 6.3 BB/9 over 34 1/3 IP across 8 starts.

Snell was on the bump opposite Gomber in Denver Wednesday, and he lasted just four innings with two earned runs, five hits and three walks allowed in a no-decision. He hasn’t had a quality start in his eight appearances this season.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Rockies +1.5 (-125) | Padres -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 7 (Over -105 | Under -115)

Prediction

Padres 6, Rockies 4

Money line (ML)

The Padres (-200) will force you to risk two times your potential return, and that’s a little on the expensive side, especially since Snell has really struggled so far.

AVOID.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PADRES -1.5 (+105) is worth a roll of the dice, and they’re much less risky at this price point. Snell hasn’t lasted longer than 5 2/3 innings in any of his eight starts to date. But Gomber has struggled at times, too, and San Diego’s offense should be just fine against the left-hander in this one. Plus, the Padres are 4-1 across their past five at home vs. lefties.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 7 (-105) is my favorite play on the board, and you should hammer it hard. The Over is 12-3 in Colorado’s past 15 within the division, and its staff was blasted for seven runs in Monday’s opener. The Over is also 6-1 in Colorado’s past seven vs. left-handers.

The Padres took care of the Over (6.5) all on their own Monday, though barely, and the Over is now 4-for-4 across their past four outings. The Over is also 4-0 in their previous four as home favorites.

Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rockies (15-26) and San Diego Padres (24-17) kick off a three-game set Monday at Petco Park with a 10:10 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Jon Gray is the projected starting pitcher for the Rockies. He is 4-3 with a 2.93 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 8.6 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 over 46 IP through 8 starts.

Gray allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts across 5 2/3 innings in a loss against the Padres at Coors Field last time out Wednesday.

RHP Yu Darvish is the projected starting pitcher for the Padres. He is 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 11.1 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 over 47 2/3 IP across 8 starts.

Darvish opposed Gray on Wednesday in Denver, allowing one unearned run, two hits and a walk over four innings in a no-decision. He is winless in two starts in May.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Rockies +1.5 (-135) | Padres -1.5 (+110)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (Over -110 | Under -110)

Prediction

Padres 4, Rockies 2

Money line (ML)

The Padres (-200) will cost you a pretty penny if you plan to back the home side. San Diego, which is coming off a sweep of the Cardinals, is a better play on the run line.

AVOID.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PADRES -1.5 (+110) are worth playing lightly on the run line, as this should be a well-pitched game. Darvish was hard on the Rockies last time out in Denver, and he should be even more effective at sea level.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is the UNDER 6.5 (-110), as we have two starting pitchers capable of racking up plenty of donuts.

Gray and Darvish matched up Wednesday in Denver, and the Padres came away with a 5-3 win as the Over barely cashed. At sea level, look for less offense.
